25.01.2022 Many will have seen it in the Emerging Cricket Forum, however this is a wonderfully deep, personal insight into what it’s like growing cricket in a developing country, from Aussie Samantha Hickman who works for Cricket Peru. It is definitely worth the five minutes or so it will take to read - and there are similarly inspiring accounts not far from Lima. Colombia, Mexico & Brazil have some great stories too - and cricket has been played in Argentina for a long time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

24.01.2022 Just goes to show that every conversation matters! Here’s how’s one of USA’s hardest working cricket evangelists learnt about the sport, ten years ago today, at a Civil War day demonstration no less! You look like a pretty hard nut to crack in that pic though Jamie - must been a decent demo in the end...

24.01.2022 There may be some productivity issues in part of Hong Kong this Thursday...

24.01.2022 With common ownership across GT20 Canada & the Euro T20 Slam (albeit different squad make-ups) it shouldn’t be hard to provide the best earning potential for AM players, without diluting the quality nor increasing the cost.

24.01.2022 In the first cutsinfo FAQ post (of many) here's my three minute read explaining the facts & figures on ICC's global funding of world cricket. How much is distributed? Where does it come from? Where does it go?

24.01.2022 Thanks again to Cambo for giving up his time to chat with cricket fans from all over the world today.

23.01.2022 The Hong Kong Sixes.... 12 teams this year. 26-28 October; yes, less than seven weeks away!

23.01.2022 Shout out here to Peter Della Penna - the dedicated ESPNcricinfo journalist who covers the emerging cricket world’s teams & events. Keep an eye out for his updates on #WCL3 which begins today in Oman between the hosts, Denmark, Kenya, Singapore, Uganda, & USA. 22.01.2022 Proud to support such an amazing group in their country's first-ever global cricket event! And bravo Nishadh Rego

22.01.2022 Dean Jones. One Day Magic. Any of you who've known me for any length of time would know just how much I idolised Dean Jones....and would probably roll your eyes... to remember how much I must've gone on about him as a kid! They say you should never meet your childhood heroes. But, I got to meet mine, then work with him, and then call Deano a mate. To get a text from Gary with the news of Dean's death....well, beyond the shock, it just brought a flood of memories and emotions. Kookaburra Ridgeback/Bubble. Oakleys. Hitting Srinath for 6 at the Gabba in the 1992 World Cup. Wide-legged stance. Sweatbands. Being given out by Ross Emerson in 1996 for Aus A v the Windies when he was trying to force his way back into the side for the 1996 World Cup. I could go on...but, frankly, *he* was the reason I fell in love with the game as a wide-eyed 7-year-old watching him change the game. The first time I ever 'met' him was at the SCG during that Aus A game I mentioned above in 95/96, a key game for him. He signed my bat, hat and shirt at the boundary's edge - all while missing a drinks break so so he could sign as many kids' bats as possible. But - this picture - was when I first 'properly' met him, when he came to HK to commentate on the first HK T20 Blitz in 2016 thanks to some speedy negotiations by Max and some swift work by Alfie when Deano fell ill on arrival in HK. (...you even can also see a very young Sandeep Lamichhane there in the background!) Even though I was CEO and surely supposed to put on a professional front...and was definitely not supposed to show just how excited I was....I still worded up someone to please take photos of my talking to my hero for the first time.... My deepest condolences to Jane, family, and well, everyone whose lives Deano touched - and by looking at my feed, that is many. RIP mate.

22.01.2022 Leading up to the18th Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018, South Korea had full-time contracts for their men’s & women’s sides. When cricket was pulled from the 2018 event so was the funding and thus the players’ contracts. HK lost access to ~US$500k pa through its own sports institute with that decision, too.

20.01.2022 Great to join CricIndex again, this time for Part II of the #CWCQ Saga Trilogy. Ok, it's no Star Wars - but we do unpack all the on-field action from one of the most exciting, competitive ICC events in recent memory.

19.01.2022 Great piece here by Bimal with input from Chris Carter & Scott McKechnie.

19.01.2022 Love this story - and great work behind the scenes by Arjun Menon...a great initiative in the EPS series - a partnership with Uganda Cricket Association. Would you believe Singapore Cricket Association scouted players similar to those they'd face in this Asia Qualifier to play against them in the 'Gladiator' series? Superb prep that most definitely paid off.

19.01.2022 It's difficult not to get too emotional talking about it, but the threat to cricket's soul from fixing cannot be overstated; education, funding & support needs to be better, now.

19.01.2022 Today is a dark day in Australian cricket. It is being compared the underarm incident. To me, it is worse. Underarm was within the laws at the time but in a clear breach of the spirit of the game. In front of our own eyes in the early hours of this morning, we watched a player in clear contravention of both the laws and the spirit of cricket. And adorning that player’s head, a baggy green cap. Cricket is one of the rare pursuits today, recreational or otherwise, that transcen...Continue reading

19.01.2022 Here’s Part III where we talk about the World Cup and the future of the emerging member nations.

16.01.2022 #CWCQ POWER RANKINGS #5 AFGHANS' GREAT ESCAPE. DUTCH RUN OUT OF CONTENTION. We now have six teams left in contention for two spots at the World Cup. And - with more impact on direct funding - three teams in the bottom four will be playing off for the last ODI status position and guaranteed berth in the 2019-21 World Cricket League Championship (#WCLC)....Continue reading

16.01.2022 After way too long - here's my latest blog. This time its comparing the World Cup v Asia Cup formats and why the Asia Cup gets the from me.

15.01.2022 Some thoughts on the decision to grant Nigeria and Namibia a spot in the men's and women's T20 World Cup Qualifiers, respectively, replacing Zimbabwe who are suspended by the ICC.

15.01.2022 All to best to the boys in black + red today against Afghanistan. Playing on the same field; hopefully there will be some lessons taken from this - very much a spinners' wicket! ICYMI - catch up with my power ranking after day two here: http://bit.ly/2D6s64a

15.01.2022 ....hang on, Windies Cricket & Zimbabwe Cricket are in a ICC Cricket World Cup qualifier? Still catching up with what is actually happening in Zimbabwe? Here's a few more general thoughts about the current state of the #CWCQ over on LinkedIn http://bit.ly/2FCJ6oL

14.01.2022 Exciting times at EC. Enquire within!

14.01.2022 Exciting news for cricket's growth in Europe and beyond!

13.01.2022 In some ways it feels like ages ago, others only yesterday. What a three years it’s been for him! Franchise cricket in no fewer than 10 countries’ events...and more to come!

13.01.2022 With all the different franchise tournaments, WCL/WT20 pathway events, regionally-driven ICC-affiliated events and also those driven by nations themselves (e.g. East Asia Cup), I've started an emerging cricket events calendar on my blog to (help others) keep track! I've loaded up all the major men's T20 leagues and will soon add all the WT20 regional events and ladies' tournaments. Feel free to shout out if I am missing something or something is incorrect. (e.g. EPL dates, I ...have been reliably informed is different to that on Wikipedia). You can also view by category from the right hand menu too by Franchise Cricket / ICC AM Events / Non-ICC Events.

13.01.2022 This one's a little more emotional. Tonight, HK go up against the might of India. Many of us remember a similar night just over 4 years ago. Not many know about the helicopters. No "FAQ" this time, more a pouring-of-ones-heart-out-over-a-lunch-hour

12.01.2022 Just in case you're still watching cutsinfo! Will look to move/update the articles about funding, structures and whatnot on EC soon. Meanwhile, check out Emerging Cricket for all the news and insight from cricket's new world!

12.01.2022 Good to chat about the two new Euro leagues coming soon and how they can help grow the sport on the continent and beyond. Thailand’s unbeaten run continues and we also talk about the fact the Nepal women’s team arrived home to an empty airport after their second placing in the ICC Asia Women’s Qualifier.

11.01.2022 In the next FAQ: all "big three" media deals have now been sewn up. So, how much is Australia, England and India's five years of cricket on home soil collectively worth across their domestic rights contracts? And who's paying the money?

11.01.2022 Was great chatting to CricIndex about the #CWCQ and emerging cricket in general with some deep dives about status & funding.

10.01.2022 Actually it’s even bigger than this. Annual funding for WCLC / ICup ~USD625,000. So over four years this is 2.5m / HKD 19.4m Funding for WCL2 ~USD150,000 (not that you’d be in it for more than a year but that’s 600k or HKD4.6m). The ICC also paid USD250k extra to ODI/T20I associates in 2016 & 2017 so it definitely adds up!!

10.01.2022 Great news yesterday from the ICC regarding T20I status for all. Just a few tweaks needed to make this even better for the sport's development including amending the status / approval process for emerging countries' own T20 leagues.

09.01.2022 Here’s your chance to be mentored by the coach behind Hong Kong’s two recent T20 World Cup appearances which included the incredible upset win over Bangladesh in 2014

09.01.2022 Great little graphic here showing just how even #CWCQ was from Daniel Beswick

09.01.2022 ....and once again, with feeling! Now we're (almost) out of a world where sandpaper on a cricket ball was more important than a World Cup qualifier that decided scores of careers and livelihoods, here's a 'cast on the future of the emerging game. Dennis Does Cricket plays an (not very) unfamiliar contrarian role as Malcolm Cannon, Jake Perry & I respond to Sikandar Raza & William Porterfield's impassioned speeches after their teams' final matches. Edward Gibbs is ringmaster, again.

08.01.2022 For those unaware, Charlie Burke has now left Hong Kong for a role at Queensland Cricket. For all the talk about Hong Kong's performances v India - none of it wouldn't have happened if this guy hadn't moved to HK back in 2010. His post is public so feel free to go and show the man some love - he deserves it.

08.01.2022 Some IPL banter with the guys from CricIndex. Thankfully we had finished before I was cheering (by myself, at home) when Kings XI Punjab’s Mujeeb bowled Virat Kohli with an absolute beauty of a wrong un.

08.01.2022 I spoke with Wisden about the immediate impact of Hong Kong’s performance at the #AsiaCup2018. With so much Goverment funding linked to Asian/Olympic Games inclusion (and was dropped from the recent 2018 Games in Jakarta) and the well known dearth of facilities in HK, these things won’t change quickly. However the opportunities for Hong Kong Cricket from this to attract additional commercial partners and for the players to break in to more global franchise cricket have rece...ived a huge boost. It was very pleasing from the outside to see Cathay Pacific sponsor the team - the first time the HK airline has been involved with HK cricket since the 2010 Hong Kong World Sixes.

07.01.2022 There is a slight deviation from the theme when I decide to discuss my childhood clothing obsessions which will dictate my #PickTheKit vote but otherwise hopefully a worthy listen. #TeamLightning

07.01.2022 Was great to join Arun Sudhaman for a power play on #CWCQ, Hong Kong Cricket , #TamperGate, & Olympic cricket. Give their page a like / follow to keep up with a view on cricket from the East!

07.01.2022 Thanks for everyone's questions! We are more than happy to answer questions on any of our weekly #ECpod so please just send them through whenever they come to mind.

06.01.2022 Got to steal some time on The National Sport's weekly cricket pod talking about the Hong Kong T20 Blitz, Associate T20s, and world cricket's club v country conundrum.

06.01.2022 .....enquire within!

05.01.2022 Absolutely superb for Sandeep Lamichhane! Whether it's for $130,000 or $91,000 - as the first #CPLDraft pick of non-retained players, it is outstanding to see the continued recognition (and development) of talent beyond the FM world. HOWEVER: USA’s Ali Khan has been a breakout star in the CPL and for the draft rules to allow him to be retained at $3,000 is disappointing. Even against the backdrop of COVID why does the compulsory Americas pick have to be the last round & for o...nly $3,000? Don’t get me wrong, #CPL20 happening & it having a guaranteed spot for an Americas Associate is GREAT (& more than any other FM T20 League has done for Associate overseas) but why not untether this mandated pick from the last round? (I wrote about this in 2019 on the GT20/CPL which I will post int he comments):

04.01.2022 Apologies for the road noise...but it's always great chatting to Peter Della Penna!

04.01.2022 Congrats to dedicated Korea Cricket Association coach Bronwell Bevan Williams who has been invited to Pakistan as Head Coach of Incheon Zalmi who will compete in Zalmi Foundation's global tournament. More details to come but please get in contact with Bronwell directly as he is looking for sponsorship support to allow him to make the journey. Peshawar Zalmi | Javed Afridi

03.01.2022 #CWCQ POWER RANKINGS #4 CHEVRONS, CALYPSO KINGS JOIN SCOTS IN SUPER SIXES Day four of action was the first where all favourites returned victories. Afghanistan got their first win in their last group game - against Nepal. After dismissing Paras Khadka's team for 194 in the last over they made easy work of the chase. ...Continue reading

03.01.2022 Babar Hayat, Ali Khan, Sandeep Lamichhane and Canada’s Saad bin Zafar all played key roles for their sides in 2018 - but without reserved spots in the XIs for Canadian (or other Associate) players, beyond the financial advantage to the game in the benefit for the players will be sadly limited. The Hong Kong T20 Blitz had a maximum of five overseas per side and each team had to carry an overseas player from another Associate. This meant a minimum of six local players were in each XI and this unearthed some great talent. Here’s hoping GT20 introduce a minimum quota for local / AM players for 2019!

03.01.2022 Great to bring up the 50 with Daniel Beswick & Nick Skinner. Still so much to talk about despite there being no onfield action - giving the EC team more time to dig deeper into the issues affecting the game we love! Any ideas or suggestions for topics or interviewees just shout out!

03.01.2022 Have finally built a web platform to house all my long form musings & (hopefully) some useful information regarding the (emerging) cricket world. There's a subscribe link there too. Would appreciate any/all love thrown its way. Suggestions too. Thanks all!

03.01.2022 Here’s Emerging Cricket’s second podcast. Enjoy.

02.01.2022 Ever wondered how the ICC funds the nearly 90% of member federations who are not Test nations? (93/105 members if we include USA). Between $160-200m will be distributed over the 2015-23 period. Here's how and where.

02.01.2022 Was lucky enough to be the pilot for the CSM Sport & Entertainment / ICC programme when I was at CHK. Was a great few days and we came out of it with a great toolkit that helped value (and develop) various assets & strategies to bring more income in. Alongside great work being done by Persatuan Cricket Indonesia / Indonesian Cricket Association - and perhaps stating the obvious, but the with populations of both nations, when cricket takes off in both places it will be a sight to see! (Nigeria Cricket Federation post re the CSM/ICC work here: http://nigeriacricket.com.ng//icc-commercial-strategy-dev/)

02.01.2022 Great to chat with Tim Wigmore on T20 and its effect on global cricket.
