25.01.2022 To appease one of our very (ahem) demanding followers I thought I would take a quick snap of this very handsome new piece with our even handsomer bull terrier. @dutchymccrae you’re welcome one’s better than none, right?

25.01.2022 This has been our biggest selling item of late: this 3 x drawer vanity features our signature ‘sunray’ door detail and has an open, slatted bottom shelf. We’ve done several of these over the last couple of months in various sizes; some with glass inlay in the doors and some without; some with drawers and some without. And we’re finding a lot of customers are ordering a matching shaving cabinet which can be either flush mounted to the wall or recessed into the wall for extra storage. 24.01.2022 Rob took some pictures of our freshly painted shop front with our brand new hand painted signage and newly installed festoon lights that Karl has been talking about putting up for the last 12 years or so. It was a team effort so thanks goes to the boys for their work @faroutbikerscout @alexmountford1 and of course @stevesmithart for his handiwork. Thanks also to Flynny (from Christopher Flynn Painting and Decorating) for some daredevil ladder work in the painting of the fac...ade. 23.01.2022 Well, the boys are all off on Christmas/NY holidays and the shop has been cleaned out ready to have the floor renovated next week. So I guess that means we’ve built our last pieces of furniture for 2020...I thought I’d finish with a small collection of some of my favourite pieces of the year. 22.01.2022 One of long time customers, Barbara, dropped by yesterday to order another piece. She brought some nibbly treats for Shooter and Chicken who would like to say thank you for the food and belly rubs. They would also like to remind anybody dropping by the shop today that if you have any spare food lying around the house: we’ll eat anything from stale bread and biscuits to left over spag bog’. Bring your measurements and your leftovers and we’ll be happy to help you out. But let us have a sleep in first. We’ll be up at noon and in the shop til 4pm.

20.01.2022 Big day for our young bloke, Alex, yesterday. Christmas bonus came early: rather than pay cash bonuses this year we thought we’d give the boys gifts that they’re passionate about outside of work. Alex is an avid surfer and rock climber. We were gonna buy him rocks but in a last minute switch we instead bought him this beautiful @bennettsurfboardsaus board. Bennet are a small family company in Brookvale and like us they still do everything by hand. We think 30 years in business is a long time; they’ve been in business for over 60 years in the same location.

19.01.2022 Long time friends and customers, the Berwick family of Dullwich Hill bought their dining table, which was a wedding present, in for some adjustment and a slight extension to accommodate their new upholstered chairs. This table is nearly 30 years old: we built it from timber that came from the Goldsborough Mort buildings (the wool stores in Darling Harbour) that burnt down in the early 90s. A nice slice of Sydney history and testimony to the longevity of what we build. #threeofakindfurniture #uniquefurniture

19.01.2022 We had a lady from Summer Hill in the shop a little while back, she bought our beautiful blue and green glass slimline cabinet off the floor which was a bit of an impulse buy for her. She actually came in to custom order these two little Art Deco style cabinets to rest either side of her tv. I think we’re ahead of schedule on this so if she spots this on Instagram she’ll be a happy camper. #threeofakindfurniture #uniquefurniture

17.01.2022 First time we’ve seen this in over two years: it’s the holy grail of reclaimed timber! 300mm x 50mm boards don’t come along that often. Great for making tables 900mm or 1200mm wide cos there’s no wastage. We’ve got a limited amount of this stuff which was rafters from Bankstown Airport hangars. 16.01.2022 An older, period style apartment in Maroubra; a pink sink; and a brief for space saving with a bit of a coastal feel ended up on this little beauty. We colour matched the trim to the pink sink, lime washed the timber to fit the coastal feel, introduced pebble glass and the diamond detail in the door which bridges the periods from Deco to 50s nicely. Proving Karl is in touch with his feminine side, he is enamoured with this piece, as am I. Our favourite of the year so far. #threeofakindfurniture #uniquefurniture

15.01.2022 Happy hump day! This doesn’t happen very often but we need to make some room on the shop floor for a display table made from the new timber that we’ve bought. So Karl’s going to do a deal on this one. I think he’s mad coz this one’s a beauty...but he’s the boss! It’s a standard 1800mm x 900mm thick top table that would normally retail for between $3300 and $3600. We’ll let it go for $3000 on card or $2800 cash. 13.01.2022 I’m excited out of my tiny mind. Finally, neon. For anybody that knows me (Karl) they’d be aware I’m a first class sign nerd. On regular people’s trips to America they take photos of the Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty or Niagara Falls. I take photos of old motel signs and illuminated liquor store signs. For Three of a Kind to have their first neon after 30 years in business...to me it’s not just a sign; it’s a SIGN we’ve finally made it. 10.01.2022 "Petroliana" and "Garagenalia" (as it's called these days) is something I'm very passionate about and an avid collector of. So when I saw this huge, 6ft long Indian Motorcycle sign I had to have it (even though I'm actually a Harley owner). I had plans for it straight away to mount it on a board and illuminate it with some warm low wattage festoon lights for our house. I think it came out fantastic. Well worth the effort. Dave Philpots

08.01.2022 We finished this vanity last week for one of our more excitable customers who came in and approved her piece on Saturday. It’s a slightly more colourful version of our ‘sunray’ vanities that we’ve been doing recently: we love it and we have a 3xdrawer version with a slightly more conservative clear pebble glass inlay that has a sink and tap-ware ready to go off the floor. 04.01.2022 South of the border I’ve long had a passion for Mexicana and Santa Fe style both in decor and in gastronomic terms. This piece here is a personal fave, utilising some beautiful sarape fabric that has been decoupaged on to hard board and used as a feature inlay in the doors. The gaudy green glass adds to the fiesta feel. This piece has complete recycled timber inside and out including the backing boards. The timber is circa 1920s and was sourced from houses demolished for the westconnex in Haberfield so it’s officially Habanero meets Haberfield. #threeofakindfurniture #uniquefurniture

03.01.2022 Found a new photo of an old favourite. This is an unusual sized table at 1800mm x 1800mm and had to be made demountable to be able to load it in to the customer’s premises in Rose Bay. Definitely a great piece for parties and family shindigs. #threeofakindfurniture #uniquefurniture
