25.01.2022 The Thorpdale Potato Festival has become another casualty of COVID-19 with organisers announcing that next years biennial community event has been cancelled. F...estival marketing officer Barbara Butterworth said it was not an easy decision for the committee to make after considerable debate. She said the "rejuvenated, re-invigorated and completely refreshed" festival was cancelled after considering health and welfare, sponsors, community and hardship caused by the pandemic. Ms Butterworth said organisers hoped the festival would "bounce back" in March 2022, on the Sunday of the Labour day long weekend, "with much more to tempt people from far and wide". See more

24.01.2022 From a few weeks ago. Sorry for not posting earlier. Wonderful to see a Thorpy business getting closer to being back in action. Hi to all the Travellers Rest Hotel supporters! Firstly I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. I am Adrian and will be managing the pub.... I have recently moved to the local area and I very much look forward to meeting you all. We are very excited to let you all know that we are doing some small renovations, and you will definitely see some activity in the next few weeks. There will be a slight change in colour scheme, a great new beer garden and the back deck will also have a makeover. Our hope is to the have pub open by the end of November and open the restaurant and accommodation in stages. Please look out for our updates here or on our website. www.travellersresthotel.com We look forward to continuing the legacy of the Bantock family and thank Ock and Lisa for all their help in this transition. Cheers for now. See more
23.01.2022 Enjoy an extra hour in bed everyone.
21.01.2022 We may be returning to training in small groups shortly, which is exciting, but there is still a lot of uncertainty about the season and when it may commence. T...here still are some things that the club is doing to make sure that we are positioned the best we can be for whatever decision is made in regards to the season. One of those things is to go ahead with our big raffle for the season The Blue Circle Draw: 100 x $50 tickets with the chance to win $1000, the first 5 numbers out will win $100. It is drawn on 25/07/20 and if we cannot gather at that time we will be videoing the draw live. There are still a few tickets left so please contact Heather Martin if you would like one on 0428254688. Thank you and the club hopes everyone is doing well during these tough times! See more

20.01.2022 Sport Survival Grants Available I am encouraging local sporting clubs and associations to apply for COVID-19 sport survival grants to... help with operational costs. The Community Sport Sector Short-term Survival Package is open for application now. Its been really hard for our community clubs and associations during the coronavirus pandemic no games, no competitions, no canteen, no gate takings, no raffles, no social events. Community sport enriches the lives of so many people, socially, mentally, physically. It is paramount our wonderful clubs and associations survive beyond the current coronavirus pandemic. Grants are available in four tiers. For all information on grant guidelines and applications visit Sport and Recreation Victorias website https://sport.vic.gov.au//community-sport-sector-coronavir Grants applications close on 15 June 2020. If your sporting club needs any assistance or has any questions please contact me or a member of my team on [email protected] or telephone (03) 5174 7066. Feel free to tag all the local sporting associations & clubs in Gippsland to alert them to this opportunity. I cant wait to see you all back on the field, track, or court doing what you you all do best! 19.01.2022 Help! Please share! Yesterday parents and families of Thorpdale Kinder received an email from YMCA advising that effective from today (17 Sept) the kinder would be relocating to Traf. There was ZERO consultation with parents or the community, this was completely out of the blue. After enduring covid restrictions and remote learning, Thorpy kids and their families are now displaced and expected to travel to Traf for kinder services when the new Traf centre opens sometime in t...erm 4. The YMCA claims the current facility is unsafe, which is not the case. YMCA refer to the need for some upgrades to occur and a look to reopen in their email however when questioned it is apparent that there are no plans in place for an upgrade at all. They advised that a purpose built building on a new site would be required in order to reopen. This could take years, even if there were real plans in place. Moving to Traf would have huge impact on Thorpdales future with a detrimental affect on kinder numbers and subsequently the school. The Thorpy Kinder PAG (Patent Advisory Group) have created a Save Our Thorpdale Kinder page in Facebook, and an online petition. Please support the PAGs endeavours to fight this ludicrous decision and keep the Kinder in Thorpy where it belongs. Dont stay quiet! Sign the petition and share it through your networks, along with the new page. Save our Kinder! **Save Our Thorpdale Kinder page https://www.facebook.com/Save-Our-Thorpdale-Kinder-107466737775377/ **Petition https://www.change.org/p/department-of-education-keep-the-t

07.01.2022 Thorpdale Swimming Pool Committee held its AGM last night an elected the following office bearers: President - Tash Hammond Secretary - Ian Murphy Treasurer - Jon Marsh... Committee members - Sharmaine McQualter and Sonja Perrin Chandelle Brien-Boothy stepped down from Treasurer due to an impending intestate move but huge thanks to her for her commitment the last few years. Thanks to our office bearers and committee members for their continued dedication to this committee. As previously advised installing solar heating at the pool unfortunately isn't a viable option so our focus has changed and we are currently in negotiation with the Shire regarding a proposal from the committee to fund free entry to the pool for this season. Stay tuned....
