23.01.2022 ORIGINAL POST: @sar.ra__ Whilst we navigate this conversation that is happening on a global scale. Remember that this conversation is happening because of division and trauma exists. Without trauma, there’d be no division and there would be no need to protest, no need to rise up and no need to preach for equity and equally on our own soil. So in these conversations, let’s stop saying ‘yes, but’. We’ve heard enough of that. Yes but @mrkrudd said Sorry so move on, Yes but you ...blacks burnt my car, Yes But America is worse, Yes but Australia Day is about celebrating being a citizen, Yes but Americans aren’t fighting for the history to be acknowledged, they are fighting to live. Let me take the time to say that if you acknowledged our history in Australia you will see that this is intrinsically linked to lives lost. You will know that due to introduced addiction, disease and trauma our lifespan is on average 10 years less than our fellow Australians. We have died and we are still dying along with our languages and sacred sites. Our hurt is valid and it’s a huge part of Australia’s DNA. You have just chosen to sit on your thrown of privilege and benefit from our oppression. This image from my collaboration with @senatorbriggs and @kateemoon for our book, Our Home, Our Heartbeat highlighting that we are and have always been here and we need to see ourselves reflected. What good is @mrkrudd apologizing if our children are still being taken, if we are still dying in custody and what good is it if @scottmorrisonmp is still publicly denying that racism exists in Australia. Rise our voices up, we’ve innovated for over 65000 years, together we can reshape Australia in a more equitable way Probably less bushfires too but that’s for another time. #blacklivesmatter #firstnationslivesmatter #aboriginalrights #aboriginalartist #aboriginalaustralia #activist See more

22.01.2022 Australia isn’t exempt from systemic racism. It is skilfully hidden sometimes which adds to its extreme danger. Type any of these into google to find the funding page and donate what you can, when you can

19.01.2022 ORIGINAL POST: @jessicawilson.msrd (via Instagram) Social justice conversations consistently center white people’s narratives and make them feel like the good white person or the woke white person. A lot of the content is copied and reposted from Black and Brown creators. The language and offerings are often appropriated from the lived experiences of Black and Brown folks, and is then used to make a profit and increase their social capital. The Black and Brown creators go... without credit and payment, and are pushed further into the margins of social justice work as white audiences continue to center themselves. Look at your favorite white social media content creators, they most likely have thousands/millions of followers and endorsements. Meanwhile accounts of Black and Brown people are being policed, reported, and targeted by trolls while their work is stolen and repackaged by these top names on social media. It is past time to center the voices and narratives of Black and Brown people. It is time that Black and Brown people get paid for our emotional labor and given due credit for our content. We need to turn down the volume on those who are profiting from our experiences and start listening to marginalized folks. We can’t let privileged folks continue to expand their social capital and profits while oppressing others. We challenge you to Amplify Melanated Voices this week, and silence the white narrative XO will be participating this week

15.01.2022 ORIGINAL POST: @_enterthedragon_ Today there are over 250+ distinctive and unique Aboriginal tribes/clans and nations, (not including language groups)- across our continent of Oceania. We often forget just how big Australia is and with that, the complexity of the cultures that have always lived within it. We can very easily understand the different cultural boundaries/histories/languages/politics in Europe - but we have such a hard time prescribing that same complexity to Fi...rst Nations mob here. You would never suggest that someone from eg. Italy had the same experiences as someone from eg. UK, so why do we always label and generalise all Aboriginal people together. Us mob fight for each other and we always will - but white Australians have to start seeing us as the multifaceted peoples who live throughout our continent, therefore understanding we are not the same interchangeable, simple group who are in constant agreement. Understand our complexity - as you would in Europe. (Excerpt from my latest YouTube vid!) #youtube See more

13.01.2022 ORIGINAL POSTER: @ihartericka (via Instagram) Ok now that I have your attention, I’m seeing lots of folks share Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera protest photos as today is the beginning of pride month, well let me remind you that the NYPD only reopened Marsha P Johnson’s case because of Black queer and trans activists demanding it be reopened and investigated almost a decade later. They still have not found (doubt they are even investigating) who murdered her. Sylvia Rive...ra died homeless. Black queer and trans lives have consistently been discarded, our deaths covered up while being misgendered in the process. If you are queer, trans or sharing quotes or photos of Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, remember that they didn’t get justice and it’s no different today. Tony McDade- The name of the police officer(s) that murdered him have STILL NOT been released. Keep calling the police department in Tallahassee and demand they release this information: 850-410-7000 Nina Pop- murderer has been arrested - keep your eye on the case. As my good friend @saifaemerges said, there is no revolution without Black queer and trans folks so if you only perked up to our existence in June- you have contributed to our erasure. by @melodymelamedfoto #blackqueerlove #pride #marshapjohnson #sylviarivera See more

08.01.2022 ORIGINAL POST: @moemotivate Correction & condemnation are not the same. In this work of anti-racism, you will all mess up. And when you mess up, you will be corrected. Correction is not only a part of this work, it is this work. But you don’t know how to take correction.... White folks, one of the reasons y’all are fumbling all over the place in showing up for Black lives in a way that is less about you and actually about us is that you’re just winging it. You’re making it up as you go, as though there are no tools or resources available for you to do this work. It’s a slap in the face to see so many of the very people I’ve personally tried to bring into this work, do the very things they would know not to do had they actually invested in the work & committed to it. But you’re messing up so much because you’re operating from the lens & conditioning of white supremacy that has influenced the way you do everything in the world. Including your internalized resistance to following and taking leadership from Black women. Collectively, where have you seen it consistently & routinely properly modeled & reinforced through systems of power of how to follow, listen and pay Black womxn in way that is affirming of our Blackness... our humanity? You have not. Not in your socialization, your classrooms, neighborhoods, jobs, government...not anywhere. But you’ve seen the opposite...silencing, ignoring and exploiting Black womxn and you’ve seen it reinforced through systems of power. And even right now, you’re reinforcing the patterns of oppression specifically w/ Black womxn. Even though you’re not trying to...yet the intent does not negate the impact. You’re used to doing the very thing you’re doing now:: silencing, ignoring, speaking for or over, and exploiting us. It’s normal for you to overlook what we have to say as if it doesn’t matter because for far too long it hasn’t mattered to you. Keep swiping to read it all before commenting. Also do not ask me for more time and labor to clarify or explain any of this to you. Instead sign up for a class or program & get to work. And tag someone you want to bring along with you in this work...especially the white influence

08.01.2022 ORIGINAL POST: @yung_pueblo A blind reaction or the first impulse is usually a record of the past. Instead of repeating old conditioning, give yourself the time you need for the new and authentic you to come forward. Authenticity is not acting on impulse, it is aligning yourself with your values, integrity and the new qualities you are working on cultivating. Understanding your own mind gives you the power you need to undo old conditioning and evolve. This historic moment wh...ere people are coming together to uproot racism from society asks us all to do the deeper work of expanding our self-awareness and knowledge. What can I do to see myself better? Have I truly recognized my own imperfection? Have I found the depth of unconscious biases in my mind? Knowing ourselves better will help us remake our interpersonal relationships. This inner work will decrease the way we directly or indirectly perpetuate racism and will better equip us to move as a collective to reorganize the world in a way where institutional and structural forms of harm are no longer dominant. The problem with doing nothing about your personal hidden patterns and old pain is that they reappear when your mind becomes tense or your environment is turbulent. Blind reactions will try to spread similar trauma to others. The cycle of harm keeps turning until you intentionally heal it. People who heal themselves often find a new sense of love and compassion as a guiding force that helps them make decisions during tough moments. We can’t ignore the fact that we need to think more collectively, our future depends on humanity making better decisions and designing less harmful systems, but we have to make sure that we don’t tilt into extremes and forget about the individual. Society is composed of individuals, if more and more people take their healing seriously, which includes anti-racist work, this will help ensure a massive shift in our world. The individual and collective work should be done simultaneously. Sending love to all beings. #yungpueblo

08.01.2022 ORIGINAL POST: @battymamzelle Her life mattered too. Please sign the petition to ensure that arrests are made in the wrongful death of #BreonnaTaylor. I've put together a small mobile website (#linkinbio) with a list of action items that you can take from home that will help make a material difference in her case. Complete the list, tag me with your letters and cards and let's hope we make some change. #BirthdayForBreonna #SayHerName : @aylasydney

04.01.2022 CW: Discussion of whiteness and Australian & global racism This CW is aimed at honouring non white people who may have tired of hearing and seeing too much discussion surrounding white privilege. There are too many discussions that have not been backed by sufficient action which can cause fatigue. IMAGE FROM: Katrina Bercov via Facebook... We’ve been a little MIA at The XO while we navigate and manage our mental health in a more safe and helpful way. A story for another time. This has been a powerful week as we see the significant results of white supremacy. A lot of people have automatically allowed Australia to stay on a pedestal, pretending we do not experience systemic racism. A lot of people have called this out, too. Last week Rio Tinto blew up Juukan Gorge, a 46,000 year old site in the Pilbara. First Australians make up 3.3% of the population yet make up 28% of the prison population. There’s plenty of defences surrounding how this occurs. Dig deep enough and it all surrounds colonisation and white supremacy. White folk talk about how unbelievable these moments are. Line them up and you can see the trends and patterns. They have modernised and become more subtle at times, but they are there. I’ve written a few emails and am happy to help others if you want to do this but struggle onto get started. Donate money! There are causes driven by minorities that support on a grass roots level. It doesn’t get better than that. Our DM’s are open for those who need a bit more dialogue. We really trust everybody is trying their best with what they’ve got & we need to continue holding ourselves accountable and tracking forward.

03.01.2022 ORIGINAL POST: @adrianmichaelgreen "you are the intersection of amazing and mysterious. so many try to pin you down and box you in and categorize you to make them more comfortable because in their mind they need to define you. but you can't be defined. stay undefined and just be you. never box yourself in for the comfort of anyone else. ever again."@adrianmichaelgreen ... this is for the ones who think what is happening in our nation is just about law enforcement. it is one small part to a whole. this is not a piece that says everyone in law enforcement is bad but those who won't read this will stop at end brutality number one and ignore what is at the heart of it. there are good people in every organization. and then there are people who just want things their way. zoom out and understand there are so many issues at hand. to unpack and examine and expose and assess. so this will bring emotions. bring them. because brutality is happening all around us. this is a call for comprehensive change. for justice. for equity. for human rights. it is monday and those who were loud are now quiet. but i hope that is because you are resting and ramping back up. the weekend is over but the fighting continues. what side of history will you be part of. do you care. there is no hierarchy in brutality. end them all. now.@adrianmichaelgreen spread love @lovaste. i love you.
