25.01.2022 Yellow Room: As an extension of last weeks slime and messy play, Raina invited the children to explore with the water, soap and a two-handled whisk. The children were very excited to experiment with this device the whisk was a complicated instrument to use. While one hand holds the handle steady, the other hand guides the handle in a circular motion. Having to use your hands independently and with different actions can be very challenging. Once this skill was mastered, our ...friends were able to see the bubbles forming. Raina promoted the children’s play by offering encouragement and guidance throughout this whole learning experience. Raina also held out the bubbles for each of the children to touch our friends marvelled in their beauty. Blue Room: The children engaged in a range of activities today. Bec and Mel offered the children a different experience for morning tea, providing them with all the fruits still whole and cutting them up to order. Bec gave the children the opportunity to explore their creativity and colour mixing using the watercolours on the concrete. We then took a close look at the peacock feathers and some printouts of peacocks, peahens and peachicks. The children were given the opportunity to draw and paint their interpretations of the feathers. When we came inside for rest time we watched a short video of the Peacock displaying his tail and listened to the sounds they make. Isabelle also offered the children an opportunity to engage in a game of fruit bingo.
22.01.2022 Yellow Room: Cristy offered the children the opportunity to do some sticker craft. The children watched as Cristy wrote their names on a piece of paper and cut up some stickers for them to use. The children then used their fine motor skills to peel the sticker off and stick it onto their paper. Once they had finished, they proudly showed it off to their peers and Educators with a big smile on their face. Green Room: The children explored some water play using whisks and soap ...to make bubbles. The children took turns spinning the whisks with help from Educators to form bubbles in the water. They used other utensils provided to scoop the bubbles up and play with them. Blue Room: The children explored a variety of different building experiences this morning. Some of the children sat in the rock-pit with Bec and created lots of wonderful things, such as whipper-snippers, fishing rods and screw-people. Other children sat with Brie under the tree and built with the small waffle blocks. They built lots of houses, rockets and even a house-rocket.
22.01.2022 Blue Room: Brie got some baby oil and flour to make some moon sand with the children. They set up their experience at the picnic table and they each poured some of the ingredients in the bowl. They watched patiently as Brie mixed the baby oil and flour together and added some rainbow glitter to give it some colour. Once it was all mixed together, Brie gave the children a handful each and they started to pressed it together to make different shapes. They commented on how soft ...the sand was and how it smelt. Yellow Room: This morning, Tahlia and Cristy invited the children to participate in some ice play at the table. There were several dinosaurs, insects and bugs in the ice. The children used paint brushes and water to slowly melt the ice and reveal all the trapped animals. The children tried many different strategies to melt the ice and screamed with joy to their friends once they were free!
20.01.2022 Yellow Room: Today the Children explored the environment as they followed their own interest and engaged in many different experiences. The children enjoyed building with blocks, playing with cars, caring for their babies and more. Blue Room: The children challenged their gross motor skills today. We started off with the big trampoline, the children were showing Mel their best tricks and jumping really high to catch the bubbles. Mel then asked the children if they would like ...to put the balance beam up really high. They waited patiently for Mel to set up the balance beam and then lined up. The children took their time finding their balance and then gingerly walked to the middle of the beam, jumping off into the sandpit. Once they had all done it a few times and gained more confidence, Bec challenged them to give her a high five as they jumped. The children smiled and laughed as they high fived Bec. Green Room: The children found the scarfs and fabric out of the peek-a-boo box on the veranda and decided to put them on their heads and spin around, they would then take the fabric off and say Boo! Educators helped to cover them back over so they could start the process again.
19.01.2022 Blue Room: Bec got out the jumping mat and invited the children up to the oval to see how far they could jump. They took their shoes and socks off while they waited patiently for their turn. They placed their feet on the mark and jumped as far as they could. Bec instructed the children to place their feet together on the mark and land on their feet after they jumped. Yellow Room: To extend on the children’s interest in our snails, Raina brought in her caterpillar for the chi...ldren to look at. Raina offered the children an opportunity to have a hold or a pat of the caterpillar. The children were very curious and asked many questions. Green Room: The children used the musical instrument's to make music by shaking the tambourines and maracas. As the children began to feel the beat of the music they got up and started to clap hands and dance, trying out lots of different dance moves and styles.
19.01.2022 Yellow Room: Today some of the children helped Raina to make some delicious blueberry muffins for our afternoon tea. The children took turns to add the different ingredients, they then watched Raina pour the mixture into Patti pans ready for the oven. Blue Room: Brie got out some paint for the children and set up some paper on the big picnic table. They used paintbrushes to dip into the fluoro colours and created some beautiful pictures. Tahlia then added some glitter into the paint and the children were so excited they mixed the colours and glitter together. They then started to paint the rocks and then did some finger and hand painting on the paper.
18.01.2022 Blue Room: We spent the morning working on our fine motor and pre-writing skills. The children collected various leaves and sticks from around the yard and carefully cut them up into smaller pieces. They then helped to cut the grass in a few spots. One of the children then requested to do some drawing with pens. They spent time drawing Christmas pictures of Santa, reindeers, dinosaurs, presents and Christmas trees. Yellow Room: Isabelle offered the children an opportunity to jump on the trampoline. Our friends were very excited to take their turn and took their shoes off quickly with the anticipation of having a jump. As each child took their turn, you could see their differing confidence levels and abilities shine through.

16.01.2022 Today, the children were busy exploring lots of creative experiences. Mel brought in a Peacock feather for us to investigate. We will use this in some activities during the week. Bec then offered shaving cream and food dye, where the children used the droppers to add a rainbow of colours. They then mixed the colours around to create some wonderful patterns. We moved on to making slime with cornflour, again adding rainbow colours to the slime. After this, we did some watercolo...ur painting and chalk drawing on the oval. Today the children were offered the opportunity to practice their cutting skills using scissors. The children helped Raina to collect some natural materials from around the yard, they picked a variety of leaves, bark and flowers. The children took a pair of scissors and cut up the natural materials, Raina and Cristy assisted the children who needed some support to operate the scissors safely. The Greenies wanted to play in the sandpit this morning. Rhiannon uncovered the sandpit and Tammie got out some buckets and shovels. Children sat in the sand and filled their buckets with wet sand. Tammie and Rhiannon then assisted children with turning the buckets over and lifting them off. They quickly smashed their sandcastle down and filled the bucket up again to repeat. Tammie added some shaped moulds to the sandpit for children to try for themselves.
15.01.2022 Today the children were busy with natural collage, paper and glitter creations, chalk drawing and building birds nests. Mel then invited the children to make some mini volcanos. Each child had a glass with some bi-carb soda in it and selected what colour food dye they wanted to add to their vinegar bottle. Then, it was time to squeeze lots of ooh's and aaahhh’s and excitement around the group as they all watched on waiting for their own turn. Through these experiences, the ...children are developing their fine motor skills, creative ideas, turn-taking, sharing and beginning to understand basic science experiments. This morning the Greenies had the opportunity to create some works of art using different forms of media. Tammie gave children a permanent marker and asked them to draw a picture of themselves with an Educator. Children then used the marker to make swirls and lines to represent their picture. To extend on their picture and add a different media to it, Tammie offered some watercolours, children painted using a fine paintbrush and added some colour to their portraits. Today the children joined Raina and Cristy for some stencilling. The children choose the stencils they wanted to trace, they used different coloured and lead pencils to created different pictures using their stencils. The children talked with their peers and educators as they discussed the different shapes and pictures they were tracing.
15.01.2022 Yellow Room: Raina and Cristy offered the children the opportunity to engage in a playdoh experience. First, the children helped to make the playdoh, smelling all of the ingredients before carefully adding them in and mixing them together. When the playdoh was ready, the children each got a piece and got to work making some marvellous creations. Blue Room: One of the children was very excited to bring his pet chicks in to share with his peers. The four chicks came in a box wi...th some straw and we were able to feed them some food and water. We observed them scratching around in the straw. Mel asked why they would do that and the children answered with just because. Mel then explained that they would be looking for little bugs or scraps of food to eat. Mel picked up one of the chicks and held it out for the children to pat, they commented that it was very soft. Many of the children were excited to tell their peers and Mel about their own chickens at home. See more
14.01.2022 Yellow Room: Today the children engaged in some sticker craft and crayon drawings with Cristy and Tahlia. The children chose what stickers they wanted to use, they peeled the back off and stuck them to their paper. Some of the children added some Crayon to their paper to create different scenes such as a dinosaur park and a magic mermaid pond. Blue Room: Mel and the children set up an obstacle course with the stepping stones, half Bosu ball, hurdles, balance beam and basketba...ll hoop. They all waited patiently for their turn and began hopping from one stepping stone to another. The hurdles created a bit of a challenge as these are new, so the children started off by stepping over them slowly. They made their way up the incline of the balance beam and then waited at the end for Mel to pass them the ball to throw in the basketball hoop. The children jumped off the beam and continued on the stepping stones to the large log then bounced on the half Bosu ball before returning to the start of the circuit and repeating the process, becoming quicker and more confident. Green Room: The children were excited to play with some of our new resources as they explored the new balls for our basketball hoop and the sensory stepping stones on the footpath. The children tossed the balls into the hoop and would call out Tammie see to make sure Tammie was watching. Rhiannon helped the children as they walked over the stepping stones, children would stop every now and then to feel the different textures on the stones with their hands.

13.01.2022 Yellow Room: Today the children were excited to participate in a golf ball painting experience. First, the children engaged in a group painting, they held onto a big piece of cardboard and worked together to move the golf balls around the cardboard and through the paint. When the children were finished they then had a turn at their own individual golf painting. Blue Room: Bec offered the children an opportunity to challenge their jumping skills and to see how far the children... could jump. They placed their feet on the feet symbols at the line and bent down to push off and jump as far as possible. Some of the children were jumping and diving, but Bec encouraged them to have another turn and try and land on their feet. Everyone was very excited to see how far they had jumped. Green Room: The children explored the Ice blocks that we made yesterday. They gathered around the trough and looked at the ice with bugs and flowers frozen inside. They touched the ice and laughed pulling their hands away then touching it again and feeling the cold sensations. Tammie then poured a little water over each block to help it start to melt. The children splashed in the water, laughing as the ice melted and pieces broke off.
12.01.2022 Yellow Room: The children joined Cristy at the picnic table to look at our snails. The children helped to check they had enough food. They then took turns having a hold of the snails and watching them move around on their hands and arms. Some of the children were content to just watch the snails as they moved about on the table. Blue Room: Mel invited the children to assist her with watering the gardens. She got out the watering cans and let the children pick which one they w...anted to use. Once they had picked one, they waited patiently at the water tank to have their cans filled with our recycled water. They walked over to the gardens and watered the plants, with assistance from Mel on where to share their water. Green Room: The children explored the stacking blocks, musical instruments and baby toys this morning. Tammie helped the children to place the blocks on top of each other to form a tall stack. The younger children played the musical instruments, shaking them to make sounds.
12.01.2022 Blue Room: The Blue Room children had lots of wonderful learning experiences to explore inside today. They worked on their fine motor skills while constructing with the small wheels, helped to build a dinosaur, used their pre-reading and pre-writing skills to write their names and make them with letter stickers, did some chalk drawing and reading. We then worked together to start chipping away at a dinosaur fossil, taking turns to use the knife and chisel to see if we could find any bones. We will continue to work on this tomorrow.
11.01.2022 Yellow Room: Today the children were excited to hold the caterpillar again. Raina took Cuddles the caterpillar out of his container and offered the children a hold or a pat. The children put out their hands to have a hold and Raina placed the caterpillar on each of their hands. The children held him up and watched him closely. Blue Room: The children explored their fundamental movement skills today. We started bouncing and jumping on the trampoline while counting and singing ABC. Mel then put the balance beam as high as it could go and the children balanced to the middle and jumped off. Mel challenged the children’s skills by asking them to give her a high five as they jumped, stretching and leaping further to reach her.
10.01.2022 Yellow Room: Raina and Cristy offered the children the opportunity to extend on their bubble experience from yesterday. The children helped to add some bubble mixture to the water and then took turns making the bubbles using an egg beater. They then continued to add conditioner, glitter and shaving foam and watched what happened to the bubbles as they did. They took time to smell each of the ingredients and listened as the bubbles slowly popped. Blue Room: We had a busy morning painting with the food dye, trying to create some beautiful patterns like in our peacock feathers we explored yesterday. Isabelle then spent some time reading and counting with the children before offering a writing and drawing experience at the picnic table.
09.01.2022 The children requested to have their faces painted today. After morning tea, Bec invited them down to the oval to have their turn. While they sat and chatted to their friends, they discussed the different characters they wanted to become. As the paint was placed on the children’s faces, they commented on how it felt cold and how it tickled when it touched their nose. As the paint began to dry, some of the children also talked about how it felt hard on their faces. The Green...ies engaged in various experiences this morning that support the development of their fine and gross motor skills as they pushed trucks around, placed coins in the piggy banks. Our younger Greenies have been practicing their crawling, rolling over and tummy time. Through these experiences, the children are developing their fine and gross motor skills and strengthening their large and small muscles for physical development. Today the children were excited to use the scissors to cut up some natural materials we found around the yard. The children cut up the leaves and flowers, we then decided to make some sensory bags using our clippings. Cristy and Tahlia helped the children to add some water, shaving foam and water to the sensory bags. The children then explored the different bags, feeling them and squeezing them. Through these experiences the children are exploring their sense of touch as they feel the different textures and the different temperatures such as warm and cold. They are also developing their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they hold and cut with their scissors.
08.01.2022 Blue Room: The children had lots of experiences to explore. Bec invited them to do some watercolour painting on the concrete. Mel offered a cutting and collage activity. We then moved on to finishing off our fossil dig from last week. All the bones were found and Bec helped to put the T-Rex skeleton together. Mel then invited the children to do some painting with toy cars and worked on creating some garden fertiliser using banana peels the children cut up and water. Now we wa...it for it to ferment before using it in our gardens. Yellow Room: The children enjoyed expressing themselves through some cork painting. We received a generous donation of corks from a community member so Raina and Cristy offered the children the opportunity to use the corks in their art work. The children used a variety of different coloured paints to dab their corks and make an impression on their paper. The children also used their fingers to make patterns in the paint. Green Room: The children continued with their portrait art today. The children used the permanent marker to draw their picture and the watercolours to transform their drawing into a work of art.
07.01.2022 Blue Room: Bec invited the children to come and have a turn of the obstacle course today. They helped to reset the hurdles that had been knocked over, then lined up at the big sandpit and waited for their turn. They took turns running towards the hurdles, some children running straight over them, while others slowed and either stepped over them or jumped with both feet together. Once over the hurdles, they had to negotiate their way across the stepping stones. Many of the ...children repeated this process several times. Yellow Room: Raina and Cristy offered the children the opportunity to try some of the delicious fruits, vegetables and edible flowers we have growing in the garden. The children decided what they wanted to taste. They could choose from carrots, mandarins, mulberries or edible flowers. Some of the children were brave enough to try everything, while others only tried certain things. The children would comment that it tasted yummy or yucky and said that it smelled nice. Green Room: The children created some sticker art on paper this morning. Tammie peeled the backing off the stickers and handed children a sticker, they then placed their sticker on the paper. This was a small challenge for children as they worked out how to peel the sticker off their finger and place it on the paper. Some times it took many attempts to get the sticker into position and get it onto the paper.
07.01.2022 Over the last few weeks, the children have been very interested in colours and mixing colours. Yesterday afternoon, Mel invited the children to do some dot painting with food dye and cotton buds. Extending on this, Brie and Bec got out the food dye, eye droppers and straws. We explained how to blow the paint around on the page using the straws to create lots of wonderful patterns, also leading to mixing and creating new colours. Today Isabelle offered the children the opport...unity to help her build a climbing support for the loofah seeds they planted last week. Isabelle found some sticks they could use, the children carried the sticks to the garden bed and helped to hold them in place as Isabelle tied them together. Once the climbing support was in place the children asked if they could use the watering cans to give them a water. The children were excited to fill their watering cans and water the seedlings. 07.01.2022 Yellow Room: Raina and Cristy offered the children the opportunity to engage in a jumping experience with our new long jump mat. The children took turns to stand on the feet and jump as far as they could, looking at the measurements on the mat to see how far they jumped. The children continued to extend on this experience by running up to it from a distance and lying down on it to see how tall they were. Some of the children even attempted some roly-polys. Green Room: Tammie ...made some sensory bags filled with oil and water. The children gathered to explore the bags, they ran their fingers over the bags and separated the water bubbles and watched as they floated through the oil. The children soon realised if they tapped the bag continuously the water bubbles would break up into smaller bubbles, this created a lot of laughter as they explored the bags. Blue Room: Mel offered the children the opportunity to do some threading using leaves and dried pasta. The children waited patiently while Mel tied knots in the end and then began carefully threading the dried pasta onto the thread. Mel demonstrated how to create a hole in the dried leaves to be able to thread them on and the children quickly copied and started filling the strings up. Mel tied knots in the end and then we hung some of our decorations on the big tree in the backyard.
05.01.2022 To follow on from our sensory play, Tammie blitzed up some Jatz biscuits in the blender to make some edible sand. Children were excited to see what was in the tray and gathered around to investigate. Children then pushed the trucks around the tray moving the sand around. After a while, one of the children noticed a full Jatz biscuit in the tray and held it up. Tammie explained to the children that the sand was a crushed up Jatz and showed children by tasting some. Children th...en excitedly began tasting the sand during their play. Yellow Room: This morning Raina offered the children the opportunity to have their faces painted. The children patiently lined up with their friends and waited for a turn each as they spoke about what different superheroes, animals and characters they wanted to be. Blue Room: Mel set up the balance beam for the children today and then gave the children different sized balls to roll along the beam. They paired up with a friend and sat on either end of the balance beam and started with the exercise ball and attempted to roll it to each other. The children commented that they couldn’t see each other but still attempted to roll the large ball to their peer blindly. They cheered when the ball stayed balanced on the beam and reached their friend. Next, the children attempted the same process with the medicine ball and a tennis ball. We came to the conclusion that the larger the ball the easier it was to balance on the beam.
05.01.2022 We recently acquired a marble track which the children have been exploring and experimenting with. Mel brought in marbles for the children to continue their exploration. They built a variety of tracks and observed how the marble rolled down the track and through the obstacles, the children changed parts that didn’t work very well and tried again watching the marble make it all the way to the bottom. They began negotiating and sharing with their peers, exhibiting teamwork to c...ome up with the best results. Through this experience, the children are developing their problem-solving skills when building the tracks. They are hypothesising, observing and predicting how well the marble will roll down a certain track. They are working as part of a team with their peers, negotiating and sharing to reach an end result all whilst developing their fine motor skills. Today the children enjoyed some fun physical activity. They tested their balance and coordination as they engage in different physical activities such as the climbing the rock wall, sliding down the fireman pole and swinging on the swings. The children took turns and played followed a game of the leader and copied each others actions. Tammie filled the blue trough up with water and invited the children to come and play. Children gathered to splash in the cool water and wet themselves. Tammie then turned the hose on and pointed it in the air, children laughed as the water gently rained down on them. Children then took the watering cans over and watered all of our beautiful plants. When we finished our water play children helped to tip the water from the trough onto our mandarin tree.
05.01.2022 Yellow Room: This morning, Raina offered the children the opportunity to have their faces painted on the oval. The children ran over excitedly and patiently lined up with their friends waiting for a turn. They picked what colours they wanted Raina to use and what they wanted to be painted on their faces. Blue Room: Mel offered the children an opportunity to explore their creativity using crayons and oil pastels. Mel set up the A-frame and stuck some paper on there for the children to create their artworks. We also had clipboards for some of the other children. They set about selecting their colours and telling Mel what they had selected and then began drawing on the paper. We had a variety of fruits and vegetables being drawn and lots of pictures for mum and dad.
05.01.2022 Yellow Room: Today the children were excited to create a painting at the easel. The children dipped their paintbrushes into the different coloured paints and created their artworks. They engaged in conversation with their peers and educators about what they were drawing. Green Room: The children spent the morning riding the trikes and crawling through the tunnel together. Tammie then got out our new balls and pumped them up. The children took the balls to the basketball hoop ...and tossed them in. The children enjoyed rolling the balls through the tunnel to each other. Blue Room: Bec offered the children the opportunity to challenge their jumping skills. We got a new mat recently that has measurement’s on it for the children to see how far they can jump. The children placed their feet on the feet symbols at the line and watched Bec demonstrate how to bend and then jump as far as they could. Some of the children were jumping and diving, but Bec encouraged them to have another turn and try and land on their feet. Everyone was very excited to see how far they had jumped.
04.01.2022 Yellow Room: Today the children were very excited to help Raina open our new basketball hoop. When Raina finished setting the basketball hoop up, the children waited patiently for their turn. They all had a turn trying to get the ball into the hoop. Raina adjusted the height of the hoop so everyone had an opportunity to dunk the ball. They were all so excited to show us how clever they were at getting the ball into the hoop. Green Room: The Greenies explore a variety of diffe...rent experiences that engaged their fine motor skills and cognitive thinking. Using the watercolours children manipulated the paintbrushes to create strokes of colour across their paper. While playing with the blocks children used their cognitive thinking and problem-solving skills to put the blocks together and pull them apart to change the look of their towers while strengthening the fine muscles in their hands in preparation of school readiness. Blue Room: Some of the children helped Bec to pick some leaves so we could do some cutting. The children were invited down to the oval to continue working on their fine motor and cutting skills. They waited patiently for their turn and talked about the different shapes they were cutting and how some leaves and branches were harder to cut than others. Some of the children very carefully cut along the veins in the leaves to make different patterns.
03.01.2022 Green Room: The children spent the morning engaging in some individual play exploring different experiences. The children explored their images in the mirror, worked on tummy time and played with the sensory bottles.
03.01.2022 Green Room: Mel brought in some herb seedlings for our garden. Tammie then helped the children prepare a pot of soil and plant some Oregano and Dill. The children then gathered the watering cans and took turns to fill their can and water the new plants.
02.01.2022 Yellow and Blue Room: Today the children were very curious to look at a cicada coming out of its shell that Raina had found in the garden. Cristy put the cicada into a bug catcher container so the children could observe it. The children watched and asked questions with Tahlia as it continued emerging from its shell. Green Room: The children helped to pick the strawberries that we have been growing. They helped Tammie to identify which strawberries were ready to eat and then Tammie snipped them off the vine with scissors and took them inside to wash them. The children then enjoyed eating our freshly grown strawberries.
02.01.2022 Yellow Room: Brie offered the children the opportunity to do some painting. The children used a variety of coloured paint with glitter on it and some different shaped sponges to roll, dab and sponge different shapes and patterns onto their paper. The children made many different creations. Blue Room: The children explored their environment. We used the garden forks to dig up our dirt patch. The children made lots of comments about the forks going into the earth really easy and we spoke about the rain making the ground soft. Next, the children helped Mel clean out the chicken coop. When we opened the door we noticed the wood shavings were quite wet, so we cleaned out the whole house making sure to get all the wet shavings out. The children also enjoyed hand feeding the chicken with seed from the feeder.
01.01.2022 Blue Room: Today, the children were eager to use their energy exploring their gross motor skills. We started off with the big trampoline, one of the children suggested we use the stepping stones as a path to get onto it, we sang ABC while the children took a turn on the trampoline. Next, we got out the jumping mat and tested out our agility and leaping skills. The children wanted more of a challenge so they included the hula hoops and a circular foam shape to jump over. Yel...low Room: Today, Cristy bought in some slime crystals to make with the children. The children joined Cristy as she added water and the crystals into a bucket and stirred it all until it thickened. The children were very curious, commenting on the colour, texture and smell of the slime. Once it was thick enough, Cristy poured the contents of the bucket into the trough and the children took turns putting their hands in and feeling it. They moved the mixture around the trough and through their fingers, lifting it into the air and watching it pour down. Cristy then added some bubble bath to the slime and the children mixed it around and made it more bubbly, also thickening the slime some more. Green Room: The Greenies helped Tammie to set up the pool and fill it with some water, they then added some small buckets and got into the pool for a ‘swim’. The children splashed around in the water. They filled the buckets with water and poured them over themselves, their peers and educators, laughing and smiling the whole time. The children really enjoyed the cool sensation of the water. Once they had finished playing in the water, everyone grabbed a bucket and helped to scoop the water out of the pool and pour it over our very thirsty plants.
