25.01.2022 This is definitely my favourite part about being a speech pathologist! I LOVE being silly! A childs work is play so ensuring that they enjoy their work means I get to work with families to bring out their inner child!

22.01.2022 Repeating new words, phrases or grammatical structures for your little person is really helpful when teaching them new language! Just like when youre learning a new skill, you need to practise by watching and trying that skill multiple times! Repetitions give our little friend opportunities to hear language and maybe even try it out for themselves. E.g. I have a dog. Look at the dog! The dog is brown. Its a big dog! Can you guess my target word?

18.01.2022 Early language tip When we follow their lead we often see so many more opportunities for language. It also helps us keep our language at their level so we use words and explore things relevant to them. We have all had to listen to someone ramble about a topic that doesnt interest us. Think about what happens in those moments... we tune out, we stare out the window, we doodle on the corner of our paper. None of those behaviours are conducive to learning, playing or enjoyment. If someone spoke about our favourite topic (at the moment its indoor plants ) then I watch them, I nod, I comment and I ask questions. The interaction is FAR more successful and reciprocal.
