12.01.2022 "Anupam's notes" for July 1st meeting - use hyperbole to help with your Table Topics answers ... change up the way you answer topics, don't need to take the literal approach. 10.01.2022 Continuing on Anupam's notes (or words of wisdom from our illustrious President!) Try this format in your speaking ... - build suspense by making a pledge to the audience - the turn, something bad happens, the audience is invested with the emotion of the event... - the prestige - the audience says well done Want to see more, then visit us on 1st and 3rd Monday evenings, 7 for 7.15pm.

05.01.2022 Want to know how to map out your speech, it's all very simple. At last night's meeting of Thornleigh Toastmasters - John showed us how to mind map a speech. Write down 3 potential speech topics on a page - transfer your favourite into the circle below. Now ... all around the circle write as many things as you can think of about this topic.... Pick the top 3 - that best sell or describe your story. This gives you the basic structure for a speech - the topic, and the 3 points that make up the body. All speakers mapped a speech and presented a 2-3 minute impromptu speech last night - congratulations. Next meeting is Monday 5th September at 7pm.
04.01.2022 Creative Table Topics at Thornleigh Toastmasters - door to door sales!!!! Items sold included a robotic lawn mower, a trip to mars, electric bike, a magic lamp and a new electricity plan.
01.01.2022 Last Monday's meeting heralded a unique Table Topics session ... we all debated the benefit of the Olympics. In a round table format, speakers took turns to speak or and against. In the second round, we reversed our arguments - a good challenge! Our meeting also included a persuasive speech on BECOMING VEGAN, and an educational on EVALUATION. Who knows what will happen at the next meeting????... Come along on Monday 19th September, 7pm to find out.
01.01.2022 We have a superstar in our midst (of course we all knew that but now he's got the trophy to prove it). On Saturday night at the District 70 Change Over Dinner, John Inglis was awarded the Toastmaster of the Year Award. Recipients of this award are nominated by their peers, and all nominees are reviewed by the District Policy Committee (senior leaders) and selected based on contributions to club, district and Toastmasters; their own achievements; involvement and attendance of ...functions outside of clubs; and are Toastmasters who we all look up to! Almost any Toastmasters within the more than 300 clubs in NSW/ACT are eligible (it's just the senior leaders who cannot vote for themselves), so this is a tremendous achievement. So proud to see John achieve this award. Congratulations and so richly deserved.
