20.01.2022 Looking beautiful around the lodge this morning!

17.01.2022 Power is also cancelled with a blackout affecting 3000 homes in the Jindabyne / Thredbo area. Also be advised of multiple road closures if you have any plans of travelling.

16.01.2022 The snow from last week’s storm has settled nicely across the main range and provided top to bottom skiing with most lifts now open at Thredbo and Perisher. Plenty of resort lift tickets and lodge rooms available if you can sneak in a mid week getaway.

14.01.2022 And driveway is now clear

03.01.2022 Be careful what you wish for! After a very slow start to the snow season, we had a huge snowfall on Monday - constant, heavy, wet snow. As a result the Lodge was actually snowed in. Two families staying weren't back at the Lodge before the driveway was shut and they had to leave their cars at the bottom of the driveway and Mick rescued them in his Amarok. Even so, he still needed to use the winch more than once to get back up to the Lodge! Mick said he has never seen anythin...g like it. The weight of the snow caused considerable damage. Trees and branches have fallen all over the place and most of the Lodge gutters have actually been pulled down! Giant slabs of snow were falling off the roof on a regular basis and Mick had to shovel it off the deck because of the sheer weight of snow. Because there was no power, there was no lighting, heating or running water. This, combined with the slabs of snow and the fact that the path to the Snowgums was feet deep in snow meant that it was decided it was safer for the four families staying there to camp in the lounge room rather than stay in their rooms. They quickly repurposed the snow outside as the new fridge and carried on cheerfully! Lake Crackenback very kindly provided a shower for everyone when the power was still not back on yesterday afternoon. The Council came up and cleared the driveway with their plow, which was much appreciated. The Lodge generator was pressed into use for the immediate priorities and Mark Glover brought his generators down for extra assistance as we were concerned the power might not be restored for another 48 hours. Fortunately, not 3 minutes after Mark arrived from Canberra, the power came back on! So well done to the local power companies for responding to such widespread damage so quickly. As always, Mick and Cath leapt into action to get the problem sorted, well-backed up by our Lodge Captain for the week. Thanks to everyone for their questions.
