23.01.2022 Welcome to 2021! We start this year with more uncertainty than ever before. The global Coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we travel, work, play and spend time with our friends and family and looks to be with us for some time. Domestically we are in very good shape, however globally much will hinge on the success of the vaccine roll out. Overseas we have seen civil unrest in the United States on the back of an election result. Whatever side of the fence you are on, we ca...n all agree that a peaceful and functioning society is paramount and we can only hope that once the new president elect is sworn in normality will resume. In Australia we continue to be in the middle of a trade war with China, with the effects being felt down the line to our local fisherman and winemakers. Long term I believe this will settle down as there is one Australian export which China really needs, iron ore. More than 60 per cent of China's iron ore imports come from Australia and if we suddenly stop sending iron ore this would be a massive blow to the Chinese economy, one they just cannot afford. While it may all seem like doom and gloom it is not all that bad. House prices have remained steady with regional areas and towns close to larger cities seeing substantial growth. Share markets have rebounded from the lows of Covid-19 with the US hitting all time highs and the Australian market not far off. For first home buyers and young families government incentives and record low interest rates mean more money in your pocket for leisure or investment. 2021 will have its challenges but the team at THT Financial will continue to manage this, balancing the need for growth with safety and security of capital. 22.01.2022 How much do I need to retire? The question I am asked more than any other and probably the one that causes the most debate. The answer is there is no right answer. Each and every person has a different view on what their retirement looks like.... The magic million dollar number is something too many strive for when in reality a comfortable retirement usually requires much less. ASFA provides a handy guide as to the "average" cost of living and savings required for retirees with the current amount sitting at around $640,000 for a couple. Here at THT Financial we can help work out what is important in YOUR retirement and map out a plan to help you get there.
