21.01.2022 Just a brief run down of some rules for the people who havent fished a Billfish Comp before. BROOME Billfish Classic is a 10 kg monofilament tournament. Circl...e hooks only. Lures are allowed J hooks . Touch tagging of leader constitutes a tagged fish. Marlin can be tagged. Braid can be on the Reel as long as you have a top shot of 20 meters min of 10 kg mono. Skeds will be conducted at 1000 hr, 1300 hr & 1600 hr. These Skeds will be fish raised, hooked up and tagged. Saturday lines in at 0700 and lines out at 1600 hrs. Sunday shotgun start at 0630 ( all boats to be there by 0615) Lines in Sunday at 0800 and lines out at 1600. Any boats camping out on Saturday night must ensure their tag cards are handed into the club by 1900 hrs. Failure to do so will mean forfeiture of days fish. All boats involved in the shotgun start will be entered into a draw to win a cash prize donated by SM Tiling. Scrutineers will be at the club from Friday 31st at 1600 hours. All teams must present one rod equipped with 10 kg mono, double, leader and hook rig. From hook rig to leader max 4.57 and 6.1 to double. Billfish base will be monitoring channel 22. From 0600 hours for boats to log on. Boats to give POBs and fuel on board. Log off when back to the beach. All boats must carry all safety equipment to the standard required by the Western Australian Department of Transport. Briefing night Friday 31st from 1700 hours. To help protect the fish we advise not to lift the fish out of the water and make sure to swim the fish and release them away from the sharks . See more

21.01.2022 BROOME FISHING COMPS SUCCESS SAILS ON AMAZING BILLFISH FISHERY The Broome Fishing Club held yet another successful Broome Billfish Classic on the weekend, high...lighting the world-class sailfish fishery off the Kimberley coastal town. In just two frenetic-fishing days of the tournament, almost 900 sailfish were raised, nearly 600 were hooked and 386 were tagged and four marlin were also caught. There cant be many sportfishing locations that can boast that kind of return and the comps almost unbelievable results prove Broome is home to some of the hottest sailfish action in the world!!! A big shout out to Broome Fishing Club for organising the event local clubs are the lifeblood of regional fishing and events like this allow anglers to gather, enjoy great action and pool information at the end of a days fishing over a beer or two. Long may the comp continue!

09.01.2022 NEW DESIGN FOR BROOME BOATING FACILITY RELEASED The Shire of Broome has released an image of the latest plan for a multi-million dollar boating facility a...t Broome Port, and confirmed public information sessions will be held this week. It says the concept design has been updated to reflect feedback from the community, around the need for shade, toilet facilities, public artwork, beach access and avoiding damage to dinosaur footprints. Shire President Harold Tracey has said in a statement that the proposal is still a work in progress. The Shire will now hold community information sessions to present the updated concept designs and answer questions in an informal setting on the designs," he said. "The concept designs and community survey report will be presented to Council in September for consideration, The Department of Transport is also working in parallel to complete a Business Case for the project, which will be used to seek funding for the facility. A community survey done in March and April found almost three-quarters of respondents supported the chosen site, at Entrance Point. But opponents of the development dismissed the result, saying residents were too distracted by the COVID-19 outbreaks in the Kimberley to engage with the consultation process. You can find out more at public information sessions being held at the Broome Fishing Club from 6pm on Thursday the 3rd, or at Broome Boulevard Shopping Centre at midday on Friday the 4th.
