25.01.2022 100 likes!! WOO HOOOOO!!! Thanks for your support everyone! I really appreciate all your comments, likes and shares on my little page I thought it was about time I introduced myself and told you a little about the face behind TLC. For those of you who dont know me, my name is Tara and sometimes (ok quite often) youll see me commenting as myself instead of my page I am a mum to two awesome kiddies often referred to as Little Miss N (5yo) and Master J (2.5yo) and ma...rried to one Mr TLC who is my biggest supporter and also my second pair of hands when I need help tying mandalas onto their hoops Our mini schnauzer Poppy completes our little family and is also the most expensive member as she is allergic to literally everything that she comes in contact with. But we love her anyway. Most of the time. Since having kids Ive become super keen on reducing our waste (especially plastic) and have been making small but regular changes to the way we live to try to lessen our impact. Im inspired by people who live virtually waste free and figured a great place to make a really major change was in my crafty pursuits. Why buy new when the most amazing quality yarn already exists in the world? Its just in a different form and hanging in an op shop and is most likely going to end up in landfill. So a crazy idea was born and here I am, unraveling sweaters and reusing the yarn to make lots of new pretty things So if you happen to know anyone who is also keen on reducing waste and supporting handmade, then please do tag them in the comments below. But this pic seemed like the perfect one to share with you here so you know I havent forgotten about you! Here is the beautiful little Ivy checking out the large nesting basket. Perfect size for storing little tidbits in the nursery but great for any room in the house. 15.01.2022 I finally found a quiet moment last night to finish attaching this to its ring. What do you think? This is using some leftover cotton from a basket set currently listed in the shop. And of course all the yarn I use is recycled from lightly worn pre-loved sweaters. This was a particularly soft beige cardigan that was tricky to unravel but produced lots and lots of soft cotton which is actually perfect for these mandala wall hangings. Id love to know if you think this is some...thing youd like to see more of in the shop? . I really love the idea of taking an ugly or dated sweater and making it into something really beautiful (if I may say so ) rather than just something practical or useful. Let me know what you think! These are made from upcycled 100% wool op shop sweaters which were either damaged in some way or on the clearance rack. . If you havent heard of them before, wool dryer balls are fantastic to use in your dryer in place of dryer sheets. They reduce drying time, help to fluff up and soften your clothes and you can even add a few drops of essential oil to them to give your clothes a lo...vely fresh fragrance. I dont use our dryer very much (thank you Perth ) but have been throwing my set of dryer balls in with our towels for the past six months or so and have really noticed the difference! 13.01.2022 We have had, without a doubt, one of the most exhausting weekends in a long while! Its 6pm and Im ready for bed I love being busy but gosh its nice to sit and just have some quiet time to myself. Maybe its the change of season, but Im finding more and more often, that I am spending these quiet moments outside in my little patch of dirt. 12.01.2022 There are times when life gets in the way and I just dont get time to take pictures of my work. I am working away in the background but right now, the idea of putting time and energy into photos of new products is just so overwhelming. I do wish I could do it more, especially when I look at all the amazing girl-boss-mamas out there who somehow manage to make it all work!! I literally do a little happy dance when someone new follows along Just thought Id share this old pic of some wool dryer balls that I made out of a truly well-loved vintage thrift shop sweater. Ive been using them now for a few months and they have felted nicely in the dryer and help reduce drying time quite a bit. Its a great way to reduce waste and energy and a super easy DIY if youre feeling crafty But if youre not the crafty type, Id be interested to know whether you think I should stock a few sets in the shop?

Thanks for sticking with me - I appreciate your support and patience! Despite my social media hiatus, I have in fact still been busily crocheting and using up lots of leftover cotton to make these little beauties. Just a quick check in to let you know that Im still here, still crocheting and most definitely NOT panic buying toilet paper (thanks to our Who Gives A Crap subscription ). 04.01.2022 Hello and welcome to a few new faces who have joined TLC recently on this recycling journey. I am terrible at talking about myself on social media but will attempt to give you all a little introduction. My name is Tara and Im a mum to two amazing little kids (Little Miss N and Master J) and wife to Mr TLC who you will no doubt hear about every now and again. I have been crocheting for about five years, though I learnt as a kid alongside my sister and cousin who are both amaz...ingly creative and talented women. We were taught by our Grandma, Aunt and my mum, and I have many fond (and not so fond) memories of learning to crochet a granny square (I got a little frustrated if it was wonky ok?!). Fast forward a few decades, I picked up a crochet hook after Little Miss N was born five years ago and the rest is history. I became a little obsessed with recycling sweaters after first discovering it on Instagram - the timing was perfect as I was becoming more mindful of reducing waste in our house and with my crafting, and I was also rapidly running out of yarn (anyone who has a slight addiction to anything will understand the need for inverted commas in this statement). Discovering a treasure trove of beautiful sweaters on the clearance racks of our local op shop destined for landfill or the rag trade, I just couldnt walk away and have been saving sweaters for about a year now. This has led me to open a second Etsy shop so if youre interested in purchasing some luxury recycled yarns, I have some beauties recently listed including silk, merino wool, cashmere and more. Ill pop the link in the comments. Experimenting with recycled yarn to create something new and beautiful is the best part of what I do. I love that every piece is different, completely unique and cant be replicated, unlike their prior life as a piece of mass-produced fast fashion waste. Woo! This is a long post! The beige cardigan wasnt the nicest style but the cotton was lovely and soft so it was unraveled, washed and Im currently crocheting the yarn into pretty mandalas of varying styles and sizes. They take between 2-5 hours each to crochet And I have two more ready to be strung onto hoops. Once theyre done, I might list them all on the website seeing as Ive had so much interest in them!
