20.01.2022 We have been informed by multiple reliable sources NSW Police have banned the Ruger PC Charger 9mm handgun under the states idiotic appearance laws. We also u...nderstand dealers of the gun have been contacted and told to stop selling it and recent purchasers have been contacted to return it immediately. Right now we have seen nothing official in writing about this and we are working to find out the facts so we can advise members how to proceed. From our perspective: These are legal handguns which meet the definition of a Cat H firearm and there is no reason to ban them. Once we have the correct info we will be actively working to reverse this ban - well need your help, so stay tuned. #allshooters

17.01.2022 Julie Holcombe speaks to us on behalf of Target Rifle Australia Julie has been in the sport for 43 years. Her local club helped her realise the sport was somet...hing she enjoyed and got a lot out of, both physically and mentally. As we are getting back to the range, remember safety is the number one priority and with restrictions varying across the country, make sure you contact your local club before heading out. See more

15.01.2022 In 2020, one of the greatest of our sport announced her retirement. Paralympic legend Libby Kosmala won 13 medals and competed in 12 Paralympic Games fro...m Heidelberg 1972 to Rio 2016! You have aimed at living by the Paralympic values and you did hit the bull’s-eye. As always! A true legend!" https://bit.ly/3aixYM3

15.01.2022 With restrictions to Domestic travel still in place, and much uncertainty surrounding the ability to schedule Events, it takes some creative thinking to continu...e competitive activity. Team Rifle has definitely found a way! Here is an update from Carrie Quigley (Rifle National Talent Coach) on recent Rifle postal competitions! What a fun and inclusive way to remain competitively active! "Rifle shooters are coming back to the range but with current restrictions, it is not possible to have interstate competitions. In South Australia, we have begun a Friendly Postal Competition that is generating interest around Australia. We started with running this for air rifle, three position and 50m prone, and added 20m prone after a request from Tasmania! Each fortnight, athletes shoot a competition on their home range and then send in their scores. It is fun and flexible with one athlete shooting his competitions before heading out to work on an oil rig for 2 weeks through to our High Performance Squad shooting at regular times as part of their ongoing training. The air rifle match has been particularly interesting with shooters from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland connecting via Microsoft Teams and shooting their match alongside the South Australian shooters. The athletes have been able to chat to each other between the match and the final. It has been a great way to stay connected in a time when everyone feels so far apart. We have run the qualification competition of 60 shots air rifle and then a modified rules final, where all athletes shoot the full 24 shots rather than being eliminated. It is great for our developing athletes to experience a full final something they wouldnt normally experience in a regular competition series. We have seen some amazing scores with Dane Sampson, Tori Rossiter and Jack Rossiter each shooting a score over 629, through to some of our developing athletes getting personal bests and improving with each competition. The Friendly Postal Competition will continue running through to December this year."

14.01.2022 A great opportunity.

09.01.2022 One of, if not the, most recognisable names in Paralympic Games history, Libby Kosmala began her career in 1968 as assistant secretary to the Australian Team in... Tel Aviv due to a mistake by the organiser. Two years later, she was selected to compete at the Commonwealth Paraplegic Games in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she won Gold in Archery and Foil Fencing, Silver in Pentathlon, and four bronze medals in swimming and wheelchair racing events. Libby has represented Australia at 12 Paralympic Games between 1972 and 2016. In her first Paralympic Games, Heidelberg 1972, Libby competed in multiple sports, winning a bronze medal in swimming, for the Womens 3x50 m Medley Relay event. Four years later at the Toronto 1976 games, Libby would secure Gold for Australia in the Mixed Rifle event. At the Arnhem 1980 games, she won Gold in Mixed Air Rifle Prone, and Silver in both Mixed Air Rifle 3 Positions and Mixed Air Rifle Kneeling. In one of the most impressive performances by an Australian athlete in Paralympic Games history, at the Stoke Mandeville & New York 1984 games, Libby won FOUR gold medals for Australia (Womens Air Rifle Standing, Kneeling, Prone, and 3 positions) in a dominant display. At Seoul 1988, she would win a further 3 gold medals (Womens Air Rifle kneeling, Prone, and 3 positions) and 1 silver (Womens Air Rifle Standing). She would go on to compete at the Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Libby has officially retired from our sport, and with a great list of accolades to her name, has undoubtably cemented her name as one of, if not, the greatest Paralympic Athlete Australia has ever seen. Libby was inducted into the SA Sport Hall of Fame in 2019. A huge congratulations to Libby on a fantastic career that spanned multiple sports, and were lucky to have watched you achieve such great success as a part of our community! 08.01.2022 CANCELLATION OF 2020 TRA RIMFIRE AND AIRGUN BENCH REST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Notice is hereby given that the 2020 Target Rifle Australia Rimfire and Airgun Ben...ch Rest National Championships have been cancelled. The board of directors has made this reluctant decision based on advice received concerning the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as well as current travel and movement restrictions imposed by some State Government Authorities. The health and well-being of Target Rifle Australia members, officials, volunteers, staff and all stakeholders is always Target Rifle Australias highest consideration when scheduling events in Australia and the decision to cancel the 2020 TRA Rimfire and Airgun Bench Rest National Championships has been made with this in mind. The situation that has arisen was unforeseen by Target Rifle Australia Ltd. The Board of Directors of Target Rifle Australia extends its sincere apologies to all members intending to participate in the 2020 TRA National Rimfire and Airgun Bench Rest National Championships and thanks everyone for their understanding at this unprecedented and difficult time. If you have any questions, or need any other information in relation to this matter, please contact the TRA Executive Officer.

01.01.2022 At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Warren Potent picked up the Bronze medal for Australia in the 50m Rifle Prone event. This marked the first time an Australian... athlete had won an Olympic Medal in a rifle event. All other Olympic medals, by men and women, had been in shotgun or pistol events previously. "I knew I would make the final that day. It was an emotional day as my greatest fan, my mother passed away not long before the Games. I was thinking about her during the preparation time and almost found myself in tears. Shot the match in tricky conditions and finished the qualification in 4th position. Just before the final Miro Sipek told me I was in a great position to get onto the podium. I was calm through the final until about three shots to go, when I realised I wasnt in third position, then I got really wound up. The last three shots could not have been better and I found myself on the podium with Australias first rifle Olympic medal. That night I had to spend time by myself to contemplate what I had achieved and how I missed my parents that day! Who would have thought when I fired my first shots at Nepean Rifle Club in the late 70s that I would end up on an Olympic podium!" Photo: Getty Images
