14.01.2022 This is what our Thrive volunteers have been up to this week, got a cracker day so we're able to take these kids out in the surf instead of the river, was exciting for all involved, here is the report from the head Teacher, Mr. Steve Moody: The weather forecast was fortunately incorrect and we ended up with a beautiful morning and a reasonably clean 1-3ft wave right out the front of the surf club for the YES program this week. With a group of 9 students being catered for by ...the fantastic volunteers from the Thrive program the kids had a ripping morning honing their body surfing, board paddling and ski paddling skills. Todd and Pete took some eager candidates out to the shark nets on the skis (an absolute buzz for them) whilst Jobbo, Noel and Rod took control of the paddling and body surfing groups. Nikki took charge of the beach today whilst Jeff jumped into the water to get some happy snaps of the students in action in the surf. It was great to see the students challenging themselves and backing themselves in and at times acting as support for each other whilst under the guidance of the instructors. The YES program is all about doing your best and being the best version of yourself and many of the students need these challenges put in front of them to realise what they can do. A beautiful morning on the ocean and great to see the improvement week to week by the students. We can't be more grateful to Paul and all the MSLSC people who are endeavouring to help these young teenagers navigate a path through what is often a difficult period of life. Steve

10.01.2022 Collaboration:the work of many hands and minds. Striving together towards a common goal. So what’s our ‘end in mind?’ Our goal? To create a space and place where our youth can be connected to each other, other trust worthy adults and be led to know who they are, what they stand for and learn HOW to create THEIR life of meaning. ... The positive energy we get from connecting with like-minded, action oriented people. Kind people from a multitude of backgrounds. Today there were a few of us gathered at Thrive. A big shout out to Tom Murphy Community Development Officer Youth who organised his Youth Advisory Group and supporting organisations to come together. A testament to the power of connection and collaboration.

09.01.2022 Our Mechanics Shed is really coming along now. And it’s all because of our dedicated volunteers. The give-receive cycle is what we are all about and once this is ready, imagine pulling apart machinery and rebuilding it into something else. What would you build? A hot rod? Well the ideas will be flowing because this is a space that allows youth to explore ideas, put them into action, fail magnificently and celebrate the learnings, pivot and go again! ... Oh and we have our furry friend Frank overseeing it all. He’s a tough marker.
