21.01.2022 Dear Ms Palaszczuk, You don’t seem to be comprehending our message, it is a simple one, can you please grant an exemption for the boarding school children and p...arents from NSW to travel from our remote homes to our children’s schools in Qld. Our story is the same as everyone else’s, we come from a farm located in that other country called NSW yet we have chosen to send our children to boarding school in Qld, not NSW. The selection of which boarding school in what location a choice, however the necessity for them to go away for their high school education, not our choice due to our remote location. I also don’t think you appreciate that as a group of NSW families with children at schools in Qld, we are significant contributors to the Qld economy not just in school fees but most of our discretionary spending is naturally on our children and 9 times out of 10 this is spent in Qld. We are not a group of Hillbilly’s or Bogan’s from Logan who do not understand the significance of this pandemic and the necessity to keep Queensland’s safe. We need the economy to remain open so that our children’s school’s remain open. We cannot go back to home schooling with dodgy internet and social isolation. We just want, what I apparently mistakenly believed was a basic parent right, to see our children during the term and for them to return home for the holidays and then straight back to school after the holidays. We do not intend to expose them to any covid hotspots or people from these areas. We live on a remote farm where during the holidays they are lucky to see the neighbours ! As most boarding school kids don’t get home for the entire term, that’s the only place they want to be during the holidays. Please hear our message and understand that your current refusal to grant an exemption is putting significant pressure on the mental health of a large group of children and parents whose home is 100’s km’s from a confirmed covid case.
