22.01.2022 We're firm believers in the continual upskilling of our therapists, so that we can provide the best possible evidence-based intervention to children and their families. Thankfully, COVID hasn't stopped this completely. Wishing our talented therapist, Rukiye, a wonderful afternoon at her literacy professional development workshop today, being delivered via Zoom, of course. We are looking forward to being able to attend conferences and workshops in person again.

17.01.2022 A great insight into the life of a child with autism in a "typical" school day

15.01.2022 Don't ignore the snore. It's not cute, and it's not healthy.

13.01.2022 Take note, all you Neurotypicals

12.01.2022 Chris at Allfix is helping us get ready for our growing clinic in 2021. Storage is key when you have thousands of toys, games, and resources.

11.01.2022 Until young children (Reception/Y1) are secure with sounds i.e, they understand that letters are representations of sounds in words they should not be introduced to letter names. Teaching letter names (as well as sounds) to young children is bound to cause many children confusion and it increases the amount of cognitive load imposed on the child.

10.01.2022 COVID may be keeping us apart, but Photoshop is bringing us together. So grateful for this talented, dynamic, and passionate team. Yeah the Speechies

09.01.2022 From mid-2021, NDIS participants will undergo an independent assessment by an allied health professional employed by one of eight contracted providers paid by the government. Yet, some people who have already taken part in an independent assessment have been highly critical of the plan. Aaron Carpenter, a 41-year-old who lives with autism and agreed to take part in the pilot program, told the Guardian the experience had been dehumanising.... Carpenter said: There’s a level of trauma that comes with disability and it’s through being made to be like a dancing monkey. We almost have to tell our story every single time we see somebody. To do that with a complete stranger, over the course of an hour or two, cannot capture us at all. https://www.theguardian.com//backlash-grows-over-independe

08.01.2022 The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has highlighted the challenges faced by Australians with communication disability. Communication is a basic human right and Speech Pathology Week seeks to make Australians aware of this. Speech pathologists work to ensure everyone can communicate with confidence. It is important that the broader community understands that: 1.2 million Australians live with communication disability;... communication disability is largely invisible. Unseen and out-of-sight; more confident communication helps maximise educational, health and social outcomes; and communication is more than just speech. @speechpathaus #SPweek

08.01.2022 Yeah the Speechies

08.01.2022 It's no wonder that children with ADHD present with low self-esteem, which ends up leading to more distress behaviours. Shift your thinking to be more compassionate, and your words will follow. - Victorian ADHD Conference, 2021 -

06.01.2022 Hey, I'm Hannah. I am a fun and outgoing Speech Pathologist that is devoted to providing a holistic, fun, and family-centred approach to achieve the best possible outcomes for all my kiddies. I'm a huge book worm and love reading a book or two to wind down during the week. On the weekends, you'll find me out and about adventuring or grabbing a coffee with friends.... I look forward to seeing you around the clinic

06.01.2022 It’s back to school time! Be prepared for your child’s stuttering behaviours to spike. This is normal for our children who stutter. Stuttering is exacerbated by any event that overloads the system, such as: New environment... New friends New rules and authority figures Longer days Changes to daily routine Fatigue Loud and busy environments Being aware of all these potentially overloading events is the first step to being able to support your child. Please consult with a Speech Pathologist if you have any concerns. Yairi, E., & Ambrose, N. (2013). Epidemiology of stuttering: 21st century advances. Journal of Fluency Disorders, 38(2).

03.01.2022 Surely we're not the only ones.

02.01.2022 An isolated language impairment is the exception, not the rule.

02.01.2022 Not literal hugs, though. Please. I really don’t like them. X
