20.01.2022 If you are sick of having our amazing city run by developers, interested only in lining their own pockets, then share this story. Wagga has in my opinion stagnated because for too long it has been in the control of developers. Wagga can be a leader in a number of fields and it has a natural advantage - the Murrumbidgee which can be an exciting focal point for locals and visitors. We are also a melting pot with many wonderful families from around the world settling here, pr...oviding the perfect opportunity to create a very rich regional culture that is unique to Wagga. Wagga is ripe for exciting changes, which will not eventuate if we continue to allow developers to run this city. It is time for a change but it is up to us to make that change happen.

16.01.2022 CONKEY CRIES FOUL: I AM A VICTIM Wagga Mayoy Greg Conkey in the weekend councillor column, has claimed that he is the victim of some very personal attacks... and also stated that the residents of North Wagga failed to provide Council with an investigative report into Wagga City Council, rather, it was provided directly to the media Mr Conkey wrote. It has since been revealed that Clr Conkey’s comments and column is not correct. It has been confirmed that the report was sent to Wagga City Council for tabling, a week before Clr Conkey’s claims, however Council refused to permit the report to be tabled and enshrined the document into confidentiality from the public. Council General Manager Peter Thompson confirmed that the report has been forwarded to the Office of Local Government in contradiction to Clr Conkey’s statement. Clr Conkey claimed that it is a NSW State Government process to decide the fate of North Wagga residents. Investigations by Wagga Free Local News reveal that it is a decision of Wagga City Council, not the State Government. The process for the Government is in relation to funding and regulatory matters. Clr Conkey goes on to state that the timing of this report is interesting as there is a Mayoral election in two month’s time. A number of residents of North Wagga were infuriated and felt bullied and intimidated by Conkey’s comments, as they stated that ‘the Mayor is elected by councillors, not us the ratepayers’. The comments within Clr Conkey’s column has further infuriated many local residents, particularly when it comes on the back of previous statements as far back as December 2017 where Conkey stated, people of North Wagga live on a flood plain, when they bought those properties they realised it was on a flood plain and they had limited protection over there. A number of residents have responded stating that they lived in North Wagga before the main city levee was built which has resulted in the inundation of North Wagga. It has further been claimed that Clr Conkey used the column in an attempt to protect his long term ally and fellow councillor, former Mayor Rod Kendall. Clr Kendall, currently serving on council, is extensively named in the report for non-disclosure of pecuniary interests on at least 40 occasions. It is claimed that Clr Conkey ‘jumped the queue to get his column out this week in response to the report, and has intentionally attempted to deflect the raft of issues that have surfaced under his leadership, and make North Wagga residents the villains.

14.01.2022 Our new Keto Breaky is on the weekend menu. I made this up for myself while doing the ketogenic diet. I have always wanted to let you try it. It is the most ridiculously delicious dish I have ever had and I still love it - it is a soft poached egg on a bed of yummy salad of mixed crispy lettuce, crispy bacon pieces, coriander, parsley & mint, sprinkled with feta, salad onion and lemon. The secret is the herbs. You feel full and fresh eating it. Hope you like it. We also have some new stuff for the kids.

12.01.2022 Sorry guys we need to close this Sunday to complete the last major renovations. This means we will be able to serve from the front room again Thank you again for your support

11.01.2022 Short on time? Order through the Bopple app. There is always a parking spot close by on Thorne or Forsyth, so there is no need to stress about that either. Too easy!!

11.01.2022 We are open until we are locked down and our entire menu has always been take awayable!!! I'm not sure how quiet or busy it will be, but I know you will be understanding about any modifications we might have to quickly make, having limited staff. We request that you wait on the markings provided on the footpath and apply the social distancing rules. No more than one person can be in the shop at one time (the 4sqm rule). When u pay with EFTPOS please do not touch the eftpos m...achine. It works perfectly well when your card is waved over it. Please save your cash and use eftpos so we don't have to run off and wash our hands. A huge thank you too, to all those lovely customers who I know are deliberately buying up food and drinks in support. It really is keeping my spirits up. I'm literally in the cafe on my own now except when I have EJ or Lachie helping me in the mornings. It's weird but I love being there. So I am very very lucky. We might see you over the weekend. Take care. Fi Ziff

05.01.2022 Urgent message to all customers - I need to seriously consider whether or not to close the doors, and the decision depends on the needs of my customers. Legally Thorne St Cafe can trade, which means legally you can continue to buy coffees and food. I can survive selling just coffees and basic food, but I need enough customers to justify keeping the doors open. ... I am happy to close the doors indefinitely, but if you can afford to continue to buy coffees and want Thorne St Cafe to stay open, you need to continue ordering. It really is up to the customers whether Thorne St remains open or it closes. So let's see what happens over the next week. I will be in touch then. Fi Ziff

Seeing as he already has plenty of facial hair and an impressive Mo, he has decided to shave his beloved beard off for Movember. So get behind him and donate to this cause that is very close to our hearts. #movember #menshealth

03.01.2022 Certain Councillors think it is ok to modify the planning laws for Wagga's conservation (heritage) area in order to allow the construction of a commercial/residential building in Morgan St that is higher than the hospital's latest addition - 35m high. Not only will it look completely ridiculous, but it will create undue shadowing for many residents, will spoil the skyline and cause absurd traffic congestion. These moronic decisions need to be thwarted. If u agree, please share with your friends and comment accordingly.

03.01.2022 You need to know about this and u may want to sign this petition. http://chng.it/sgqMQMFKBQ There is a 32m high development earmarked for Central, on land bound by Morgan, Forsyth & Docker.... This is 4m higher than the new addition to the hospital that is currently under construction. Try to imagine the overshadowing (loss of sunlight) brought about for the surrounding homes as well as the serious loss of privacy. Also try to imagine the ugliness of such a building which will destroy what is currently a lovely skyline full of blue sky in an area that predominantly comprises residential homes. Then add to this the traffic congestion and lack of parking for occupants and visitors. If we wanted to live like this in ghettos we would be living in Sydney. Who do u think this development benefits? It is clearly not the community. As a nearby Cafe owner I would imagine that such a development could be good for business. But as a community minded person I reject it. There is absolutely no justification for such a development in Wagga. Sydney and Melbourne learnt the hard way realising all too late about the importance of open green spaces and lots of blue sky in cities. This development will set a precedent for the rest of Central. It should be built in our CBD or the satellite suburbs. Not Central. Sign the petition if u would like to preserve the character that is Wagga - a stunning city with lots of green as paces, blue sky and is easy to get from one suburb to the next.

02.01.2022 A quick reminder that Thorne St Cafe will be closed tomorrow. We look forward to serving you again on Monday at 8.30am.

01.01.2022 Only the best here at Thorne St. We love supporting local buying direct from Riverina Fresh & small business Symmetry Coffee Roasters . #buylocal #buysmall
