25.01.2022 Made these pavers on commission a couple of months ago for birthday pressies Hoping by now the gifts have been given.
24.01.2022 Oh dear I've had one of those days when things havnt gone right. I've now got the board cut and applied one coat front and back of sealer. All I got done this afternoon was the butterfly, and a very bad interpretation of a snail. After trying several ways of doing his shell just couldn't get right Tomorrow another day.
24.01.2022 Just a small re configuration today, hopefully can start gluing in next couple of days. Then onto reeds.
22.01.2022 While on our travels picked up an old light shade (much to my husband's horror as we were about to embark on some very rough roads) it made the trip unscathed and this is the finished product.
22.01.2022 Well if your wondering where I've been these past 6 weeks here's your answer. Thanks Jan for your patience and input, a great outcome. Sorry about the poor lighting, puts a totally different spin on detail.
19.01.2022 First photo is just showing how when I use glass I need to raise it due to difference in thickness . Second one is showing my progress so far. Bottom left and top right are now glued on, top left ready to glue and bottom right is work in progress.
19.01.2022 Hmm. Well today has been hit and miss. The glass I use for wings on Dragon fly is iridescent clear and I sprayed the back with a mirror paint but for some reason hasn't covered that well. so then decided to add a different green to reeds.watch this space.
16.01.2022 Ok, so today I decided that since I'm going to be quite a few weeks on my next project that I'd perhaps give you an insight into how I go about making my mosaic. This is a commission piece so my first process is to draw the picture so client can get some idea what they are getting.(Jan, this may look familiar, she liked yours so much she wanted same, so I'm giving similar)!!Normally I would have cut my board by now and water proofed but my dearly beloved hasn't got around to the cutting part.lol so what I have done is started some of the flowers. As you can see it starts with a piece of tile cut on my trusty tile cutter, then use my template to draw out petal, then cut and grind each piece. What you see here is approx 3 hours work.
16.01.2022 While I said I'd never do the inside of a bird bath, I had a change of mind after walking past one I had in my top garden and seeing how mouldy and dirty it had become, a quick make over, hope those birds appreciate it. the mushroom I made out of left over mortar when I made my chooks, so nice to get that done finally.
15.01.2022 Not an overly productive day, have now transferred to the board I'll be gluing to, made a new a snail using air dried clay for body over the weekend, so happy with that, then today made a few leaves and flowers.
13.01.2022 Productive afternoon. My ambition to finish the odd pieces and make a Dragon fly did not quite go to plan. Instead it took me all afternoon to just finish the background, still no Dragon fly, so today I have now grouted the background ready to place and glue reeds.
10.01.2022 My other pot. Just sometimes you need to do something simple.
09.01.2022 Just spent the last two weeks on making a bird bath for my new garden area. First two pictures are the finished product. Other two before grouting.
07.01.2022 Here are my two bee baths rushed thru for Xmas. Will be making more in three sizes if anyone interested. Will be priced between $60 to $80. Pm me if interested. Merry Xmas to all, thank you for taking an interest in my work.
06.01.2022 So yesterday I made the decision to do the background, due to the copious amount of cutting around leaves etc I didn't quite get there. I have totally now disregarded the reeds and hopefully what I have in mind is going to work. Today's job is to make 2 dragonflies
06.01.2022 After selling my last two chooks I have made another. She now sits proud on the post
04.01.2022 Signs up outside along with my Dragon fly. I've mosaiced the swirly bits on the wings and the body. Yday and today I've completed stage two of painting my studio walls inside, and grouted a pot I started a couple of weeks ago.
03.01.2022 So today has been more cutting and grinding, still no board cut but will measure that out tomorrow ready to be cut, so in the meantime I just laid out what is cut and this is the result.
03.01.2022 Phew. Completed. First four just at different angles and light, last one is the masking up I do when using more than one colour grout. I've used 3 in this one. Butterflies are slightly lifted hence the reflection of the two iridised ones.
02.01.2022 Productive day after a slow start. This will be my last post til finished. You may have noticed I've changed the Dragon fly colour. So what's left you ask. Dragon fly needs to be glued on, flowers need to be grouted, the stones glued onto the bottom section, butterfly and snail to be glued on.
01.01.2022 What a difference a light makes.
01.01.2022 Had a break from mosaicing this week and decided to paint my wall in my studio. I originally had a wisteria along the top but as id done it in chalk it had all but faded into the wall. A few tweaks and wisteria will one day be put back on, but this is it for now.
