16.01.2022 Happy Monday! Are you getting enough Vitamin D during our cold dark winter months? Vitamin D promotes the absorption of Calcium within the gut. It is essential for bone growth and bone remodeling. Smalls amounts of Vitamin D can be found in beef liver, egg yolk and cheeses. The best food source is the flesh of fatty fish such as salmon, tuna. Try supplementing during our Canadian months to help attain your recommended dietary allowance.

14.01.2022 How do you reward yourself or your family? With a treat, shopping trip maybe an extra glass of wine? How do you typically feel after that reward? If the answer is worse than how you started, it might a good idea to rethink your reward system. This is something I personally struggle with on a regular basis. If I’m having a bad day, I usually go right to chocolate. How do I usually feel after? Not great. It didn’t improve my day, it didn’t bring me any closer to my goals. I,... like most people grew up with food as a reward and it is a very difficult habit to break. Try being more mindful of your rewards and ask yourself how that reward will make you feel afterwards. Have a list of rewards ready to choose from that will empower you. Some examples, read a book, go for a hike, paint. You can also do this with your kids, instead of offering a treat for good behavior, offer them an activity they’ve asking about. This will help them and yourself build a better relationship with food. See more

07.01.2022 Change your mindset from what you can't eat to what you choose not to eat. If you keep thinking you "can't" eat this or that, you will always have that voice in your head trying to convince you that you can. We like to be given a choice and when you choose not to eat a certain food, you made that choice. Empower yourself and CHOOSE not to eat the foods that aren't going to nourish your body and tell yourself why. So the next time you are offered something that will leave you feeling bloated, or lethargic try telling yourself that you choose not to eat it because it will leave you feeling lethargic, bloated, etc. See how much easier it is to decline.

04.01.2022 Trying to stay on track for the holidays? Here are some tips to get you through the month of December feeling amazing! Don’t use the holidays as an excuse to over indulge and jeopardize your health. 1. Try to eat as healthy as you can in between parties. Going through our calendar for next month I saw we had a ton of parties coming up which means I want to include super nutrient dense foods in between them. 2. Come up with a plan/limit and stick to it. If you’re going to a ...party where you know will have a ton of desserts. Go into the party with a game plan and stick to it. If you say you will only have 1 dessert tell your partner so they can keep you accountable to your word. 3. Try to stick to veggies for the appetizers. Appetizers are an easy way to consume a ton of calories before dinner is even served. Be mindful of how much you are actually consuming. 4. Move/exercise daily! Get outside and enjoy our Canadian winter!
