22.01.2022 Only 49 hours left! Voting closes 6pm Friday In 2016 my campaign lasted for over 12 months. Fast forward to 2020 and the last 4 months have flown by ... One of the things I’ve reminded myself during my campaigns: Don’t get caught up in the politics and try and enjoy every minute of it and that I have. Some of you may not know but there's a few new fantastic eateries that have popped up in the CBD while you've been behaving and staying at home. Magnolia Lane... Tageskarte Adam and Eve (second location) Bluebird Patisserie Kami Bendigo In addition to the new kids on the block, there are plenty of your favourites who have undergone facelifts and menu changes. 21.01.2022 Moving forward with CHANGE 2020 has been a mammoth year and unfortunately not for good reasons. Our community has felt the impact of this year and are ready to move on. But we can’t yet. But there is hope. ... Talking to businesses; they have learnt, adapted and are now looking how to evolve their workplaces. The reality check of our priorities has come and gone and it’s great to hear residents change their priorities back to their health and finances and staying connected to loved ones. This is a great opportunity for our city to experience some change too. Let’s... Reconnect with the community. Re-evaluate our priorities and let our time and money emphasise these priorities. But what about our Leadership? What change can I bring? 2020 interaction - as you may have noticed, I’m very active on the socials. Why? Because many of you are too! But it won’t stop there. Face to face is where personal connection is made and that’s where I thrive. No bullshit - I won’t get too caught up with being politically correct. I’ll just focus on being kind, honest and genuine. That’s what I value. Engaged and involved - I’d love to attend your events but I won’t need an invite for you to see me there. My spare time is currently spent in the community and that won’t change. Relevant - I represent a generation that have gone unheard for a long time at the council table. CHANGE - There is a time for calm, a time for restraint. 20.01.2022 Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! Covid or no Covid, Bendigo need jobs!... Bendigo is projected to grow by another 35,000 residents by 2036 but we need to ensure that growth is healthy by ensuring each and every one of those 35,000 has an opportunity to work. (Projections from 2019) In March this year, Bendigo's unemployment rate was at 4.6%. Whats worse is the the Bendigo regions unemployment rate for youth was 18.3% In the post Covid era, we need to be focusing on our local economy and what our residents need. 19.01.2022 What’s your silver lining? 2020 hasn’t really gone to plan but that’s no reason to lose hope. Even in the darkness, we search for the light to find our way out.... So, what’s your silver lining from 2020? Mine, it’s one of the first times in the last 15 years my life hasn’t been full of commitments. 19.01.2022 WHAT DO YOU THINK? Should political parties be associated with Local Government? A lot of people have been asking "which political party do I belong to? Are you an independent or are you affiliated/endorsed? Who do you vote for in State and Federal?"... My thoughts: I'm an Independent candidate I believe there is no place for State and Federal politics in Local Government. Our community should be dictating the direction Greater Bendigo takes, not political parties. And when I vote in State and Federal elections, I'm a swing voter. I review their leadership, their party policies and most importantly how they plan to support Greater Bendigo. 17.01.2022 What do you love but Bendigo doesn’t have? I’ll be honest, I love Bendigo. From it’s open spaces to the little laneways . The range of events and diverse culture . It’s sporting clubs and the people that fill the pubs . I love it ... ....but we can always make it better. 16.01.2022 A question I know every committee asks it’s members. Anyone know how to write a submission for grants? 2020 has stifled our volunteer organisations ability to fundraise and when you consider the work they do with such little, stimulating these groups can have a big flow on effect to our community. This event is a great chance to up skill someone and increase the chance of that easy money grants provide!... 15.01.2022 Hard rubbish collection. Do we need it? WHAT DO YOU THINK? Our landfill sites fees increased mid-year and are expected to again at years end.... Illegal dumping is continuing to increase in our parks and reserves Do you think it will actually fix these issues? Do you think we need it but it’s not necessarily a priority? What are other things that should be considered? If the city provided this service; How often should it happen? Should limits apply? Do we need to include guidelines and compliance measures to ensure we don’t have clutter on our nature strips constantly? 09.01.2022 I popped past the Eaglehawk Community House yesterday for a chat and they roped me into cooking a cake hopefully everyone has survived the experience It was a great opportunity. We got to talk shop and I now better understand what they achieve in this space. But more importantly I got to put words aside for some time and put some action in place to make a difference. ... 06.01.2022 A big THANK YOU to Hit91.9 Bendigo and the old Star FM!! Today Southern Cross Austereo announced that Hit 91.9 Bendigo would become redundant and we would be losing one of our local morning radio shows. I feel for the staff that have lost their job but I also feel for our community who have lost a great asset. ... This evening I've spent time reflecting on the impact the station and its presenters have had on our community and I've been overwhelmed thinking of the service they have provided us over many years in Bendigo. I've also personally had the opportunity to work with the station in many ways and would love to celebrate their positive impact they've had on me. Some of my highlights: Numerous Bendigo Easter Festival parades Promotion of Seeing Eye Dogs Bendigo Health Children Ward visits Raising money for Give Me 5 For Kids Promotion of local businesses Shish Lnc and Babylon Lounge and Garden Bar Support of the Bendigo Dragons My daily lol's and music They even set me up on a blind date live on radio Mornings will never be the same. The results wont be known until Declaration Day but the VEC are yet to determine when this will be. (However it’s likely to be the 5th or 6th of November) So for now, here are a few words of thanks Thanks to all the voters. Local Government is still an unknown for many and the more people that vote, the more they’re informed, the more they care; the better off our community is. Thanks to all the other candidates for putting their hand up in the Whipstick Ward. It’s great to see so many who care enough to be apart of the solution. A big thanks that most candidates didn’t release ‘how to vote’ cards. The residents want to remove the politics and have us focus on the people and I think this happening was a great step for Greater Bendigo And obviously thanks to those who have helped behind the scenes however I’ll save that thanks for when I see you next. 05.01.2022 Rural Communities Did you know that the Whipstick Ward also includes Avonmore, Bagshot, Bagshot North, Barnadown, Drummartin, Elmore, Fosterville, Goornong, Hunter, Huntly, Huntly North, Kamarooka, Neilborough, Raywood, Sebastian, Wellsford, Whipstick and Woodvale? Some of you may never have heard of a few of these localities and that’s how some of these communities feel. They feel forgotten.... What I love about them is that they focus on the little things. The things that support their communities and keep them connected. Safe roads More footpaths Basic amenities Town plans and community hubs Rate evaluations that reflect rural budget allocations Other regional cities such as Geelong and Ballarat don’t have the governing area that we do but that’s what I love about Greater Bendigo. We are greater than just Bendigo. Do you live rurally? How do you want to be supported? We have a good phrase; Bendigo: The city within a forest But here’s a better one; Greater Bendigo: Where city meets country

02.01.2022 Have you voted yet? Aside from declaration day, the pictured moment is the only time I really get nervous. I feel like I’m entering a tri-wizard tournament of some kind haha! REMEMBER... Voting is Compulsory. Don’t risk getting a fine! Voting closes at 6pm on Friday the 23rd of October. Better mail it back sooner than later so you don’t forget (and get fined ) Although October 24th is ‘election day’, we’re not likely to know the result until the 5th or 6th of November (declaration date yet to be decided) When voting, remember to put a number in every box! And double check you haven’t used the same number twice Every vote DOES count. I learnt that cruel lesson in 2016 And of course #vote1prince When voting, if you’re not sure then do your research.
