24.01.2022 Halloween. This year we started our own tradition. Taken from the idea of the Mexican ‘ofrenda’ where in the photographs of people who have passed are placed on the altar with a collection of offerings designed to welcome them back to the home. We may not necessarily believe in an afterlife, but we’ve lost too many beautiful souls recently in our family. So in order to ensure their memory lives on we have done this. Every year we will do the same. We will talk to our boys ...about our family and explain who they were and what they meant to us. We’ll remember them, we’ll talk of them, we’ll ‘welcome them back to our home’. Our boys will know their ancestors and we will make sure they’re a part of our lives for as long as we are able to. 23.01.2022 Lets talk breastfeeding! I personally do NOT love breastfeeding. Ive never been one of those Mums and that would cry when baby weened. I dont get upset at the prospect of finishing breastfeeding and Ive certainly never found it easy. I understand why some women love it and why its such a deeply fulfilling thing; but I dont love it. At all. With our first son feeding was agony. He fed every hour for about 3 months straight due to a lip and tongue tie that wen...t undiagnosed. My milk supply never fully established and I was taking motilium to help. Latching made me cry and the whole experience was just exhausting for both of us. With our second I was better prepared and so far the journey has been okay. He comfort sucks and refuses a dummy which is tiring but its been considerably easier. But I still dont love it. I was so incredibly hard on myself the first time to a point where I broke down when the paediatrician told us to give him formula while we were in hospital. Theres so much pressure placed on Mums to breastfeed, even unintentional pressure and it makes it so hard to step back from it and do what is best for you and your baby. My mental journey this time around has almost led me to stop breastfeeding a number of times but Im lucky enough to have such beautiful people around me that are supporting me every step regardless of what I choose. Breastfeeding is HARD. Physically, emotionally, mentally. Its a challenge in every way. Its also rewarding and fulfilling too. If you cant do it or dont want to do it then theres no shame in that. If you want to breastfeed your baby for years thats your right to decide. But dont take the idyllic perfectly relaxed photos you see online as gospel. Its okay to struggle, its okay to decide on a different path, its completely okay to do whatever the hell works best for you and your baby. Breastfeeding is hard and its not for everyone and thats completely fine. There is no breast is best theres only fed is best. Always. Whats your experience with breastfeeding? 20.01.2022 This mum stuff is hard. Ive never been one of those people that always wanted to be a Mum. I hadnt even really considered kids until the time came when suddenly I did. Now I have two. And there are days. There are days when I spend more of my time being annoyed by things my 3 year old does, days when I get shitty that my 11 week old is battling sleep like its the plague. Days when I cry... a lot. Then there are other days. Other days when my eldest and I play together wi...th not a care in the world. Days when I read 100 books doing all the silly voices and get both my boys smiling. I have wonder Mum moments where I cook and clean and keep up with nap times and feed times and lunch times and quiet times and everything else times. But every day is different. Theres no right or wrong. Theres no bad day or failed days theres just different days. 11.01.2022 My husbands father recently passed away. Just before Christmas, it was unexpected and inexplicably sad. Our live havent felt the same since and I dont think they ever will. Throughout all of this my number one concern was making sure my husband knew he had my undying and constant support and love. 03.01.2022 A playground or a Galaxy? At some stage we grow up. We stop being able to see the whole galaxy in the sandpit. We forget how to play and dream. Somewhere along the line we lose the magic that came so easily to us in those early years. Somewhere along the line... we grew up. Kids imaginations are so vast and so absolutely amazingly unlimited that a simple playground can be literally anything in the world, while the adults stand by and see only the swings and the slides and ...the potential for broken bones. 02.01.2022 Very intriguing read. The arts world is suffering and it's taking its toll on artists and their work. We need better funding, broader platforms and less marginalised parameters to work within. To those of you that have asked me or advised me lately to look for work doing what I love (writing / creating) i emplore you to look at this article. The arts world is thriving for a very small number of us, the rest of us could and likely will spend a lifetime trying to make ends meet... whilst juggling family, friends, bills and jobs to pay for our costs of living all whilst attempting to break into fields that are either "not open for submissions" or have a very solid ceiling you won't break through unless you're pretty damn lucky, or happen to hit it at the right moment in the right place. Food for thought, next time you ask an artist, writer, singer, producer etc. Why they aren't doing "what they love" for a living, try to remember that the romanticized views you see of the Dali's , the J K Rowling's , the Hemsworth's and the Lucas' aren't always a depiction of how challenging and sometimes disheartening it can be to get your work out there. To give you an idea 18 out of the 20 literary agents in Australia aren't currently taking any new manuscripts for "the foreseeable future" and the other 2 out of 20 are "currently only focusing on works of non fiction, poetry or cook books". Just to give you an idea. But... There's always a but, we will continue to do the things we love because we love them. We continue to search and create and edit and challenge and change and love what we do because it's as much a part of our human code as walking is. Being a creative soul is hard, and it's why many of us get so passionate when people ask us about it. It's just one of those occasionally heartbreaking aspects of being a creative that you don't necessarily get offered the same opportunities as those in other fields. But, as always, we will persevere and hopefully one day we'll break through that ceiling and the art world will be ablaze with as many possibilities and opportunities as we hope for! See more

02.01.2022 About a lifetime ago I made these. I’d not long had a miscarriage and at the time had a friend who was going through a lot too. I’ve been a Supernatural fan since it started and so was she. So I made these. Whenever we needed them we passed them back and forth to one another, so we knew we were there even if we didn’t want to talk or couldn’t talk. This last year, eighteen months say, COVID aside, was possibly the worst one yet for my family. (It was also equally one of th...e best with the birth of our second son, so you know bit of everything here.) Somewhere in the middle of that madness though I found this again; and this part of me found more comfort in that little laminated card sized note than I could imagine. I guess my point here is that sometimes we don’t need big grand gestures or actions of love or whatever to take comfort in. 02.01.2022 International breastfeeding week is coming to a close and I cant help but think back on my own experiences with breastfeeding. My eldest son had a lip and tongue tie so feeding was a serious challenge for both of us. Milk never established and i was feeding every 45 minutes to an hour round the clock for 4 months straight. This time around Ive been lucky enough to have a little man who can feed easily and hasnt had any issues so far. Both experiences have been completely ...different for a variety of reasons. I struggled the first time round because of supply and establishment and this time round Ive grappled with the mental pressure of breastfeeding as well as everything else. It just goes to show every single journey and experience is different and comes with its own peaks and pitfalls. So heres to the breastfeeding mummas out there.
