23.01.2022 Private Native Forestry - Premier announces agreement on Koala SEPP PNF is to be decoupled from the Koala SEPP.
21.01.2022 WHO IS NERO? After 26 deaths in NSW last season, over 3,000 homes destroyed and more than five million hectares burnt, the first legislative changes have been f...lagged in the "Bushfires Legislation Amendment Bill 2020." https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au//Schedule%20of%20Amendme There is no indication that the RFS and public land owners will be directed to increase fuel reduction burning to a level that will give some bushfire mitigation benefits. The current targets of about one percent for The Forestry Corporation of NSW and two percent for the National Parks and Wildlife Service, set by the Rural Fire Service, are woefully inadequate. The small areas that had been burnt in the footprint of the Border Fire showed that during the main run of the fire (4 January 2020), areas that had been fuel reduced in the proceeding four years burnt at significantly lower intensity than areas with 20 or more years of fuel accumulation. Some SETA recommendations to the NSW inquiry, which appear to have been totally ignored include: Recommendation 1: It is recommended that a review be undertaken, to identify the underlying cause(s) as to why fuel reduction and in particular, FRB targets for public land managers, were reduced around 2004. Recommendation 2: It is recommended that a minimum annual target of FRB and mechanical fuel reduction target of 5 percent of the NSW native forest estate, be implemented. Recommendation 3: It is recommended that a review of the membership of the Bush Fire Co-ordinating Committee be undertaken to ensure the appropriate scientific skills lie within the Committee to ensure bush fire mitigation actions are not overwhelmed by emergency response financial, political and media demands. Recommendation 4: It is recommended that funding to the Centre for Environmental Risk Management of Bushfires be terminated and the Centre wound up. Recommendation 7: It is recommended Sections 100B through 100S (Rural Fires Act) be reviewed to ensure fuel reduction works are properly facilitated and not slowed by excessive red tape. Recommendation 9: It is recommended the Bush Fire Environmental Assessment Code Appendix Interval Table for SFAZs and LMZs be reviewed to reduce current minimum interval between fuel reduction burns. Recommendation 12: It is recommended that Section 100G(2)(c) of the Rural Fires Act and the Bush Fire Environmental Assessment Code Part 1.10, be amended to allow bush fire hazard reduction certificates to be issued for 10 years and existing certificates to be extended (rolled over), rather than a new certificate application being required each time a certificate expires. It appears that actions so far are just shuffling the deck chairs, while actions that will make a fundamental difference to bushfire mitigation have not been addressed. Photo: South East Forest National Park, fuel reduced 4 years before the Border Fire LHS and long unburnt RHS. What is more ecologically sustainable?

17.01.2022 Urban living at its best using our Natural panels . Impressive project by @tsaidesign and @sustainablehomesmelbourne. Posted by @eco_edition An existin...g inner city residence sitting above a violin shop in Collingwood, Victoria was renovated and extended to provide a sustainable and sunllt retreat for the shop owners. The old fashioned, cold and lacklustre home has been replaced with a warm, bright home with two decks and a roof top entertainers deck. It’s rare for this type of building to have access to outdoor space but this home now provides spaces to enjoy a morning coffee in the sun or a rooftop space to grow plants and entertain guests. Follow us for more inspiring sustainable design projects Designed by @tsaidesign, the levels are connected via a central stairwell with a translucent and insulated roof which floods the home with sunlight and views to the sky above. Cork flooring has been used in the open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge room, which provides the home with excellent thermal and acoustic properties. Sustainability specs: Recycled timber used internally @weathertexaus cladding used externally Cork floor planks Insulated extensively in ceiling, walls and floor Recycled bricks Self engaged door seals on base of all doors Double glazed skylights Clear Sunlite multiwall polycarbonate sheet over stair void Timber framed, double glazed windows 2000L rainwater tank Water efficient tapwear installed throughout Vertical green wall installed in stair void From the architect: Typical of these shopfront terraces, the floor plan was long, dark and narrow just 4.5m across at its widest point. Bringing light to the heart of the home would be central to the new design’s success. Architect: www.tsaidesign.com.au Via sustainablehomesmelbourne Photo credit: @tesskellyphotography
17.01.2022 Let’s hope it is agreed in Cabinet on Tuesday and it passes through parliament. Good cooperative work between NSW Farmers and Timber NSW. Well done Paul Toole and Adam Marshall
16.01.2022 A Victorian MP fighting the good fight. The Andrews Government also needs to explain how it became so compromised by Greens politics to want to end sustainable ...native timber production which provides so many socio-economic and ecological benefits. This new $10m plantation project can not replace native timber harvesting and is being rightly criticised for failing to deliver a real future for Victoria's native timber workers.
16.01.2022 It's true. Koalas are 100% not extinct in Kiwarrak State Forest. Thanks to all involved in this important work. Read more at our website:https://www.forestrycorporation.com.au//koalas-in-kiwarrak #forestry #forestmanagement #ecology #koalas #kiwarrak #stateforests #loveforests

09.01.2022 We appreciate balanced journalism but the Sydney Morning Herald is on a crusade. Look at the picture towards the end of the story with the caption - "logs pile up near the Lower Bucca State Forest where harvesting continues .........." Fake News by misrepresentation of photograph - again. The photo is of a business and their timber storage yard. Most of the timber has been in the yard a very long time. The majority of the timber was harvested on private land and not State Fo...rests. One can apparently expect nothing better than fake news from a once reputable news source. You be the judge

03.01.2022 We love forests! ForestLearning has been hitting the Far North Queensland Daintree World Heritage rainforest trails this school holidays for some R&R. Where ...have you walked to replenish after the year that's been? Image: Mossman Gorge (B. Welden, ForestLearning). We’d like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we walked, the #KukuYalanji people and pay our respects to Elders past and present. #forests #ForestLearning #nature #naturephotography #schoolholidays
