14.01.2022 Looking to improve your mobility like @flynno17 .... Daily routines are

10.01.2022 Regularly in the 21st century it feels like we don't have enough time to do what we want. We never want to miss out on anything, we are constantly plugged in to something and constantly on the move. Take back control of your life and create a routine. Routines can sound very structured but they don't have to be, you can still be flexible, although they will make you more efficient and give you more time to do the things that make you happy. It could just be a simple morning r...outine, that gets everything done that needs to be done before you head off to whatever it is you do during the day. It should include things that need to be done, like making the bed, brushing your teeth, having breakfast and showering. But, make sure you include things you want to do as well, maybe you love a morning coffee, or getting up and going for a swim, or some yoga. Whatever it is, treat yourself and enjoy it. Give it a go and see how it feels but don't feel locked down, if something pops up you want to do, reshuffle your routine to work around it. .... Tag a mate who is unorganised .... Try this: - Write down what you NEED to do in the morning - Write down what you WANT to do - Fit it in to a morning routine (you might need to cut some wants but make sure you fit at least one in, its important to start the day well) - Test it out .... #hockey #fieldhockey #training #fitness #strength #conditioning #mobility #flexibility #athlete #fit #nutrition #recovery #mind #health #mentalhealth #offseason #thrive See more

07.01.2022 As the season comes to an end, off season begins and it’s good to stay active

07.01.2022 HOW SHOULD I TRAIN IN THE GYM FOR HOCKEY? Q. from @mattsegaert This could easily exceed the volume of an Insty post so here’s four principles to keep your gym-based training efficient & effective.... 1. What is the DESIRED OUTCOME? For athletes, the desired outcome is to perform better on the field. This differs to that of a bodybuilder (to gain maximum muscle with minimal body fat without concern for movement), & also differs from powerlifters (move the heaviest weight possible in a few specific movements). If you are downloading a bodybuilding or powerlifting program it may be ok but it’s not the most effective way toward YOUR desired outcome. 2. Treat your RECOVERY as seriously as your TRAINING. Professional athletes can train often & train hard because they have the resources, finances and time available to maximise their recovery. If you are an amateur athlete, training between working at the office, getting the kids to school or enjoying the social scene a little too much then it’s unlikely your recovery is as professional. This doesn’t mean you can’t progress toward your goals, you may just progress slower then someone with all the recovery tools at their disposal. Gradual progress is better then a major setback. 3. Prioritise STRENGTH rather then SIZE. Hockey requires a blend of endurance, speed, agility, power & skill. STRENGTH is the foundation of all these elements. Strength will also provide the confidence to survive collisions and withstand periods of heavy conditioning. SIZE can be helpful but is not essential, & can be detrimental if it is at the expense of movement quality. Athletes like Matthew Swann (@swann20) & Jake Whetton (@whetty12), legends of the sport, tip the scales well below 70kg, yet are living proof that size is not essential to THRIVE in hockey at the highest level. 4. Protect your SPINE Hockey is notorious for leaving athletes with bad backs. Understand your spine & the range of stability AND mobility required to withstand the demands of hockey. It will pay dividends as your career (and life) progress. This only touches on gym-based training for hockey. More to come... For specific gym programming slide yourself into our DMs.

04.01.2022 Nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated. Counting calories is an unnecessary and heavily flawed system. If you need to count something, count nutrients - vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids... these are more important. . Today’s lunch was an Avo, an organic rump steak, some lemon & ginger tea and a side salad leftover from last night’s dinner. Cheaper then most cafe or fast food options, tastes great and is super quick and easy. Nourishing the body with healthy ...fats, protein and a wide range of nutrients. Plus enjoying a bit of vitamin D out in the sun. . Quality nutrition is pivotal in feeling good, moving well and performing at your best, but it doesn’t have to be difficult. .
