05.01.2022 Over twelve months ago Light Regional Council moved a motion at the AGM of the SA Local Government Association that Zebra Crossings be re-introduced to SA as a ...practical means for people to safely cross a road. They were banned in this State in 1976. This motion was adopted unanimously by all Councils present. Apart from a committee- working party being formed between Local Government and State Government and a trial site in Pirie Street being tested little has happened. I can not undestand the reluctance of the State Government Department (DPTI) to introduce such as simple and effective national and international safety measure. At present this would be the only way our Council could provide a safe crossing as we do not qualify for any other recognised measure. If you agree with me let me know and I will certainly continue do what I can to garner support in order to encourage DPTI to allow a simple Zebra (Pedestrian) Crossing in our local towns were required. Sorry for the long rant.......
