24.01.2022 Our programming for NAIDOC week has continued this week with the children engaged in some wonderful discussion with educators about the significance of this week as well as participating in craft and dramatic experiences. Yesterday educators had the opportunity to share a unique day with the children with Remembrance Day falling in the same week as NAIDOC Week. We used this opportunity to talk to the children about the sacrifices that many had made for us to be able to enjoy... our beautiful country as well as remembering our Elders both past and present who are the traditional custodians of the land. We viewed the story Albert’s War and also held a minutes silence to pay our respects. The children then participated in craft experiences with the Starfish making poppies and the Seahorse children incorporating both dot painting and the poppies together to create an Aboriginal flag. Please be sure to look around the service at this pieces of art hanging as the children are very proud of them as are the educators See more

22.01.2022 A beautiful NAIDOC morning tea this morning . Our very talented cook , Birgit made lemon myrtle scones with cream and Lilly Pilly jam ( made by the Pegasus children from our very own Lilly Pilly trees in our backyard. They were absolutely delicious and are going to be a great add on to our menu . #naidoc2020. #alwayswasalwayswillbe

22.01.2022 Our fabulous Bella read Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas to us on Wednesday as we participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime. It is a fun and exciting story that follows the life of two cheeky chooks who lead another life of the nighttime! We were taken on the journey of glitz and glamour and shared many together through this story

21.01.2022 This is so true.

20.01.2022 Today Sarah shared with the children a beautifully and sensitively written children’s book that touches on the subject of war, specifically the Vietnam war. Released to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Khe Sanh, My Grandfather’s War is a story of a very special bond between a girl and her grandfather. It gives a small window of understanding into the devastation war can bring and war can leave, while ending with a sense of hope as the little girl acknowledg...es that while her Grandfather still gets sad, she now understands why. My Grandfather’s War is a gentle educational tool that mixes narrative and history, helping to highlight the importance of remembrance and that may we never forget the bravery and sacrifice of all our soldiers, past and present. LEST WE FORGET

16.01.2022 Today we said goodbye to our beautiful preschool friend, Harry. Our hearts go out to the Sproule family at this very difficult time. Harry will always be remembered for his easy going, kind hearted and cheeky nature as well as his many stories of his trucking adventures with Dad. His beaming smile would always light up the room and the joy he spread will never be forgotten. He truly was a very special little boy. We will now begin to work together on our new garden - Harry’s... Garden - in his memory. We will keep you up to date with it’s progress. Forever in our hearts Fly high little Hazza xx

16.01.2022 Allergies and intolerances are a very serious matter and as educators we feel they should be treated as such. Within our service we do have children who are anaphylactic to various allergens and while we acknowledge this with the children in our care, discussions to refresh their knowledge and understanding are always important. As part of our services recognition of Food Safety Week, educators in both rooms have been leading the children in discussions surrounding what aller...gies are and what they can mean to those who suffer from them. The importance of hand washing was a very prominent part of our discussions as it is an essential line of defense against not only the spread of germs, but also stopping the spread of particles from known food allergens to others. With many of the children moving onto kindergarten in the new year, the opportunity for them to share food from their lunchboxes with peers becomes very real. Our wonderful resource set, ‘Let’s learn about allergies’ has been very well explored this week by the children in both individual and group settings and has prompted many discussions relating to the dangers of sharing food with others. Also revisited this week has been the importance of road safety. The children have enjoyed exploring our new Road Safety Lotto Game - a wonderful new resource from the ‘Kids and Traffic Early Childhood Road Safety Education Program.’ As a service, we cannot stress enough the importance of holding your child’s hand when walking to and from the car, whether it be within our preschool car park or out and about in the community - please HOLD THEIR HAND We are all looking forward to extending these discussions with hands on learning experiences next week through cooking and utilising our bike track area.

13.01.2022 We celebrated educators day this week and had a great night . Thankyou to our amazing educators who go above and beyond to provide high quality education and care to all of our children and their families . The busy days , the late nights of paperwork , the inservice courses , the assessment and rating , the professional development, the program and planning , the staff meetings , the EYLF links , the NQF and NQS... the observations , the checklists and portfolio nights , just to name a few of the expectations of an early childhood educator. It’s not for the faint hearted , but we love each and every day with the beautiful children in our centre, and their families .

13.01.2022 From everyone here at Thirlmere Pegasus we are deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of our little friend Harry Sproule. The Sproule family have been a part of our Pegasus family for over 10 years, having the privilege of watching Claire, Max, Sam and Harry grow into beautiful, caring and loving children. A beautiful boy whose smile lit up the room, Harry was well liked among his peers and had time for everyone. Educators loved to hear all the stories of his adventu...res both at home and out and about in the truck with Dad; his love of trucks evident from early on. Harry loved to garden, he loved to build amazing constructions with his peers from his favourite Mobilo and was a real outdoors boy. He could often be found climbing trees and racing his peers around the playground. We all have such fond memories of our time with Harry. Our educators here at Pegasus feel that it should be at the discretion of parents as to whether they wish to speak with their children about Harry’s passing and in turn kindly ask that our current families please respect educators wishes and their concern for the emotional welfare of the children, and not ask questions regarding this tragic accident. In memory of Harry and his love of gardening, we will be re-vamping our preschool garden and naming it after him. Harry will forever be in our heartsfly high our little Hazza xx

12.01.2022 The children have been really loving our new environments in the backyard. Our Lilly Pilly trees have been providing us with so many learning opportunities and intentional teaching moments. We have been discussing bush tucker and sustainability , making Lilly Pilly jam , cooking on the fire , and the new cubby is proving to be a very popular place to make Lilly Pilly mud pies. In the coming weeks our outdoor environment will be getting new sand and a new mud kitchen , also the bark area will be revamped with new and flexible climbing equipment. All the children are very excited about this , especially Tony . Please checkout our new nature play photos in the foyer , showing our latest nature play !!

11.01.2022 Did you know that the Australian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines recommend no more than 1 hour of screen time for children aged 2-5? And that screen time is not rec...ommended for infants? Paint Liverpool REaD has developed this screen time infographic that talks about some alternatives to screen time and the possible effects of too much screen time. See more

04.01.2022 This week we celebrate Food safety week and road safety week . So we are looking forward to sharing this new resource with the children.
