22.01.2022 Making your Bathroom Sexy. When spending the money it cost these days to reno the bathroom there are many things to think about. Can we make a bathroom look sexy. I think with some imagination and spending some time researching and using the scrap book we talked about earlier for the same amount of money we can have sexy. Tile suppliers these days know there is a market for the different and the technology on how tiles are made has leaped forward in the past few years. I ...am going to post a few pictures just to show you some of the affordable tiles in the market place you might not see every day at your local tile store that I think if put into your bathroom can make it look sexy. Combining a everyday lets say 600x300mm wall tile and a few 600x300mm tiles I have posted can tern the normal to sensational Have a look at a few of these and see what you think. See more

20.01.2022 Making it Stick. Glues are important in making the job last. You might as a handyman have some uneven tiles but if in 12 months time they start all falling off ...you will regret starting the job in the first place. Glues in the past few years have improved so much and also are a lot easier for the handyman doing his own tiling. Getting some good advice is important when explaining what tiling job you may have and if you are going to tile your wall or your floor. Rubber Mod glues are in most cases the way to go. They have good strength, there flexible, and are easy to use. I personally used them in every bathroom I have ever done and it has never let me down. Making sure you get a good brand is important and in most cases it should be between 35 to 45 dollars a bag. You can not use some glues over waterproofing membrane's but most Mod glues will stick to everything. This does not mean you should just use a rubber Mod glue for every job as if tiling a pool you would never use a mod glue. Or if you were tiling over Timber you would have to add a special additive or even have a 2 pack glue. ( As I have said get some good advice or maybe do some home work on the internet and find out what's needed for your job) Grouts next week as well as making your bathroom look sexy. Yes Sexy. 19.01.2022 I know not many people like to read to much on the internet but I thought I would spend some time over the next few weeks helping if you would like to renovate your Bathroom and try to save you some money and stress along the way. This is one of the most expensive rooms in your house to renovate and so thinking about your style and design is well worth the time. Getting a scrap book is a great idea and these days with mobile phones and the ability to take a picture when se...eing something you like in a store or in a display home is a great idea. But we should go back a few steps first. First we should get to style. Have you got a idea in mind for your bathroom ? Do you know what it is going to look like when it is finished ?. Have you picked a style for the look you are trying to create, Modern, Contemporary, Romantic, Transitional, Eclectic these are just a few but will help when taking pictures and putting that scrap book together. The next question you should ask to yourself is, am I keeping this house and happy to put my own taste in the room. Will you sell the home in a couple of years or are you renovating to sell your home. This is a very important question because your taste might not be the markets place expectation for resale. One of the most common questions I get asked by customers is ( if I put this or that into my bathroom will it date it ). I think it is a very hard question to answer but I do have a rule I have found to be helpful. Keep it simple, don't overthink, and do not use any more than 3 colours. Even the bathroom below does not look out of place today after many years as they have used 3 colours. Please let me know if you find this information useful and I will keep posting more information every week. Next week we will talk about budgets and what you should be getting for your money. Products and quality.

18.01.2022 Now here is something a little different. Possible in your home? YOU BET IT IS. Any picture can be put onto a tile now and it is not as expensive as you might think. The effect can be breathtaking.

16.01.2022 What are these forms and how do I know I need one for the job I am doing. Lets start with glass and the forms you require. There are two forms you will need. One is called a form 15 and this is required if you are replacing or installing a shower screen or a pool fence or glass balustrading to name a few. This form is supplied from the place you buy your product and the accessories you may need to put the Glass up. Giving an example would be a pool fence, you will need the gl...ass and Spigots as well as a latch. All these components require a form 15 and this should say on it all the products are compliant with the current Australian safety standards. There are ratings on products as well to remember as in the case of a glass pool fence. It is no good getting 1800mm long sheets of glass for your pool fence if your spigots are only rated to 1600mm long glass. Your store should help you with this and make sure all the products comply. Most of us like to shop around these days for the best price, and buying the glass from one supplier and the fixing components from another is fine, just do your homework first. In the case of glass pool fencing you can install it yourself. Make sure you know the legalisation in your area. In Queensland for a example you have to make sure it is 1100mm away from your pool and there is no step point within a meter. If placing the fence closer than a metre to your pool you need to have the spigots you use grounded. All the regulations can be found on your state or territory websites and should be used before starting any work. The form 16 is used for the installation. In the case of pool fencing its a do it yourself if you like, but in the case of glass balustrading you require a form 16 from a person that is licensed to complete the work. There are safety issues involved here and an upstanding on the laws is essential. The next post will explain more about form 16 and when you need it and why. All the information posted is advice only for an understanding of what you might need to complete some projects. All Laws should be checked in your area where you live and My posts may not comply to your area.

10.01.2022 Myself and Andy would like to wish all Mothers a very special mothers day today. If your children are good to you they might even give you a new Bathroom for a mothers day gift. Ok I know its asking a little to much but how else was I going to get onto the subject. Now we have our scrap book with all our ideas in one place its time we go through it and work out what will fit and what may not. Pushing the ideas together and getting a plan that might fit what we have as our ...overall plan will be a lot easier now we have some visuals. The one rule that I think works is that if you are going a square look as far as Taps, then look at keeping the Accessories and shower heads square. I am not saying that mix and match will not work for you but in the general the many bathrooms I have seen look better if all the same style. Manufactures also think this as they are increasingly having rangers that cover the totally refit from shower heads through to a robe hook. The internet has many taps and accessories for sale these days but buying a tap online from overseas can be a downfall. In Australia the government has a system in place called the Wells System. All Tapware has to be marked with the wells mark to comply with the law. These marks are important as it gives the consumer things like warranty and you know it has be tested to the pressures used in our water systems. There are many reasons for water testing but I am sure it would bore your pants off if I stared going into it. Just remember look for the water mark on the back of the tap with the W and you can not go wrong. I will post a few taps you might think are ok and look the same but are not water tested latter. The main reason I say to make sure it is water tested is if it leaks and floods the house. Your insurance company will not pay out on your claim if not water tested and also your plumber is breaking the law by installing it in the first place. This is not however saying that all taps sold on the internet are not water marked as many are but also many More are not. Some pictures of watermarked taps and some that are not. the Tap on the left is NOT Watermarked and comes from china direct. The one on the right is Watermarked to Australian Standards Made to Australian Standards code: AS/NZS 3718:2005 Water supply-Tap ware

09.01.2022 TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE TFB Centre has a Full Range of Frameless Shower Screens and Shower Heads

08.01.2022 Floor Tiling. Lining up the floor and wall tiles if possible is always a nice idea. Having the grout lines going from the floor to the wall looks good. Don't b...e to concerned if this is not possible if doing the tiling yourself as long as the floor is even with the floor or the tile on the floor is set half way between the floor tile and the wall it will look good. The only time I have seen when it looks very average is when the floor tile line up with the floor tiles because of difference in size was put to close to a line up and this can look like a mistake. Far better being off centre or close to the centre of the line than to close to it. Remembering when you pick a floor tile for your bathroom should be something that you feel safe with when wet. there are building codes that should be followed with slip ratings which ever tile has. Slip rating is a rating given by a government authority and every floor tile has to have one. Colour is important when picking a floor tile as well. Many manufactures of tiles as well as tile shops have matching floor and wall tiles and this seems to be popular at this point in time. Doing some homework on tiles is a very good idea as the tile market is a very large market and because of this the market is very competitive. Getting quotes from a few shops is always a good idea. Remembering about when selecting a tile what type will it be is important as well. Things like Stone can be just fantastic and make your bathroom that little bit more special but at the same time remembering if you pick a natural stone, you will have to maintain it. One which cost money and Two your time. Ceramic tiles are low maintenance and some can look very much like stone. Next week Grouts and Glues Thanks for sharing and reading. See more

07.01.2022 Where did the push bike go. Something Different

06.01.2022 The last post I put in some tiles that I think can make a difference and give that sexy look to your bathroom. I have some pictures of the same tiles used in ...areas that now will give the over all look you might be looking for. The pictures are from the suppliers and so in some look a little to much but it still gives a great idea on what is achievable. So Check some of these out. See more

04.01.2022 Keeping that bathroom from looking old before its time and achieving a resale that will please most potential buyers. Selection of the Accessories and Tiles are the most important part of the refit and can turn elegant into disaster if not doing some research. Setting a budget that's is realistic to your house value is important as well and making your bathroom not so modern or out of place with the homes overall look. No use in having the best bathroom in the home your tryi...ng to sell and it looks like your house needs a renovation to catch up to what you have created. Your potential buyers will only see more work to do and more money that needs spending. Shows like The Block have made us all look at what is achievable and has got us thinking, I can do that. I would be the first to say yes you can but knowing your limits is important as well. Things like planning and organising the overall rebuild is important as well as picking the right Tradesmen to do the work you might not be tackling yourself. Tiling: There are so many tiles in the market place it can be the most daunting part of your selection process. Lets forget about colours right now and concentrate on shape and stile. There are two tile types rectified and cushion edge. Most rectified tiles will be tiled on the wall at a 1 to 2 mm gap and cushion edge 3 to 4mm. Picking tiles for your walls even if just white can change to overall look of the room once completed. The way they are set on the wall also changers the overall look. If you have a small bathroom with a high ceiling it can be a good idea to run the tile (lets say a 600x300mm tile) 600mm along the wall and 300 high, This will make the room look longer then it is, giving the room a overall feeling of space and lower look to the ceiling. We can push the ceiling up latter again by a simple mosaic or running the 600x300mm tile once vertically. how do you pick tiles for your walls. being the most common is not a bad thing. The most common wall tile in the market place today for walls is 600x300mm. The trend is becoming bigger with less grout lines in the walls then smaller. Cleaning today is something we don't have time to do and customers tell me all the time I want something easy to maintain. Below is a before and after with simple lines and to budget. Next time floor tiles
