19.01.2022 This is a very special island. The wildlife on Three Hummock Island is Truly wild. They are not fed or followed. They maintain their distance from people, and we ask that people give them the same respect. But because you remain in such close proximity to them on the island, you cant help but witness their sincere and captivating way of life. Theyre certainly one of the first things you notice when you arrive. Life in abundance. If you get too close, theyll let you know it... and flee. But if you carry on your way at a minimal distance, theyll merely prick their ears and continue their forage. From the window of the house, you can catch a rare and intimate glimpse of their relationships and interactions with one another. Hours could pass watching and you wouldnt even realise until you find yourself smiling or laughing to yourself. We took this lovely photo with a zoom lens from the window. The animals seem to feel secure when there is glass between you and them. 02.01.2022 This little collection of rocks in the distance is called Bear Island or Windsock to the local fisherman. Legend has it, someone lost a teddy bear out there a long time ago. As far as we know, it was never found. If passing through by boat, you can just spot the windsock on the islands small airstrip. Hence the nickname. At low tide, you can wade over to the island in about chest deep water, but at high tide, you have to make a swim for it. Theres always a few Australia...n Pelicans perched out on the rocks. Theyre shy as anything, not like the curious gulls performing flying circles and dives over your head. The last time we were over there, we saw 3 Sea Eagles and 4 Hooded Plovers along the beach.
