24.01.2022 Morning! Today how about trying Maths...and cooking! Did you know cooking and baking with your kids is a great way to include some maths in their day?... -Talk about measuring. How many cups of flour/sugar? What is 1/2 a cup? Is 1/3 of a cup LESS than 1/2 or more? -Talk about time and reading a clock. How long does this step take? What time do we take our cakes out of the oven? -Once you’ve finished - talk about fractions and division. How many slices of cake do we need for our family? What if everyone gets two pieces? 19.01.2022 Morning folks! Today’s ‘Learning at Home’ tip is: CREATE YOUR OWN ART SHOW... This week make time as a family (even the grow-ups) to spend 10-30 minutes a day creating art. At the end of the week, create a gallery and host an Art Show! Everyone can dress up, have fancy drinks and listen to music whilst looking at all the beautiful art. More tips & ideas below. -Painting, drawing and printing are all great! Remember you could also create sculptures, collages, sew, knit or crochet -Maybe choose a theme? Underwater Kingdoms, Create a Creatures, etc -Remember to think about your kid’s ages when planning your art sessions. Little kids are usually better with shorter times, big kids can concentrate for longer. -Get the kids to create the invitations to the Art Show along with the menus, playlist and any other ‘event’ details. -Remember to have fun! Today, if you are after a little fun how about a scavenger hunt?... -You could do a themed hunt, matchbox cars, small stuffed toys, etc -Make sure you let everyone know if there is a time limit (or not!) -Maybe have a prize for the winner? I am starting a new chapter in my sustainability journey as I embark on a research project in North Queensland. Super nerdy stuff and I cannot wait!
