23.01.2022 The Charger Club of Western Australia have a great book out that Cameron features in. Cameron Tilley is know to people of all ages across Australia as the face of Valiant with is giant killing perfomances in the electric blue 1969 VF four door Pacer in the Touring Car Masters Championship. Owning and driving Valiant product has been a life time pleasure for the likeable Sydney sider. It all began at the age of 15 when purchasing his first R Series and then in 1986 built his f...irst S Series race car and today has a collection of a dozen sought after collectibles which includes an AP5 wagon R and S Series and 2 and 4 door Pacers. It was inevitable that Cameron would enter motor racing. His father John raced and FJ Holden and then later an S series Valiant which served as his dailer driver and track car. He also worked for Des Leonard in ther early sixties, were hotting up variants was a daily routine. Cameron was into everything mechanical, after school activies included building billy carts modifying push bikes, fitting lawn mower motors to push bikes. At the age of 15 he was at TAFE studying to be a motor mechanic and was a qualified tradesman by the age of 20. He is also a self Taught qualified spray painter specialising in hight quality restoration of prestige, classic and muscle cars. The racing all started in the mid 80s. His first project was a 62 S Series Valiant. The car was resuced from the burn out remains of a smash repair shop on the Northern Beaches, his car possibly set the bench mark for a group Nb Car at the time and won its first ever race at Oran Park in the hand of brother Brad. This car was powered by a 225 cubic inch slant 6 and manual shift push button automatic. These engine were know for making plenty of torque and after years of development made as much as 370 HP. Even with the original torsion bars and leaf spring the car handles very well. The 4 wheel drum brakes were probably the biggest negative of the car and become quite dangerous as the engine was developed and the car became very competitive. Car was fast , consis...tent & 100% reliable all weekend & best of all we came away with only a cracked bumper bar & windscreen . Also a special milestone this weekend in completing my 200th TCM start .
