17.01.2022 I have been invited by Gary Somerville from BAAS Bookkeeping to sit in on an online webinar today. Gary is a BAS Agent and Bookkeeper. Along with the team at BAAS Bookkeeping, he has been working through the different support packages and other incentives available to businesses. His aim in running this free webinar is to provide business owners with greater clarity, and to share as much knowledge as possible about what is fact, and what is not. He also will be aiming to provide tips for business owners in how best to manage their financial reporting at this time, so you can make decisions about the future of your businesses with the right numbers. I will be available to give further insight from a Tax Accountant perspective, and will be able to provide more detail regarding some of the EOFY tax implications.

09.01.2022 THURSDAY INSPIRATION! Did you know that an accountant invented bubblegum? Walter Diemer was working as an accountant at Fleer in 1926. Fleer had previously made a batch of bubble gum in 1906 called "Blibber Blubber", but it was too sticky and easily broke. Although an accountant, Diemer toyed with gum recipes in his spare time and discovered the recipe for a gum that stretched easily and wouldnt stick to the face. Like Walter, keep working, keep dreaming and always put your... gum in the bin. #accountantsarecool #bubbletrouble #brisbaneaccounting

02.01.2022 Ask Away With Thomas Gray - Business & Tax Advisor Q: Is my AirBNB income tax free? A: No! In fact, the Australian Taxation Office last year announced a data-matching program for online accommodation platforms that enable members of the public to book and pay for accommodation services, as well as via financial institutions, who handle the payment for the online platform providers. ... Data-matching gives the ATO access to: - listing owners name and contact details - bank account, payee name, BSB, account number date and amount of payment. - Property details and activities - gross rental income fees and commissions charged - listing dates - nights booked - price per night Data matching aims to capture non-disclosed income, but the hidden trap is Capital Gains Tax (CGT). If a taxpayer is renting out all, or part of their residence under an Airbnb type Share Accommodation type system, there will need to apportion CGT any capital gains when that residence is sold and the exemption for a principal private residence from CGT will be adversely affected. If you have undisclosed past income, you should urgently seek tax advice. #incometax #capitalgainstax #brisbaneaccountant
