21.01.2022 In recent months we have seen an increase in house fires in CFA areas and sadly across the state, six lives have been lost. CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria are asking all Victorians to know their risks and be prepared when it comes to fire safety around the home.

15.01.2022 CFA has received a number of calls from community members regarding bonfires to mark the ‘Spark in the Dark’ event this evening. We appreciate those who are tha...nking our frontline workers, but urge you to keep fire safety front of mind. As today’s conditions are windy in some areas we are urging those who wish to participate to not do so by lighting bonfires or using fire pits. If you are choosing to light a candle, please ensure it is monitored by an adult and extinguished properly. You might like to mark the event by using a torch or outside light. Thank you and stay safe.

14.01.2022 When faced with incredible challenges, we fought together. When tragedy struck, we mourned as one. Today is International Firefighter’s Day and we remember all... those who have fallen in the line of duty. We will not forget the 79 CFA members who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and the devastating loss of nine firefighters during the 2019/20 Australian fires. Please take a moment today to reflect on the sacrifices made by firefighters every day of the year when protecting the lives and properties of their communities. 14.01.2022 As Victorians start to take advantage of warmer weather and eased restrictions, we must remember to stay vigilant. More than a quarter of bushfires are started ...by escaped private fires, such as burn-offs or campfires Always check restrictions before lighting any type of fire, ensure you have adequate water on hand and make sure your fire is extinguished properly. It’s your responsibility to plan and prepare for fire

12.01.2022 Thornton brigade also called to these Very good info from Eildon Brigade

09.01.2022 It’s important to check the weather before burning off, not just the day of your burn but the days thereafter and to make sure your burn is properly exti...nguished. Yesterday's fire at Main Ridge is one of several that are crews have recently attended after windy conditions caused burn-offs to flare up several days and even weeks after the original burn-off. Make sure you always register your burn-off with ESTA, on 1800 668 511 Let your neighbours know you are burning off Ensure it is always supervised by an adult Ben Wain - Main Ridge Fire 7 September

07.01.2022 You probably check your navel for lint regularly but unlike the dryer it wont start a fire.

07.01.2022 CFA is proud to stand with millions of Victorians masking up to keep themselves and their communities safe. Our firefighters from Kilmore Fire Brigade have join...ed our Victorian partner agencies to spread the word and show that we are all in this together. Created by the Australian Federal Police Southern Command Community Liaison Team, the COVID mask will be doing the rounds on vehicles across Melbourne. See where it goes next and share your masked selfies with us using the hashtags #MaskUpVictoria #MaskUpMelbourne

07.01.2022 A Dozen ways to Prepare Your Property It's getting warmer and the Fire Danger Ratings are getting up across the State. The Shire of Murrindindi are in the pro...cess of issuing Fire Prevention Notices for properties in and around Buxton. Under Section 41 of the CFA Act, in the country area of Victoria, the fire prevention officer of a municipal council may serve a fire prevention notice on the owner or occupier of land in the municipal district of that council... in respect of anything (a) on that land, other than a building or in a building; [or] (b) on the adjacent half width of any private street that abuts that land... that by its nature, composition, condition or location constitutes or may constitute a danger to life or property from the threat of fire. Members of the brigade are available to undertake a Property Advice Visit, albeit virtually at present, to help property owners or occupants get ready for Summer. Email us at [email protected] for more info. Publications and advice are available on the CFA website at https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare The twelve things to consider are: Mature trees can help shield against radiant heat and embers. They must be strategically located and well managed. Remove flammable items from decks and verandahs, such as boxes, furniture and doormats. Keep woodpiles away from the house or other significant buildings. Stray fire embers can easily ignite woodpiles. Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Store flammable liquids away from the house or othersignificantbuildings. Where possible, store in flame proof containers. Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath and prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. Do not have large shrubs next to or under windows. Use pebbles and rocks in your garden (not flammable mulch). Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Arrange a Property Advice Visit from CFA.

03.01.2022 Have you given your electrical appliances and smoke alarms any thought lately? Here are some of our North East Region Volunteers to give you some handy tips.

02.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Ko...ala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is a ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels. Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space.
