22.01.2022 Mother's Day 2020 This Sunday 10 May - no online classes! As per our 2020 calendar there will be no introduction or Path to Enlightenment online classes this Sunday 10 May. This continues with the centre's tradition to allow time for us to commemorate this special day by remembering or connecting with our mothers.... Kindness of all living beings As well as remembering the kindness of our mother in this life, in Buddhist practice we perceive all beings as mother and remember their kindness. Therefore, for those who would like, Mother's Day is also an opportunity to perceive and remember the kindness of all living beings. From 'Meditations on the Path to Enlightenment' by our founder and spiritual guide, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden: 'By remembering the kindness of this life's mother, love, compassion and respect arise strongly in your mind. You can then expand this feeling and extend it to embrace all 'mother' beings.' There are lots of aspects to this concept and meditations to develop our minds of love and compassion. You can learn more in any of Geshe Loden's three Path to Enlightenment books and during both introduction and Path to Enlightenment classes. Our introduction and Path to Enlightenment online classes will resume next Sunday 17 May at 1.30pm and 4pm respectively. More info on our website tibetanbuddhistsociety.org Wishing all mother sentient beings every happiness, good health and conditions, peace and kindness!

04.01.2022 LIVING WELL IN CHALLENGING TIMES MEDITATION FOR ACCEPTANCE, RESILIENCE AND TRANQUILITY THIS SUNDAY 24 MAY 1.30 PM - THE EIGHT WORLDLY CONCERNS... A lot of tension arises in life from unconscious roots. When you are emotionally preoccupied with transient and ultimately unfulfilling pursuits, you become excited at having wealth, praise, reputation or pleasure, and unhappy with loss, criticism, disrepute or unpleasant sensations. The alternative is developing equanimity. With a realistic view of the limitations and benefits of worldly concerns, your mind is freer from anxieties and frustrations. You are less disturbed or upset, less overexcited, depressed or angry and less uncomfortable with challenging experiences. Inner qualities can grow when you are not in constant pursuit of trying to control things outside yourself. Your mind is calmer and more settled, becoming a fertile space for the joy of deeper concentration to flourish. This series is led by Jean DCruz, a longtime student of the Society's founder, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden. Each session from 1.30 to 2.45pm on Sunday includes a talk, guided meditation and time for questions. All are welcome.
