25.01.2022 Happening in Thorpdale March 13th & 14th March !!

22.01.2022 Extract from the Thorpdale Community News, March 2021 2023 Potato Festival... At the meeting of the Festival Committee (not very well attended unfortunately), it was overwhelmingly decided to hold the next Thorpdale Potato Festival in 2023. It was an easy decision to make but on the other hand it was a very disappointing decision. We discussed the likelihood of the return to some ‘normality’ in all areas such as small and large businesses which meant employment and therefore spending ability; the government ability to call immediate lockdowns until end of 2021 and the possibility of a further 12-month extension on this power and the ramification if we were at the sharp end of our planning for a ‘22 Festival and last, but definitely not least, the ability of major sponsors to provide the funds we would require to run the Festival. However, in the meantime, we have pinpointed several areas of the Festival which we feel need some detailed planning and upgrading and it has been decided to focus on these specific areas, having bi-monthly meetings going forward. We are planning on updating our Applications process through our website which will be undergoing a revamp as well; doing some research into the Hessians on the Field; a spectacular new attraction (more on that as the months go on); some work on the potato-picking comps and it goes on. Of course, one of the things we will always be looking for is to see community group members at these committee meetings as your groups have been greatly assisted by the Festival in the past and will want to be assisted in future. One of the requirements of receiving a grant from the Festival was that a report was to be given showing how the funds had been spent, including receipts etc. This requirement has not been met by the majority of community groups which is very disappointing. It is not too late to get your report in to the President/Treasurer, Keith Hulbert - [email protected] and it would stand you in good stead next time.

21.01.2022 In the week or so since our 2019 festival, we have had an overwhelming amount of feedback, kind praises, amazing photos with Happy faces. A very big THANK YOU to everyone that was involved from the committee, the helpers, the community, the sponsor’s and everyone who attended on the day, to celebrate the humble spud.

04.01.2022 URGENT - PLEASE HELP! As of yesterday morning, the Thorpdale community has been given ONE DAYS notice that today will be the last session at our beautiful kinder. The YMCA who facilitates our kinder program has made this decision with ZERO community consultation, citing 'due to the need to some upgrades' the kinder will be re-located to Trafalgar and 'will look to recommence the program in Thorpdale'. No information has been given about what these upgrades are, there are ...no planned works scheduled. Our kids will be sent away from our community and in all likelihood Thorpdale will lose its kindergarten facility, which is a beautiful green space full of wonderful resources and learning opportunities within our small town. Please sign our petition - stay tuned for more news today and in the coming days. We CAN keep our kinder in our community, but we need your help... https://www.change.org/p/department-of-education-keep-the-t See more
