25.01.2022 Congratulations to our Graduands and Valedicts who were recognised and presented with their certificates and gifts at the 2020 Women’s College Valedictory Dinner last Thursday evening. Parents of Third-Year Valedicts travelled from Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Toowoomba, Goondiwindi and Canberra, to celebrate this special occasion with their daughters. The dinner entailed weeks of detailed event planning with set-up across four venues in the College adhering to COVID-Safe conditi...ons, so that all students could attend. 24.01.2022 Vale Maureen Aitken We are saddened to announce that Past Principal of the Womens College, Dr Maureen Aitken (1991-2008) passed away on Thursday 9 July. Dr Aitken had a very significant influence in the life of Womens College, is the second- longest serving Principal and also was awarded a Fellow of the College in 2010. Details regarding a celebration of life to recognise Dr Aitkens outstanding service to the Womens College will be communicated to our College community shortly. 22.01.2022 The Womens College is pleased to announce the appointment of Emeritus Professor Carol Dickenson AM, as the new College Council President. Carol joined the College Council earlier this year and then was elected as President when Dr Sallyanne Atkinson AO retired from the Council in March. Recently, Carol retired as Provost from QUT where she also chaired the Academic Board and was a member of the QUT Council. Her experience in higher education has direct application to the governance of Womens College provided through the Council.

21.01.2022 The Semester 2 ICC Sporting competition is underway and The Womens College is off to a great start. Congratulations to our Netball team who won their first game against Emmanuel College on Wednesday evening.

21.01.2022 The inaugural Women’s Wooza Award, an initiative of the 2020 Student Club Executive, was introduced this year and officially presented at the recent Valedictory Dinner. Congratulations to Liezel Viljoen who was announced as the 2020 winner of this prestigious award. The award acknowledges a Wooza who embodies the core values of Leadership, Respect, Care, Confidence and Excellence and is a generous contributor to College life. Through her contribution she symbolises that at Women’s there are no stereotypes about what women should do, but there are unlimited expectations about what women can do.



20.01.2022 Congratulations to third-year students, Ella Cooper and Risa Utama, who were nominated by The Women’s College and announced as finalists in the Greater Women in Business Awards of Australia - Aspiring Young Business Women’s category last Friday. The College also congratulates 2020 Communications Representative, Hannah Cook, for being announced as a finalist in her submission for the JB Fairfax Rural Journalism and Communications Scholarship.

18.01.2022 Vale Dorothy Marsden We are saddened to share the news that our oldest alumna Dorothy Marsden (1937-1939) and Student Club President of The Womens College passed away on 19 June aged 101 Years. Dorothy was educated at Maryborough Girls Grammar School before studying for a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours and graduating from UQ in 1940.... Dorothy was an active alumna, a long-standing attendee of both the College Birthday (Garden) Party and annual Standing Committee Luncheon. In fact, she rarely missed any College function. We look forward to celebrating Dorothys life at our annual Standing Committee Luncheon on Friday 2 October.

15.01.2022 Week 2 of ICC Sport ended on a high note with Womens College taking away wins in Netball, AFL and Soccer with only a narrow defeat in Basketball. Thank you to our supporters as well as Sports Convenor, Phoebe Cuskelly for all her efforts. Check out some highlights from the AFL game!

13.01.2022 Womens College first-year resident, Emma Serisier, is the winner of the 2020 Australian Stockholm Junior Water Prize and was recently announced in the top 12 international finalists. The competition challenges young people to think big and take a fresh look at local and global water problems. Emmas study looked at potential biowaste adsorbents to decrease the phosphate run-off into natural waterways from agricultural fertilisers and animal manures.... Identifying eggshell waste as an effective adsorbent for phosphate, Emma developed a mathematical model and website for farmers to calculate cost savings and application rates of eggshell on their soils. This free and accessible tool will help farmers counteract their environmental footprint. Emma has been a passionate advocate for STEM and has won many awards, including the recent 2020 Coffs Harbour Young Citizen of the Year. In 2019, she received a third-place award in the International Science and Engineering Fair and also won the New South Wales Rural Young Scientist of the Year.

12.01.2022 A great weekend of sport was enjoyed by our Womens College girls soccer team with two out of three impressive wins. Congratulations girls and also to the wonderful supporters.

12.01.2022 We were honoured to have Captain Louise Pole as a guest speaker at our Formal Dinner last night. A QantasLink Q400 pilot, Captain Pole is the first woman in Australia to lead the Australian Federation of Air Pilots in its 80-year history. She spoke about her career achievements in a male-dominated industry and shared some leadership advice with our students. Charlotte Cowan, one of our second-year residents studying aviation at Griffith University as well as other interested students had an opportunity to meet Captain Pole in person after the Formal Dinner.

12.01.2022 This month, The Womens College are partnering with One Girl for their annual Do it in a Dress campaign to raise funds and awareness for the education of girls in Sierra Leone and Uganda. Youll see our residents of the College wearing school dresses to promote their goal of raising $15,000 (almost achieved target) to provide a girl on the other side of the world with basic supplies like uniforms and school books. 12.01.2022 End of Year Celebrations | The Women's College held its Cultural Formal Dinner on 8 October with the College’s Band, Dirt Bucket, providing the entertainment for the event and Cultural Convenor, Ellie Ferguson, performing her special presentation in song. Awards were presented to the 2020 Cultural Convenors, as well as recipients of the Half Blue and Full Blue Cultural Awards. Lara Miller was this year's Cultural Woman of the Year Award winner and Cassidy Thomson was awarded ...the Runner-Up. Congratulations to all students for their dedication to the ICC Cultural pursuits.

Professor Terry AO is well known to our community, having worked at UQ for over 24 years. 10.01.2022 A special morning tea was held this morning to congratulate the 2021 Women's College Student Leadership Team on their new positions. Head of College & CEO, Flo Kearney, spoke about the importance of student leaders and management working together as a strong team. The new student leaders had the opportunity to meet Council President, Emeritus Professor Carol Dickenson AM, the College's Senior Management Team and Coordinator of Student Life.

09.01.2022 The ICC One-Act Play competition was held on Monday and Tuesday evening this week at the Schonell Theatre under COVID-Safe conditions. The Womens College performed the comedy Ten Ways to Survive Life in Quarantine which was adapted for an Australian audience with an all-female cast of 11. The play was convened and directed by multi-talented third-year resident, Cassidy Thomson, who also was a cast member.... Cassidy said that the play was able to bring light-heartedness and humour to the stressful time that we have experienced in the recent months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Congratulations to our wonderful cast members and the three backstage crew who brought this relevant play to life.

09.01.2022 Last night, The Women’s College held its 2020 Valedictory Dinner which was the finale of many significant end-of-year celebrations for our students. These special celebratory occasions will be featured in an upcoming series. The first of these events was the Thanksgiving-themed Community Formal Dinner which was held on 24 September. Sponsorship & Fundraising Convenor, Chloe Pearce, presented a series of Community Awards to the Recycling and Community Committees and the Do it... in a Dress Ambassadors for 2020. In her presentation, Chloe asked students to think about and share what you’re thankful about. She shared I’m thankful that Women’s isn’t just a place to live. It’s a place in which to grow, make mistakes, and learn about yourself, and others and the world. It’s a place to widen your perspectives and share days with people who are exciting and smart and important and different.

05.01.2022 In our final feature of end-of-year celebrations, we present the 2020 Sports Dinner which was held on Wednesday 14 October. Sport Convenor, Phoebe Cuskelly, presented a series of certificates to the sports convenors and coaches for their efforts in managing teams throughout the season. She also presented awards to students for most improved and most valuable player in respective sports and to recipients of the annual Half Blue and Full Blue Sport Awards announced. 02.01.2022 The ICC Sporting Competition continued last night with our first basketball game for the season against Cromwell College. Our girls didnt come away with a win but our cheer squad supported them all the way. A great team effort, Woozas! The best of luck to our soccer players for this weekends games.
