20.01.2022 It could have been just another day at work, or it could be seen as a turning point for some young, troubled men. When approached by my employer to conduct the railway induction course (RISI) at the Cobham Youth Justice Centre I could have froze, but instead l was excited. The young teens were all male aged between 17-19yrs old and had landed themselves in trouble where they are homed temporarily. Upon entering the Centre I was welcomed very warmly by the staff and signed in ...at entry. I attended an induction where l learnt how serious the environment was. And this was a serious place. I was escorted by teachers aides and armed guards to the training room. l sat and waited for the boys to enter. In groups they came escorted by guards. The boys sat down in groups of 3, with a teachers aide at each table. I was nervous. Once I opened my mouth it all felt natural again only there was no, if any, response from the boys in front of me. I could see how very timid and even scared a few of their faces looked. I saw this as my greatest opportunity to hopefully have an impact, and maybe give them some hope for a better start to their very young lives. Rather than read from the book, or bore them with slide after slide, l just sat and talked. Conversations were all around the learning they were required to do, and l drew from my personal experiences out on track. I could feel and sense some of them relaxing and then came the odd laughs and interactions. Was l getting through to them? Were they interested? At the break for lunch, l had 3 boys all 1 by 1 come up and shake my hand! It wasn’t the normal businessman shake, it was the boy handshake! Slaps, clicking of fingers, just how boys do things. The Justice centre staff were astounded with the connection I was having, and I was told, you have their attention now, they are captivated! I truly hope all the boys took not only a qualification from this day, but maybe some hope for that better choice next time. As a father of 3 boys I understand how important it is to raise our boys in the most respectful way possible. It is an opportunity to do our best to rehabilitate these boys and guide them to be the best men they can be. The day at the youth centre will go down as a highlight in my training career. I will gladly make myself available again if given any opportunity to maybe have any impact again. Thank you to all the staff that made me feel comfortable.

18.01.2022 Recently TIC was requested to facilitate training for SCT Logistics Penfield Maintenance Depot as they have recently brought their locomotive maintenance in-house. Over a period of four weeks, our trainer Jeff Nickson, guided the team leaders at Penfield through Shunting, Communications, Limited Movements, Fatigue Management and Certifying Locos. All maintenance staff were deemed competent at the conclusion of training.... Due to the importance and timing of the project, TIC was able to provide a trainer with client and industry specific training, and materials, to ensure a compliant and competent outcome for SCT. TIC is pleased to be able to assist SCT as they embark on this exciting new chapter for their business.
