Roundtower have been manufacturing lime putty (non hydraulic lime) since 1999, initially for the restoration of Cor Castle.... Although traditionally this type of mortar was used internally and externally, today it is generally used for internal plasterwork & cornice etc, pointing, bedding and renders in sheltered areas. Roundtower lime putty has been allowed to mature for at least 1 year before being tubbed into 20kg tubs. Storing the lime putty in airtight containers allows the putty to mature and any un-slaked particles will have sufficient time to slake. The longer the putty is allowed to mature the better the finished product. Traditionally in Italy the best quality work was carried out using lime putty allowed to mature for generations. 03.01.2022 Quick Recap: Restoration Job Using Roundtower Thor Helical Australia Supply Natural Hydraulic Lime for a project in Victoria. We used Roundtower NHL to restore a double fireplace/chimney and the top part of a quad chimney, and are working through repointing of stonework at the moment.... The brickies are very satisfied with the product. We tested it before building with clean fine river sand but couldnt get it to bind properly. Rather than trying plasticisers we tried standard white bricklayer sand that has a small clay content and that worked very well. The mix is 1 part NHL to 2.5 parts sand and close to 1 part water depending on conditions. 01.01.2022 Natural Hydraulic Lime Mortar (NHL) Natural hydraulic limes (NHLs) differ from non-hydraulic limes in that they have a chemical set as well as the process of carbonation. The limestones from which NHLs are formed, naturally contain a varied range of minerals of which silica and alumina are the main ones for creating NHL. When these limestones are heated in the kiln, the resulting lime has different properties. The burning process produces calcium oxide and calcium silicates... and calcium aluminates. The resulting material is ground, hydrated and carefully packaged.
