22.01.2022 Pink Sisters Support group was delighted to welcome guest speaker Samantha Rennie of #GrievingWell this month to talk about Understanding Grief and the Cancer Journey which group members found incredibly helpful "This session was amazingly powerful in allowing me to access emotion that I wouldn't have been able to describe myself, provide some context to the grief that I was feeling towards the whole experience of breast cancer from the behaviour of everyone around me to th...e treatment and the affects of it on my body and also provided some validation of the experience and inspiration to how it could enrich my life going forward." "I was lost after finishing my treatment, I thought what I was experiencing emotionally was something out of the ordinary. No one told me what could happen post treatment. I'm so glad I reached out and asked for help, it was the best thing that I did. I connected with women that have gone through or are still going through their journey. It was nice to feel that I wasn't going crazy and I felt very supported."
22.01.2022 We were thrilled to receive some feedback from one of our Supporting Blokes members, Max: Many thanks for allowing me to participate in the zoom meeting. Although I pointed it out to Sal on the calendar and said that I wish I'd had this a few months ago, I wasn't sure what I would get out of it. What did I get out of it? Heaps! I know the pain and worries we went through were as real as anyone else's but it made me realise how "lucky "?!, if you can call it lucky, we were th...at Sal had an early diagnosis and mostly her treatment went well with no chemo. She's making a good recovery although she did have a bit of a setback with an infection, but that is good now. She's loving her zoom classes and getting so much out of them, I can tell when I get home that she's had a good class. At first I felt like I didn't belong there as my wife is now relatively well and starting to take control of her life again. I suppose I felt guilty for those reasons in the company of the other amazing people sharing what they and their families, had and are going through. For most of the meeting I sat in awe listening to them, how they dealt with problems and their freedom to express sympathy and offer sound advice. By the end I was shedding a few tears and not really wanting it to end. I'm happy to make my details available to anyone in the group, as we have been or are on this roller coaster that no one wants a ticket on and one thing I've learnt these past months is that every journey is different and help can come from any source, but talking is the best way. As we used say to our eldest son when he was going through a rough patch years ago, if you can't talk to us, family or friends go and talk to the drunk on the park bench, at least you are talking about it. A pity his old man didn't remember that a couple of times lately. But pretty good now and the odd tear and nights like tonight make a difference. Sal getting stronger helps too. We were pretty good before but now we are even more in tune and appreciate each other more. Looking forward to next month too. Thanks and see you then, Max

13.01.2022 On Thursday Think Pink was delighted to host a Q & A session on Covid-19 for its clients and volunteers with Dr Katie Allen MP, Federal member for Higgins and former Paediatrician and Medical Researcher. The session proved to be both interesting and educational with insightful and helpful responses from Dr Katie Allen to often specific questions from clients facing difficult and sometimes unique challenges under the current stage 4 restrictions in Victoria at the moment. Think Pink is incredibly grateful to Dr Katie Allen for generously allowing some time in her no doubt incredibly busy schedule to participate and hope that all those who attended are a little more knowledgeable and a little more positive about the unprecedented situation we are currently facing.

11.01.2022 Messages such as this make our whole week! Dear Michelle & Think Pink, Being a scuba diving instructor - with a lot of physical exercise in my job, there was been almost no exercise from me since my double mastectomy and Diep Flap stomach removal - in March this year.... Everything just seemed too hard or too scary to do, and I worried I'll exacerbate my pain areas. After attending a zoom class with Michelle this morning, I sat on the floor and cried at the fact I have finally found something I am able to do and that brought feelings of achievement. It's made me feel so much better about getting back into some form of fitness and myself. Michelle was amazing in her descriptions and advice in the exercises, and I will definitely be back for the next class. Thank you so much to her and the time she places to help us and guide us through Pilates in her classes, and thank you to the hard-working staff at Think Pink who allow this to happen. Many thanks, Hannah

08.01.2022 TOOLKIT FOR TOUGH TIMES with Samantha Rennie The Second Hope Support group was welcomed by guest speaker Samantha Rennie of Grieving Well to talk about Toolkit for Tough Times.... Over the course of our lives, and without thinking about it, we build for ourselves a tool shed and fill it with a tool for every challenge and opportunity that life brings. With the current pandemic, many of us find that in spite of what we’ve learned along the way, we are ill equipped to face the challenge of these. Let’s go back to the drawing board together, share our toolkit with each other and learn new ways to adapt to this environment so as to build greater resilience, as we navigate this extended lock-down period. We thank Samantha for sharing her knowledge with our Second Hope Support Group. http://samantharennie.com/

06.01.2022 CONVERSATIONS ARE VITAL IN COVID-19 LOCK DOWN Having conversations with family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues, who are isolated during this lock down period, is vital to people's well being and mental health. Through the outstanding work of the Think Pink Living Centre, under the guidance of our Breast Care Nurse and Manager, Andrea Cannon, our staff, Think Pink volunteers and session facilitators, many of these conversations take place every day via Zoom, or via ...the telephone, as demand for the unique Think Pink services grows by the day. 05.01.2022 "While COVID has forced many people into social isolation, I feel it has somehow brought the Think Pink community closer together. Staff and volunteers had to adapt to shifting services online, and we hoped clients would be able to embrace the new medium. I'm thrilled to see so many clients participating in all of the programs. Those who previously struggled to travel to attend programs can now participate at the click of a button, from anywhere in Victoria. It's comforting t...o know that if someone is struggling in isolation, there is a wonderful community of like-minded women they can join, and all they need is an internet connection. Thank you Think Pink for all your fantastic work!" Michelle
