25.01.2022 Sculpture Rocks @Campbells Cove, The Rocks 17 Sculptures between the end of the 'Overseas Passenger Terminal' and 'Hickson Road Reserve'. The exhibition ends in just a few days (3rd June 2021). The sculptures are well worth a look if you are in the area. The walk alongside 'Campbells Cove' is really nice out to 'Hickson Road Reserve' with great views on 'Sydney Harbour Bridge' and 'Sydney Opera House'.... Unfortunately, I didn't get to see them all. I liked the twisting red squares 'Locus of Time' and the granite donut 'Oushi Zokei'. The exhibition information (blue) booth is located at the end of 'Campbells Cove Jetty'. https://sculpturebythesea.com/exhi/sculpturerocks/overview/ https://goo.gl/maps/qwd16c4VUKbSCMw79
20.01.2022 I am intending to update this page a lot more frequently with some cool things to do in Sydney town. Mainly focusing on daytime activities for little or no coin. Local secrets.
15.01.2022 Bicentennial Park Has large grassy areas, picnic tables, barbecues, wetlands, viewing towers, playgrounds, sculptures, and a lot more to see and do. The shared bike riding/walking paths are a great place to ride your bike around or walk. The landscape is fairly flat with good signage pointing out direction and park features.... On a previous visit, we biked out to 'Hornswaggle Observation Tower' alongside the Parramatta River. See the old shipwreck rusting away, watch birds from the hide or take in the views from the tower. Lots of car parks around the area. It seems to be a popular place for kids parties and family picnics so may fill up on nice weekend days. Bike hire is available (links below) or take your own. Bikes are allowed on Sydney trains. Public transport (train) is available using either 'Olympic Park' or 'Concord West' railway station. I went up 'Treillage Tower' for a great view of the surrounding area. Unfortunately, the splashing fountains and water spouts in the water play area in front of the tower are not working at the moment. If you're into bird-watching 'Lake Belvedere' or the 'Coastal Saltmarsh' both are home to plenty of bird species. 13.01.2022 Balmoral and Edwards Beach. Such a nice place on a sunny day. Unfortunately, our planned family picnic day at Balmoral Reserve was cloudy, windy and rained a bit. Still, the sun shone through for a few moments and we had a good time watching the sail boats and windsurfers zooming around the harbour. ... The Esplanade walkway from the Bathers' Pavilion to the Balmoral Baths is flat, wide and scenic (approximately 800 metres long). We walked over the small bridge to Rocky Point Island for a different perspective of the bay. This is also a great spot for picnics. Balmoral Reserve has a few picnic tables and the grass verge is bordering the beach sand. The water is usually calm and clear here. I had a quick snorkel/swim around the old rock children's swimming area, the water was warmer than the air. Free car parking spots are scarce and almost impossible to find on nice summer days.
11.01.2022 La Perouse - Congwong Beach, Bare Island Fort, and Frenchmans Beach. A lot to see and do at La Perouse. Even a short stroll over the wooden bridge to Bare Island is enjoyable. There's a good amount of car parks but it does get very busy on nice weekend days. You can also catch the bus from Circular Quay or Maroubra. Congwong Beach is one of my favourites in Sydney. The water is usually very clear and has small waves making it a great spot to go snorkelling. I like to go in fr...om the Eastern end of the beach then swim around over the submerged rocks shelf. I've seen Blackfish, Cuttlefish, Whiting, and many other species of fish/aquatic life. The next beach over is Little Congwong Beach. It's an unofficial naturist/nudie beach. If you want to visit don't walk over the rocks between the beaches. A track at the back of the beach is a much easier path to take. Other coastal bushwalking tracks out to 'Henry Head Lighthouse' and 'Cap Banks' are available (link below). When you leave the beach walking up to the car park, facilities are non-existent if you want to have a freshwater shower. There is a toilet block and a small tap close to the ground, that's it. Bare Island Fort has an interesting defensive past, protecting Australia from foreign threats. Guided tours on Sundays (check the link below) 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30pm. I did it a few years back, I'm sure it was cheaper then? Now it's $15 per person and children are $10. I didn't know some of the movie 'Mission: Impossible 2' was filmed on location here. The island is also very popular for scuba diving. Frenchmans Beach is a good place to go if the swell or wind is up. Personally, I prefer Congwong Beach, set in lovely bush surrounds. Frenchmans Beach is easy to access, has a freshwater shower, picnic tables, and a new children's playground. A few food options are available. 'The Boatshed' has epic views over the water into the bay (link below). 11.01.2022 Barrenjoey Lighthouse has guided tours every Sunday, $5 (weather permitting). Awesome views over Palm Beach, The Pittwater & North over Bouddi National Park. The walk from Palm Beach up to the top of Barrenjoey Headland takes about 20-30 minutes. Three different tracks are available "Service Road", "Smugglers Track" & "Trolley Track".
11.01.2022 Woolooware Bay Shared Pathway, walking and cycling track, Taren Point. A nice new wide track that has boardwalk sections overwater with great views of Botany Bay. Some information placards explain about structures and history of the area, making the walk more interesting. I have not walked/cycled the entire pathway but I think a good section would be between Taren Point and Dolls Point, going over Captain Cook Bridge.... Apparently the entire pathway around Botany Bay goes from La Perouse all the way to Kurnell is 43.6 km long. I would only attempt this entire length with a bike and some prior training.
