22.01.2022 TRIAL UPDATE For players who have been selected for our Junior Rep trials tomorrow, please be advised of the following arrangements: SG Ball players are to arrive at 4:30pm for check-in... Harold Matthews players are to arrive at 5:15pm for check-in A reminder also that strict COVID safe protocols will be adhered to - players should bring their own boots, mouth-guards and water bottle.



19.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY Good luck to former Shamrocks Dundas JRL FC player & Balmain Tigers SG Ball & Harold Matthews captain Ryan Papenhuyzen, who starts at fullback for Melbourne Storm in the NRL Grand Final this weekend. Papenhuyzen was our 2016 SG Ball captain, as well as playing NSW Under 16s, Under 18s & Under 20s.

19.01.2022 Congratulations to former Five Dock RSL "Dockers" Rugby League Club & Shamrocks Dundas JRL FC junior & #blackngold SG Ball representative Nathan Brown who has been named to make his State of Origin debut at ANZ Stadium next Wednesday in Game Two. Nathan becomes the eighth player from the Balmain Junior League to represent NSW in Origin football.

18.01.2022 The following players are invited to trial for Balmain Tigers 2021 Harold Matthews squad. Two squads have been selected below - please check the list carefully. Players selected in Group A are required at 4:30pm at Leichhardt Oval on Tuesday 20th October & Group B are required at 4:30pm at Leichhardt Oval on Thursday 22nd October. Players will need to bring boots & mouth guards for the session. Please be advised to thorough COVID safety measures will be in place for all sess...ions. Thank you for the interest of all applicants - unfortunately we are restricted for numbers during these sessions. Information on the SG Ball trial lists will be available tomorrow. 13.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY Balmain Tiger No 697 - Percy Knight! Percy played 64 first grade games in #blackngold between 1978-1982, scoring 11 tries. The wildly talented half joined the Tigers after representing NSW Country in 1977 and was part of the 1978 Reserve Grade Premiership team, scoring a try in the Grand Final win over St George. ... Percy finished his career with the Canberra Raiders, playing 22 games across two seasons in 1983-1984.

13.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY Bayley Sironen & Junior Tatola lead out our 2012 Harold Matthews side, who were Preliminary Finalists. Both players also progressed to SG Ball in 2013 as part of the Premiership squad. ... Good luck to Bayley & Junior who will start for Souths in their preliminary final against Penrith on Saturday night.

10.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY Balmain Tiger No 734 - Gary Bridge! Bridge played 103 first grade games for Balmain between 1982-1986, scoring 33 tries & kicking a field goal. A Taree local, he joined the Tigers in 1982 after being selected in NSW Country Seconds in 1981. ... A five-eighth and utility player, he left the Tigers & spent two seasons in the UK with Oldham before finishing his career with three seasons at Easts.

09.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY Balmain Tiger No 700 - Wayne Miranda! A Balmain junior from Birchgrove Scorpions, the talented outside back played 91 first grade games for the Tigers between 1978-1983, scoring 12 tries and kicking 252 goals. His total of 541 points for the club has him placed 5th overall in Tigers history.... Miranda was a member of the 1978 and 1982 premiership winning reserve grade teams, while his father Ray also played first grade for Balmain in 1942 (Balmain Tiger No 333).

05.01.2022 VALE - Laurie Fagan Balmain Tigers are saddened to hear of the passing of Balmain Tiger No 505, Hall of Fame Member Laurie Fagan. A skilful halfback and local junior, Fagan played 98 first grade games from 1959-1966, scoring 19 tries and kicking 22 goals. He was also a member of the Tigers 1965 Reserve Grade premiership team and represented NSW (NSW Blue No 560) in 1962, the same year he won the Sydney Morning Herald Player of the Year award. ... He departed the Tigers to move to the new Penrith Panthers club in 1967 as a foundation player, where he finished his career in 1970. He later coached the Ryde Eastwood Hawks to a Second Division title in 1972. In our Centenary Year of 2008, Laurie was inducted into the Balmain Tigers Hall of Fame. 04.01.2022 The club wishes to advise that due to the high number of applications to trial for 2021 Junior Rep positions we have now closed this off. All players selected to train/trial will be posted to FB & our website www.tigers.org.au by 5pm this Friday to assemble at Leichhardt Oval Tuesday 20th Oct for a 5pm start. COVID restrictions will be in place so only players selected will be able to enter the venue on this date. Further information will be forthcoming on this night.

02.01.2022 Terribly sad news to hear of the passing of a life member of our club, Jack King. He has been a wonderful servant of rugby league in our district for decades. Our thoughts are with his family & the Ryde-Eastwood club.

01.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY Balmain Tiger No 802 - Ian McCann! McCann, a bustling goalkicking centre, played 33 first grade games for the Tigers from 1989-1992, scoring 5 tries & kicking 17 goals. ... He finished his career with a season at Penrith in 1993 and continued on a successful career as a premiership winning coach at Wentworthville in the Metropolitan Cup. He is currently President of Wentworthville Leagues Club.
