24.01.2022 APPRECIATION of what there is and has been. It's so easy to live our lives noticing what we don't have, but what do we have? Food, air, water, sunlight, connection, inspiration, a future. Most of us have these things. It was my birthday last month, but I didnt celebrate on the day, as it coincides with the anniversaries of some deaths in my family. But yesterday, I had a small gathering of friends over for a meal, and felt nourished and appreciated by my community. This bouq...uet was given to me on the class I taught on my birthday - a perfect evening for me. Thank you.... . 23.01.2022 So much growth and change this year. Last week, I began my fourth year of teaching and have learned more than I could imagine from that. And I also feel that the knowledge from my Bachelor of Health Science course is starting to come together, that I am more comfortable with not knowing everything, with operating in the presence of uncertainty. Uncertainty has been a great challenge for many of us in 2020. Sometimes it's hard, and sometimes it's good, and there's always yoga.... This week on the mat... 22.01.2022 I have found as I reduce the amount of stress in my life, I create more time for other things: hobbies, friends, work...just being. Subjectively, its a way to slow the passage of time. What a precious thing to be able to experience. Although its certainly difficult as we stare down the barrel of multiple existential threats in this very strange year, it is possible. 09.01.2022 In my Monday night meditation classes, we have been exploring mindfulness, and Ive found it personally enriching and illuminating. Mindfulness doesnt need to be achieved in a formal setting - it is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. So it could be over a cup of tea. These words from Rumi captured the sense of inner I am discovering as I unfold in...to the practice. In tomorrow nights session, we will be further exploring Mindfulness, exploring the 5-step model set out by Vidyamala Burch in "Living Well with Pain & Illness". Starting with awareness, then moving towards the unpleasant, to seeking the pleasant, broadening awareness to include both and seeking balance, and finally moving to a state of response, rather than reaction. 7pm Perth time in person and online xx

Protected by our hard border closure of several months, our lives have largely returned to normal. Elsewhere the struggle against the virus continues. 03.01.2022 Im starting to get my old level of energy back as my health improves and Im so grateful. After more than a year of low energy after being placed on supplements to correct severe nutritional deficiencies, I am back to enjoying vinyasa (flow) practice. Its particularly good in colder weather, although I still delight in slower practices such as Hatha, Yin and meditation. This week, many of my classes will be getting into the quads, giving these hard working thigh muscles som...e love. Its gonna be juicy! This week on the mat...
