25.01.2022 Now the Easter holidays are just about done and dusted for another year, the real countdown can begin. It's only 59 days (and counting!) until opening weekend 2021, and to say we're excited is an understatement! WIth a small sprinkling of snow last weekend giving us plenty of hope for a good dumping this winter, it's never too early to organise your winter getaway and start planning. There are PLENTY of businesses both on and off the mountain that deserve all the love you can... give them after last year's dismal winter, so why not get in touch with your ski hire of choice and pre-book your snow gear before you even arrive? They all have a fantastic selection of equipment and clothing for sale too if you're in need of an upgrade, and don't forget all the cafes and restaurants serving delicious meals from breakfast through until dinner. Now to just bring on that snow! In our latest edition, a time to remember as ANZAC Day approaches, Mount Beauty's turn to host the Victorian Enduro Tour, the 2020 Alpine Challenge is finally ready to rumble, the Mount Beauty Music Festival returns for a free weekend, and more! Grab a copy from your favourite local business, or click below to read it online. https://issuu.com/thisweekfcmtb/docs/fcmbt_ed_s21-14

25.01.2022 What an absolute champion! Yesterday, local cyclist Mitch Cook completed the most gruelling ride of his life, completing not only the equivalent vertical height of Mount Everest, but adding an additional 2 laps of the Tawonga Gap road to take the total to 10,000 vertical metres, and 21 laps in total. Pictured is his penultimate climb (with only one more lap to go), the relieved rider with his mum and dad, and post champagne shower courtesy of mum, Tina.... So why would Mitch take on such a mammoth physical challenge you ask? All to raise money and awareness for men's health, in particular mental health, after feeling the devastating impact mental health has had on the local community this year. That's a big achievement from an even bigger hearted bloke if we've ever seen one. At present, the total raised is over $8.5K, with more to come - and there's still time to donate here. https://au.movember.com/mospace/14259797

25.01.2022 To all our Snowsport and Mountain Adventure Enthusiasts, friends and family of Australian alpine ski racing legend, Steve Lee, a fundraising initiative, #steveleefightback, has recently been launched after the three-time Winter Olympian suffered a debilitating stroke on 6th September this year. To make a donation, please visit: https://asf.org.au/commu/snow-australia/steve-lee-fightback You can read our whole article in our latest edition here https://bit.ly/3kzzcVe... Read Rachael Oakes-Ash’s (aka Miss Snow It All) remarkable story about Steve Lee here: www.snowsbest.com/steve-lee-stroke-help/ This article prepared by the team at Falls Creek Resort Management and we are sending our strength and support to Steve and his family on his road to recovery. To aid in this, our local Falls Creek Foodworks have added Steve Lee to their 'Spirit of the Community' scheme (Number 1096), which is now active in the Mount Beauty and Falls Creek stores. The Spirit of the Community scheme allows shoppers to donate their points to a community organisation or cause of their choice. Every quarter those points are converted to cash and donated proportionally. "We encourage our shoppers to allocate their points to Steve’s Fund. Quote number '1096' at the register when shopping at Falls Creek and Mount Beauty Foodworks. "Steve Lee and his family hold a special place in the heart of the Falls Creek Community. We have added Steve to our list of Spirit of the Community recipients so we can help to contribute to his road to recovery. It gives us great pleasure to give back into the communities that we live and work in. "We started our ‘Spirit of the Community’ scheme as our way of thanking our customers for shopping with us. Over the years we have donated over $500,000 to numerous clubs, organisations, schools and individuals. We send our best wishes to Steve and his family. Karen & Nick Cook

25.01.2022 Surprise! We're coming to you a day early this week as we all prepare for one of our favourite long weekends of the year. With the weather forecast looking absolutely brilliant, the streets are already buzzing with that excited Easter holidays vibe as our beloved visitors roll into town - and you could say we're just a little excited (especially for the all the chocolate we get to eat for breakfast on Sunday)! It's the stark opposite from how the valley and Falls Creek were f...eeling last year, so please don't mind us while we soak in every second of this wonderful feeling. We'd also like to include a big shout out to all of our local businesses who won't necessarily be kicking back and relaxing this weekend, but doing quite the opposite - working one of their busiest weekends of the year to provide our locals and tourists alike with the fantastic customer experience they're all known and loved for. Either way, we hope everyone has a brilliant weekend and appreciates the time spent with friends and family! In our latest edition, 400 hikers overcome the rain to conquer the inaugural Australian Grand Traverse, welcoming home the new owners of Kiewa Country Cottage, the amazing Mount Beauty Art Show is back, and it's Easter fun all around at Falls Creek and in the valley this long weekend, with our extensive guide of events and activities! 22.01.2022 This week, we think a lot of people need to stop what they're doing, reach their right arm up above their head, bend their elbow and give themselves a big ol' pat on the back for a job well done! We have so many stories in our latest edition of people putting in the serious hard yards and it finally paying off with incredible achievements, and it really is inspiring reading all about it. From the 1800+ riders who took part in the Peaks Challenge and completed the gruelling 23...5km course, to the 10 fellas who rode from Fed Square in Melbourne to Mount McKay to raise an unbelievable amount to help support Steve Lee, to Diane Edmondson finally launching her extremely well received book, 'Below Bogong' (and reuniting dozens of old friends in the process) - we have seen so many achievements that prove when you put in the effort, great things can happen. In our latest edition, not one, but two record breaking events for Falls Creek with the Peaks Challenge and the Longest Lunch, fighting back for Steve Lee, a very special Bogong book launch attracts hundreds, and more! Pick up a copy from your favourite local business, or click below to read it online now!

21.01.2022 Mitch Cook is currently on his 14th lap of Tawonga Gap, with seven more to follow in his goal to ride the vertical height of Mt Everest, as well as two additional laps to take him to 10,000 vertical metres - all to raise money for men’s health, namely mental health. He’s been riding since 4am this morning, with around 5.5 hours to go! It is a huge effort, and one that deserves all of our support! If you have a few dollars to spare, please donate at https://au.movember.com/mospace/14259797.

15.01.2022 There is no doubt that this year has been one from hell! But we’re coping OK. We have missed our guests and there is every chance they have missed us! We here at the paper then though we might bring you some of the accommodation offers that were available in 1949, courtesy of the 1949 edition of Schuss Magazine the officia...l journal of the Ski Club of Victoria. 15.01.2022 Will you be taking the plunge this year? The Ice Plunge is taking place on the first day of winter, with this annual ritual seeing locals and visitors alike take a dip into the frigid waters of the Rocky Valley Lake. It’s a rite of passage for all locals and is generally considered mandatory for all new resort arrivals to participate. This traditional custom is performed as an offering to the snow gods to secure a bountiful winter season - and if there's a year we need a bou...ntiful winter, it's definitely this one! In our latest edition, gearing up for the Mount Beauty Running Festival this weekend, getting ready to finally welcome winter, things are getting a little 'spooky' on stage, the Valley Fire Festival returns and more! 12.01.2022 Congratulations and well done to one of Mount Beauty’s most loved and longest serving nurses in the district. Sue Zeinert is metaphorically taking of her Nurses cap and comfortable shoes and packing up her fob watch to relax and take it easy for the first time in 40 years. You can read the whole article on Sue's achievement's in our latest edition. ... https://bit.ly/32CwMPk See more

11.01.2022 Something a little different for the front cover this week as we share some fantastic photos of our local birdlife captured by Ern Reeders - including one of our resident duck families. It's a common occurrence in Mount Beauty to find one car (or three!) at a complete standstill while they wait for a duck family to cross the road, and while it may slow you down a little, it's a testament to the caring nature of our whole community who consistently make the effort to let them ...cross safely. Even if you don't love the ducks, you can't argue that they're just one of the many small details that adds character to our valley and makes it the wonderful place that it is. While we're looking forward to being able to travel a little further than regional Victoria in the near future, we're sure we're not alone when we say there's no where else we'd rather be hibernating during a global pandemic than the beautiful Kiewa Valley. In our latest edition, a major fundraiser for Falls Creek legend, Steve Lee, delve into a spot of local birdwatching and learn what species to look out for, get to know our two new doctors in Mount Beauty, and plenty of local news and updates to top it off! Pick up a copy from your favourite local business, or click below to read it online now!

09.01.2022 Just when we thought we'd finally seen the end of winter - BOOM! Along comes one of the biggest overnight dumps of snow we've seen all year. Is it just us, or is 2020 really pulling out all the tricks? We're not only seeing snow at Falls Creek today, but a decent covering on Tawonga Gap, and a scattering over the smaller hills in the Kiewa Valley too. We're not sure whether to laugh or cry right now because at present, looking at it is pretty much all it's good for! Fortunate...ly, it is school holidays and that means regional Victorians can take advantage of the free resort entry, hire some chains from a local ski hire, grab a toboggan, get the kids rugged up and head up to Falls for some snow play and a hot meal at one of the many wonderful cafes and restaurants. It's still a wonderful day out for the whole family. Just don't get caught up staring sadly at your skis for too long... In our latest edition, this winter just keeps getting weirder, a young local prepares for the ride of his life for mental health, we say goodbye to Nurse Sue after 40 years, race club wrap-up for 2020, and more! Pick up a copy from your favourite local business, or click below to read it online now.

09.01.2022 No matter how many times autumn rolls around, we'll never not be amazed by the stunning autumn colours we're enjoying in the valley right now. Every direction you look, you're greeted by vibrant reds, oranges and yellows, reminding us why the Alpine region is such a popular destination this time of the year and - thanks to the current climate - has been busier than ever in 2021. A big kudos to all our small businesses who have gone from lockdown in 2020 to facing one of the b...usiest years yet. In fact, tourism spending in regional Victoria has beaten Melbourne for the first time ever, and there's been very little downtime for our local businesses who are trying their best to keep up with demand. As we head into the busy winter period, just a reminder to always be patient and pleasant when times get busy - we're all doing our best, and appreciate your understanding. In our latest edition, Anzac Day celebrated in the valley, all the results from the Alpine Challenge, the Trade Fair at Falls Creek is back for 2021, a new boost for our local L2P program, and more! Pick up a copy from your favourite local business, or click below to read it online now!

08.01.2022 "Well, as far as seasons go, in fact as far as the year 2020 goes, it can now finally be formally recognised as a ‘shocker’ (note: insert your word/expletive of choice). 'Snowless Horribilis' has been confirmed, with only 1947 looking worse (on the data we can find); however, the current forecast is predicting a last minute insult of a snow front hitting the resort (as you are reading this) only adding insult to injury. Whatever the outcome, Winter 2020 is one to forget. "On... that note, October 4th marks the end of the 2020 ski season." Read the full wrap-up from Falls Creek Resort Management CEO, Stuart Smythe, in our latest edition. https://bit.ly/32CwMPk Chris Hocking

05.01.2022 REVISED EDITION! We realised after sending out our latest version that one of our candidate's answers hadn't been included by mistake. We've now re-issued the edition both electronically and in print with all the candidates responses that were sent to us and apologise for any inconvenience caused.... 05.01.2022 Winter is finally here for another year! It's not just on the calendar either - the weather has most certainly shown us winter has arrived, and the sprinkling of the snow on the mountains just in time for opening weekend has been a beautiful sight for sore eyes. Although you might be feeling a little disappointed that opening weekend has been hijacked by yet another lockdown for the second year in a row, rest assured everyone on the mountain has their fingers and toes crossed... that our Melbourne friends will be welcomed back with wide arms and lots of snow by next weekend and all winter long. For those who are at Falls this weekend, enjoy the festivities (and make up for last year!) and if you manage to get out on the slopes for a few runs - even better! In our latest edition, welcome to winter for 2021! Read a welcome message from Falls Creek Resort Management CEO, a local business opportunity hits the market, a recap from the Running Festival, major improvements to Bogong High Plains Road, and more! Pick up a copy from your favourite local business, or click below to read it online now.

02.01.2022 In November this year, Mitch Cook will notch up 8,848m vertical height on his bike - the equivalent of Mount Everest - in one go, meaning he'll ride to Tawonga Gap and back down not once, not twice, but NINETEEN times, all to raise money for mental health. We think that deserves a seriously good donation and encourage everyone to dig deep and support such an important cause. You can get all the details, and find out why Mitch has decided to take on the ride of his life, in ou...r latest edition. https://bit.ly/32CwMPk And don't forget to donate here! https://movember.com/m/14259797?mc=1

01.01.2022 "Usually at this time of year we’d all be rejoicing in the option of Race Club’s Spring Skiing Camp, or the ability to simply free ski and ride with our kids and friends enjoying the last weeks of snow before the lifts get turned off at the end of the season. "However, as we all know, 2020 is no usual year." In our latest edition, read Nyree from Falls Creek Race Club's wrap up of the season that...wasn't. ... https://bit.ly/32CwMPk See more
