15.06.2022 Nicole was referred to me by Sarah. Nicole had a couple of rings that she wanted 'something' done with, using all or some of the stones to best effect. Being light, and low, and having a certain randomness within the design. So to explain the process; we went through my tried and trusted system of exploring all of the possible options. I emailed some initial scribbles for consideration (along with a ballpark guesstimation of cost), to try to get an idea of how 'random' Nicole... really wanted to go, and whether or not to use the ruby or sapphire as well, or just all diamonds. It was decided that the ring should include the ruby, and have the some balance to the randomness. So a second page was emailed that was closer to the actual scale, and hopefully narrowing down to a preferred layout. After some more email discussion, and another coffee shop meeting, number 15 was deemed the winner, so we moved to having a precise CAD image so that we could see exactly how it would look and make alteration if needed. When the design was finalised, I could then give and exact costing to make, and then proceed. See more
06.06.2022 This Enamel, 9ct and silver pendant has come back to me for safekeeping. This is the first piece of jewellery that I designed and made as part of my pre-apprenticeship course at the John Cass School of Art in Whitechapel ( back in 1975-76 when I was 16 ).
28.05.2022 Another two coin holders for these gorgeous Austrian gold coins. When I made the original a few years ago, I also made a mould of it so that they could be produced more economically this time.
26.05.2022 Thank you Ros, Barry, and Pip for the many jobs that you've given me over the last few years. The latest one is a chunky new wedding in Silver ring for Barry, because the last one had shrunk a bit. Wedding rings tend to do that.
11.05.2022 Sadly, a while ago Philippa mislaid her wedding ring. While doing the repair work on the engagement ring, I also made for her a replacement. This one has diamonds all of the way around.
24.01.2022 Two rings made to 'stack' for Shelley, using some of Mum's stones and some of grandma's.
23.01.2022 I've now made three rings for Kathy, using stones from her original engagement and wedding ring. This design grew from number five on the sheet of 'scribbles', then we moved to a CAD drawing to finalise the design before proceeding to manufacture.
23.01.2022 Diane's sapphire and diamond cluster needed some TLC. I think that she must have caught it under a filing cabinet drawer or fridge shelf and bent the head over. I couldn't promise to make it perfect again, but it did turn out pretty well.
23.01.2022 Life must go on, and special presents are still needed, so Danielle contacted me about getting something nice for her daughter's 16th birthday. After discussing the options, I asked one of my suppliers make this letter E pendant, and then I sourced a lovely matching set of six natural emeralds to set into it. Danielle was very pleased with it, and has now commissioned one for herself : )
19.01.2022 Margaret had a big South Sea pearl set on a fairly lightweight ring, but wanted a more substantial look and better protection for the pearl. So I made a much larger cup for the pearl and these additional shoulders set with some diamonds from another piece. I always forget the degree of difficulty involved, and the extra time it takes to add new work to old existing, but a good result nevertheless.
14.01.2022 I've been working hard to get jobs done before I leave to go to London on Thursday. One of the last is this gorgeous diamond necklace. I made Emily's engagement ring (how many years ago now?), and now for her significant brithday she asked me to use this heirloom diamond and make it into one of these very fashionable but classic style necklaces. Really nice, it worked out well.
13.01.2022 Suzanne called me because she wasn't able to wear her wedding and engagement rings anymore, and needed them made a bit bigger. I usually meet people for a nice beverage and a chat in a coffee shop, but that's not possible at the moment, so we made do with social distancing and sanitiser in the Lane Cove Plaza. The engagement ring was straight forward to resize, but the wedding band has engraving around the inside so care was taken to preserve it. I pointed out that the claws ...on the centre princess cut had almost given up the ghost and it was in danger of coming out in the near future, so I had them built up with laser welding and the tips recut like new. I advised Suzanne not to wear her rings to bed because the claws wear much quicker when constantly rubbing against the sheets and blankets. Plus, if you never take them off you won't feel them getting tighter which tends to happen 'with time' and then there's the danger of them getting stuck on, and needing to be cut off ( which leads to a bigger repair bill ). Suzanne says that she loves them and they are perfect. See more
12.01.2022 A mutual friend suggested that Moira talk to me, as she'd previously been told that it wasn't possible to fix this diamond ring. Moira had lost her original engagement ring, so for many years had been enjoying wearing her Mother's ring. But the band had worn completley through and the diamond was so close to coming out because the setting was almost non existent. I put on a new shank (band) just like the original, and replaced the eight claws, so this ring is now pretty much as it was when Mum first put in on. Oh and, Moira decided that she'd have a matching wedding ring made to go with it.
07.01.2022 Anderson wanted his platinum wedding ring changed into a new style... being narrower and very high rounded. So I melted it up with some extra and worked it into the right shape. The 'progress' pics jump from the milling process to the finished item without showing the precision filing that took place in between. You'll have to imagine me working at my bench doing that part : )
06.01.2022 A couple of weeks back, for her daughters birthday, Danielle bought a big letter E Pendant set with emeralds. She liked it so much that Danielle then wanted her own, but this time set with pink sapphires.
06.01.2022 A nicely rounded 18ct Rose Gold band for Megan, set with six of Grandma's diamonds. There's a few names for this style of setting including: hammer-set, gypsy-set, and rubbed-in.
04.01.2022 Marion contacted me after seeing something that I posted on the Beecroft Cheltenham Facebook Page. She'd been watching a James Bond movie with her son Marcus, when he suddenly realised that he'd really like a signet ring for his upcoming 18th birthday. Well this one doesn't have a hidden camera ( or does it? ), but it does have an absolutely beautifully engraved stylised M, for a very stylish young man who I am sure will continue to make a good impression throughout his life.
03.01.2022 These two rings were to be used in a wedding ceremony in the UK last April, but sadly the Covid crisis forced the cancellation, so work on them proceeded at a more leisurely rate. The layout of the stones ( which all came from a large collection of heirloom rings ) has significant meaning for Fiona and Serena. Unusual in design, but stunning in execution. The gems in their fine white bezels seem to float on that sea of yellow gold, and you can see the reflections in the mirror finish which gives an even greater depth. There were some challenges in the making, but well worth the effort.
