24.01.2022 Thomas 2 & 3, gotta be happy with that!

24.01.2022 Thomas Takes Out The Season Opener! Official Release: NSW Wingless Sprints 1st October 2019... Last Saturday night it was Dean Thomas who walked away with the win. In what ended up an exciting finish to the 25 lap race, Dean came from position 9 to capitalise on a late race restart to snare the win from current NSW Club Champion Jason Bates. Bates had a handy lead, until a restart with 10 to go brought the field back together. Thomas took full advantage of the restart, with both drivers battling it out in some exciting racing before Thomas took the eventual the lead. Rounding out the podium was Troy Little in third place. The regular USC Sprintcar star took the wing off this week to join the Wingless ranks for some action. He didn’t disappoint, again capitalising on the race restart to advance forward for the podium finish. Ashleigh Jack finished 4th. Just missing out on the podium, she was in contention for a podium for the majority of the race, but a little mistake proved costly, especially in such a closely competitive field. There’s no doubt she will feature regularly up the front of field in what looks to be another promising season for Jack. Michael Sammut finished an impressive 5th. The experienced racer held his own and looked fast all night to come away with a top 5 finish. Marshall Blyton followed across the line in 6th, followed by Luke Sayre, Mitchell O’Brien, Nathan Dicker and Mark Blyton rounded out the top 10. Zac Pacchiarotta finished 11th, then Kyle Mock, Jeff Thomas, Leighton O’Brien, Andrew Sayre, Kyle Ionn, Robert Mazzer, Cody Boulding, Nick Tatnell and John McRae was the last of the finishers. Non finishers were Graham Flood, Jarrad Rust, Jamie Dicker and Dylan Williams. There was heartbreak for Rust, while sitting in 3rd position, he experienced a motor issue and was forced to pull off. Great drives by both Mitchell and Leighton O’brien with solid finishes in the A Main. So too Kyle Ionn who put together great heat racing gaining him a direct transfer to the A Main. The B Mains were won by Jamie Dicker and Andrew Sayre. B Main 2 was marred by a spectacular crash by Wayne Frkovic. After having no where to go and colliding with another car at the top of turns 3 and 4, he flipped a couple of times and fortunately emerged unhurt. Heat race wins went to: Troy Little Robert Mazzer Leighton O’Brien Dean Thomas Kyle Ionn Jamie Dicker Jeff Thomas Jason Bates Ashleigh Jack Zac Pacchiarotta Top Pointscorer for the night was Zac Pacchiarotta. Three drivers were tied on points for the top spot, but when referring back to lap times to split the group, Zac was awarded to top points position, which saw him draw a 6 inversion. With so many cars, close racing and such tough competition, good results in heat races are vital to qualify directly into the A Main. With such a strong field of almost 60 cars for the opening night of our 2019/2020 NSW Championship, we are excited for the season ahead. This Saturday October 5th, sees another big field of Wingless cars ready to let loose at Valvoline Raceway for the 2nd round of the NSW championship. With another big field, who will finish on the top step this week? End. Photo Credit: Gary Reid
