The successful applicants will aid in the delivery of children and young peoples programs and community events during the school holiday periods. So today we are asking you - ‘what’s your Y?’ One of our members Sarah says I go to the gym because of health issues. I stay because it made me feel more confident, able to do more things in my normal life. I go to the YMCA because it's a fun family. In England I used to like an impersonal gym where no one would look at me. But then it was easy to not bother turning up. Here, I like being greeted as a friend at the front desk, that class members miss you if you haven't been for a couple of weeks. But mainly I go to Kilgaraff because Naomi picks me up and takes me there!! #theyalicesprings #whatsyourY

08.01.2022 Many of you in Alice Springs will know Nacho, Nina, and their beautiful little boy, Nikita, who was born premature with congenital leukemia. Nikita's condition means that his first year of life has been an uphill battle since day 1, and 2020 has thrown even more spanners in the works for the family. Despite all of this, he show such resilience and positivity, as only kids can! Nikita's fighting spirit continues to inspire us here at the Y, as does his mum and dad's tireless ...love of their little man. The days I don't get to the gym I really feel it, energetically and mentally, so I try and keep in a good routine.... I love training at the Y because it's very accommodating. 06.01.2022 Today we bring you a quick and easy way to spice up your snack game. Introducing, Sweet potato Falafel Bites! You will need: 750g sweet potato, cut into large chunks 2 teaspoons ground cumin... 2 teaspoons ground coriander 1/2 teaspoon mixed spice 1 garlic clove, chopped 1/3 cup chopped fresh coriander, plus extra to serve 1/4 cup plain flour 1 tablespoon sesame seeds Vegetable oil, for shallow-frying 1 cup plain Greek-style yoghurt 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon sweet paprika 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil Method: Step one: Place sweet potato in a microwave- safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH (100%) for 8-10 minutes or until tender. Cool 20 minutes. Peel. Step two: Place sweet potato in a large bowl. Mash coarsely. Add cumin, ground coriander, mixed spice, garlic, fresh coriander and flour. Season with salt and pepper. Mix to combine. Refrigerate 15 minutes. Roll into 3cm balls. Sprinkle with Sesame seeds. Step three: Pour enough vegetable oil into a large frying pan to come 2cm upside of pan. Heat over medium-high heat. Cook falafel, in batches, for 5 minutes, turning, until golden all over. Drain on paper towel. Step four: Meanwhile, combine yoghurt, lemon juice, paprika and mint in a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Drizzle with olive oil.
