25.01.2022 As promised ages ago here is the release of the other bit of the fishing village for you. Of course the vision is blurred and a very old routine but some of you will love it featuring the New Zealand Hornpipe. .

25.01.2022 Oh I love these new Wiggles Live shows they are doing! I sat and watched the entire thing! They are just so down to earth! Here is the section with Lachie singing the highland fling song and explaining our hand shape. Well done Emma and Simon with your flinging!!

24.01.2022 Did you know that prior to recommencing classes the following list has had to be applied? I wonder if other dancing teachers following these conditions? COVID-19: The following information will be put in place for the safety of your dancer: A complete clean & disinfected floor shall be prepared each day prior to classes. Dancers are asked not to sit on the floor at all - not for putting on shoes or to stretch or warmup. All surfaces shall be wiped over with disinfectant p...rior to each class. The Scout Den floor has been measured to ensure there is a space of 4 square metres for each dancer. Classes have been limited so that self-distancing of 1.5 metres can be maintained. The girls must bring their own practice skirt and NOT share with others. Swords must be sanitized between classes. There is a separate entry and exit for all class participants front door to enter and rear door for exit. On entry the dancer will have his/her temperature taken - if the reading indicates that the pupil is not well, entry will be refused. Parents should ensure that pupil has been admitted prior to their departure. Do not bring your dancer to class if she/he is not well. A record book with parents name, email & phone number will be at the front door and dancers name will be recorded on admission each day. There will be hand sanitizer on the entry table to use on admittance. There is to be no physical contact with anyone in the hall. Please remember to bring a water bottle- definitely no sharing with others. Any water bottles left in the hall will be disposed of. The kitchen facilities are out of bounds, ensure you have sufficient water. The only community shared facility will be the upstairs toilet and hand basin which is to be sanitized by the user, prior to use, with wipes provided. Please dispose of paper towel in the bin which will be emptied after each class. Seating for dancers will be marked 1.5 m apart. Place your bag in this space. Try not to touch your face please. 22.01.2022 Now this is a point

22.01.2022 This video is blurry and very old. My son Craig is the boy and he is 52 in June so imagine! Great sentimental value and just wanting to tell you Consider Yourself One of Us!

21.01.2022 Our little Thistle dancers have shared in so much fun over the past few years. Here are some photos of what theyve been up to

21.01.2022 Have fun watching this story of an Irish washing day.

21.01.2022 Happy Birthday to one of our Thistle legends . Elsie Innes Barker, also known as "Innes", "Mrs Barker", and most affectionately "Mrs B", would have celebrated her 101st birthday today. She passed away in December 2011 but her memory lives on in the many stories told by all those who had the pleasure of her company, and when we dance the jig of course! Do you have a "Mrs B" story?

20.01.2022 Following on from our previous video, this performance shows the longevity of Margaret Paterson's choreography. Performed in Brisbane as part of the Scotland th...e Brave concert 10 years after it was seen at the Sydney Opera House, this timeless piece is danced once again by a new generation of Thistle Highland Dancers. 20.01.2022 In this dance, which is fondly known amongst Thistle dancers as the "Penguin Reel", we can see another example of Margaret Paterson's talent for using surprisin...g formations. The term "Penguin Reel" becomes pretty apparent as the dance goes on. It's an entertaining and fun piece that fits very well in Margaret Paterson's repertiore. We hope you enjoy... 20.01.2022 Three small children from New Zealand, the one on stage right is Morgan Bamford probably dancing her first public SOBHD Highland Fling. This was Judy Clark’s foray into SOBHD. Wonderful experience with great dancers during this trip to New Zealand. Thank you to the "Pops" and Colin Harper.

18.01.2022 This next video is of a choreography we have previously shown, but now in the process of being adapted for a stage show. You will recognise elements of the orig...inal dance now altered for a smaller cast and different venue as it is performed on stage with Queensland Pops Orchestra. It is an excellent example of the evolution of Margaret Paterson's choreography and its adaptability. We hope you enjoy this rehearsal footage from.... Didgeridoo See more

17.01.2022 Great Piping and dancing at the Edinburgh Tattoo a few years ago with the BBC Pipe Band.

16.01.2022 The Fishing Village: This video is of poor vision quality but was also a long time ago. It is a scene about a Scottish fishing village where a young wife looks for her husband when his Arran jumper is found washed up on the beach. Villagers, sailors and the usual drunken sailor all compose the story. Some great dancers in this video and such a pity it is not clearer.

16.01.2022 So here we go! Recommencing Thistle classes 14th July at MITCHELTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH HALL, RUBY RD., MITCHELTON. Please contact [email protected] for inquiries.

15.01.2022 Thistle Highland Dancing Studio would like to wish all our family, friends and followers a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year. Thank you for your continued support during this challenging year. We look forward to sharing our dancing adventures with you all in 2021

14.01.2022 We are so excited to be back in the studio this week after a very long four months! Tuesday will see classes recommence for our Beginner to Premier dancers, and our Primary and new Beginners will be back on Saturday . New students are most welcome, please contact us for more information.

13.01.2022 Highland Fling featuring Thistle highland dancer, Hamish.

10.01.2022 Updating friends on the classes at Thistle. Marg J and I have this disinfecting and Covid-19 safe practice down "pat" so to say and we feel that 15 mins between class is too much time. So nice to be back in a familiar hall. Lessons are good, standard of technique and fitness in general is improving so quickly. The students seem to be interested in the structure the classes are taking. A promise of Cakewalk in the under 15 yrs class is getting Lillie excited especially how... she will dance it with her friend Milla. 16 & over are enjoying the comeback of the "adult" class with MPs version of lessons in life and related, meaningful information to do with dancing (of course) is enjoyed. Show and tell (sore big toe) was a highlight last week.

10.01.2022 A Christmas message from RSOBHD Chairman Christine Lacey MBE

10.01.2022 Here is a link for a choreographed Fling with Hamish McInnes performing in the current International event. I hope the link works. He was invited because he is currently ranked "the top male dancer in the world" well done Hamish. https://s3.membervaultcdn.com/elem/1151831_TeamWorld-1.pdf

09.01.2022 Lots of fun to be had at our Tuesday night zoom catch ups Looking forward to tonight

09.01.2022 An apology to those who have (up to now) been included on the Members list. Since this Thistle open page is now working well (and we thank you for your following), only current pupils and their parents are remaining on the Members page which is the direction for information relevant to classes and other studio items not relevant to our friends. The administration for this page will ensure that you are all kept up to date with the Thistle studios interests. At the moment nothing is happening studio wise but preparation for the 14 July is well in hand. Margaret Paterson

09.01.2022 For those that missed it, these videos of the Drones taking us into 2021 were incredible, I’ve added all parts together

09.01.2022 Wishing Thistle teacher, Sarah Palfrey (nee Johnston) a very happy birthday! Heres Sarah when she was a competitive dancer, holding the Grand Australasian Dame Patty Menzies Cup for the 19 & Over Adult Championship. Beautiful photo and just one of the many trophies that she held during her dance career. Have a great birthday, Sarah!

09.01.2022 Thistle Studio unfortunately is being greatly affected by Covid-19. Five students are not returning this year with some giving up all together which is a really sad situation for Highland Dancing in general. All the best to them and hope they have some happy memories that will remain with them for many years.

08.01.2022 Come and join us! Youll love it

07.01.2022 Can you guess who these dancers are?

07.01.2022 I don't care if it is a bit blurry, I still got the goose bumps - must be feeling a bit soft today. Thank you lovely ladies and Craig, smart little fella that you were and still are. A very pretty and simple routine but do you know what? Many of these dancers are still in their circle of friends. Can we have some names please?

06.01.2022 Monday Matters: I thought today I would like to thank all our friends who enjoy this page. It is 10 weeks since Thistle studio classes were shut down, the longest period of not teaching for 52yrs I think. We are gathering the dancers together for a zoom experience on a Tuesday evening when normally they would be attending class. It has been fun. It is the intention to open classes again on the 14 July after the school holidays for Term 3 - all being well. ... Unfortunately there are no examinations, competitions or Championships until probably October, almost a total wipe out for the year. Sad to say one little girl has decided not to come back to dancing but another will be joining the studio - there will be changes to which we all have to adapt. My favourite quote so far during this situation: This storm will pass. But the choices we make now could change our lives for years to come Yuval Noah Harari. 20 March 2020. See more

06.01.2022 Here is another performance that sees the Thistle Studio dancers teaming up with the Queensland Highlanders Pipe Band. It is uniquely Margaret Paterson. We hope you enjoy... Highlander's Reel

06.01.2022 Our little Primaries were delighted to be back at class this morning after a 4 month break! Here is a video of two of our wee ones - Ajda, age 4, who is patiently awaiting her first competition experience, followed by Abby, age 5, who has only had a handful of lessons since commencing at the start of this year. We think they did very well at their first lesson back!

05.01.2022 Happy Birthday Abbie have a good day tomorrow. Love from all your Thistle Friends x

04.01.2022 Covid-19 is drawing on. Thistle studio will be back at the Grovely Scout Den 14th July. If you have any little people who would love to learn Highland Dancing please contact us, our teacher, Mrs. Sarah Palfrey is the best, and teaches with fun, come and try it out!

03.01.2022 Well this is a wild and wooly routine - item 2, but Barbara McCullough shows off her prowess with some Irish dancing and the Thistle ladies in these routines will reminisce about how much stamina they had in them there days. Sorry the sound is so low but after all it was a long time ago.

03.01.2022 Well this might just work for our studio!!

03.01.2022 Happiness is.... friendships, adventures and... highland dancing!

02.01.2022 I was going to complain but the voice in my head said "stop it". I hope all the followers of this page are keeping well and happy. I attended the funeral of Denise McPherson today, a lovely quiet and respectful service, thank you. Denise was a very hard worker for Highland Dancing and the Mum of two Champion dancers Amanda and Kerry, my condolences to the families with much respect and lovely memories from our close association. Marg P

02.01.2022 With permission of course, here are lovely photos of our new beginners preparing for class last Saturday. Abbie and Mum Jacqueline, Bernadette with Ajda and Ari with his Dad. I am sure they will enjoy their experience with Thistle Studio and Highland Dancing.

02.01.2022 Happy Birthday Barbara. So many cakes so many parties, hope you enjoyed your week. x

02.01.2022 Discover the background and history of the RSOBHD with the first in a series of videos from RSOBHD President Billy Forsyth MBE.

02.01.2022 Lara, Isabel and Abbie got together to dance the "Blue Bonnets" as part of the #ScottishNationalChallenge at the #InterActiveHighlandDancingFestival. We hope you enjoy it!

02.01.2022 Oh my goodness I got 3 doses of goose bumps watching this. How good are those Johnston kids? Rehearsal or not you are all exactly perfect for these roles - so good. xxx

01.01.2022 A photo of Craig Johnston from the paper.

01.01.2022 A little bit of cuteness for your Saturday night! Today these little ones danced for the first time in front of their parents and friends. Two of these dancers only commenced Highland Dancing this term (one only two weeks ago!). We were very proud of them
