25.01.2022 Fun fact Friday A koala is a marsupial, the word marsupial comes from the Latin word marsupium, meaning pouch. Often mistakingly called koala bears, they aren't beary bear like at all, see what we did there A koala's young is born after just 30-36 days of pregnancy - what a dream and called a joey, they are born the size of a jellybean (immature) and then develop further in the safety of a pouch, whereas a bear gives birth to a cub after being pregnant for roughly 7 mon...ths. 24.01.2022 WILD AND FREE... just how little kids should be! Let me give you a real quick run down on our playgrounds, we'd LOVE to hear your thoughts in the comments. Picnic Bay - super great play and grass area for kids, the only one that is fenced in, once they're up they are rather enclosed till they get across to the slide (no falling off the edges here for the little ones, no running back and forward for the grown ups), best enjoyed in the mornings as there is no shade sail (yet!).... Nelly Bay - a hugeeee grassy area which leads to the beach and the coolest climbing tower and slippery slide, also some little slides and arguable the best swings on the island, gets a little sunny in the afternoons but hey, slip slop slap. Alma Bay - shady and picturesque, swing, climb, spin, slide. Alma's park is a great all rounder, a little something for everyone... and the view, that's for you Mums and Dads! Horseshoe Bay - this one has some AWESOME climbing nets which are perfect for the big kids, there's a couple of slides, swings and a little cubby like area to set up shop in. The best bit? Each of these parks is on the beachfront so there is plenty of room to run, splash in the sea, build sandcastles on the shore and burn off some of that never-ending energy. 22.01.2022 Looking for a way to greet your next sunrise with magical 360-degree views of the coast and coral sea? From the turn-off to Radical Bay, this track ascends, sometimes steeply, to follow a ridge behind the bays before arriving at the ruins of the Forts complex operated during World War II. Lookouts afford excellent views to the Palm Island Group in the north and Bowling Green Bay National Park in the south. Magnetic Island’s WWII forts are listed on the Queensland Heritage Reg...ister and are among the best examples of such forts on Queensland’s east coast. This walk is also famous for spotting Koalas in their natural environment as it is home to the largest free-roaming colony in the world. Make sure the Forts walk is on your Maggie to do list! 22.01.2022 Take the path less travelled... Up in the hills of Arcadia you'll find a track which leads to the Sphinx lookout. You'll be rewarded by a view which is somewhat similar to this, looking out over Alma Bay and across to Geoffrey and Nelly Bays. Follow the track from the end of Endeavour Road in Arcadia, it's more popular in the wet season but we think it's a pretty incredible spot to discover any old day. If you hired one of these bad boys from @islehiremagneticisland (or anywhere else) and didn't take a photo like this, well firstly we are slightly disappointed, and secondly, you need to come back and take one! Our favourite 'topless' spots are Geoffrey Bay under the palms, the far left end of Pacific Drive in Horseshoe Bay, the Nelly Bay esplanade (seriously underrated), and the Rocky Bay lookout. 14.01.2022 OK say it with me... Arthur Bay, Whitfield Cove, little bay with no official name, Alma Bay... alright alright, we think you get it! Bay after bay, this is paradise. 12.01.2022 We are CELEBRATING the news of those Southern borders opening from December 1st! We have been so lucky on Magnetic Island with the amazing support of Queenslanders, almost all of our operators have managed to make it through but we also realise it still isn’t as busy as it was and there’s a lot of families who haven’t seen each other for a long time! So tell us, have you booked your holiday to Maggie yet? We can’t wait to welcome you to our warm sunshine and tropical paradise...! Photo via @its.me.rhe Get planning your escape from the South at www.thisismagneticisland.com.au #thisismagneticisland

12.01.2022 Oh hey are you on your way to meet us? Bremner Point is one of the islands most picturesque vantage points, looking out towards @townsvillenorthqueensland and across our Geoffrey Bay snorkel trail, we'd say our little allied rock wallabies have picked a pretty great spot to call home. 12.01.2022 Beep beep! Cruising topless with @islehiremagneticisland We’re big fans of this walkway, it’s called Gabul Way and offers an incredible view of Geoffrey Bay. You’ll walk right alongside massive Hoop Pines which grow from the sea level up between granite boulders, pretty cool! It’s also the walk that links Nelly Bay and Arcadia and I would say @fruits_n_scoops is the treasure at the end... Walk, ice cream, job well done! Photo via @letsgetouttahere_... 11.01.2022 Island sunsets are ALWAYS a good idea We have TWO top sundowner tips... 1. Horseshoe Bay is seriously unreal, depending on the time of the year the sun sets over different parts of the mountain range (IT IS MAGICAL). Not only is it great, it's super accessible and hassle free, when the sun is set toddle across the road for dinner and a drink. 2. West Point, arguably the favourite, she's a bit of a mission to get to. Leaving Picnic Bay you'll travel along a grated dirt road... before arriving at Young Bay. An uninterrupted view of the golden hour is the reward and if you enjoy a spot of fishing or a charcuterie board this is the place to enjoy it. Not sure how to get there? No worries, chat with @magneticjeeptours or @4x4xploremagnetic and book your ride. Where's your favourite island sunset spot? Photo via @thedailyluxe www.thisismagneticisland.com.au #thisismagneticisland

11.01.2022 Ready for a weekend exploring our rugged coastline and pristine bays? So are we! Get amongst nature on our Forts walk over the weekend before it closes for a week (from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th), there's currently no parking at the top while they work on the Forts Junction Hub BUT you can either... 1) Park down the bottom of the hill on the Horseshoe Bay side and hike up via the trail (500 metres or so)... 2) Do the loop from Horseshoe towards the Forts hiking past Balding, Radical, Florence and Arthur Bays (our top pick but a fairly long trek) OR 3) Catch the bus from wherever you are to the start of the track. Photo via @exploreshaw www.thisismagneticisland.com.au #thisismagneticisland

10.01.2022 Would you believe this isn't even the most popular sunset vantage point on the island!? If you want to see the sun go down with an uninterrupted view across the open ocean you need to trek out to West Point BUT if you can't get out there we think Horseshoe Bay offers an alright sunset over the mountain range without any hassle Photo via @amberstorie... www.thisismagneticisland.com.au #thisismagneticisland

10.01.2022 Have you heard the news? Magnetic Island is open for business. We’re welcoming Queenslanders back to our tropical paradise! Clear blue skies, warm winter sunshine, beautiful fringing reefs, and palm-lined secluded sandy beaches, come relax, rejuvenate, and recharge during the perfect winter escape on Maggie.... 09.01.2022 Sleepy Picnic Bay. In 1957 the Townsville Harbour Board approved the building of the jetty we see today and 2 years later it was completed with the addition of the shelter almost 20 years after that. In early 2001 when the new Harbour facilities at Nelly Bay were announced it was also announced that the jetty would be removed as soon as the structure became obsolete. THANKFULLY on Sunday the 8th of July 2001 1500 people rallied on the jetty asking for it to be saved and by 20...04 it had earnt its place on the Queensland Heritage Register. 09.01.2022 Cruising island style This may just be the perfect way to explore our coastline, stopping at each of our bays, climbing a few mountains, discovering local cafes and restaurants tucked away in side streets, exploring all the good stuff Maggie has to offer.
