20.01.2022 Did you know that landfill is a major source of greenhouse gases? In 2017, Australian landfill produced 12.6 million tonnes of C02 and CH4, up 1% from 2016. Methane is an extremely potent greenhouse gas, 20 times more effective at trapping heat then carbon dioxide. Methane is created in landfill due to the anoxic (low or little oxygen) environment in which food and green waste breaks down. This is due to tips being sealed with clay and other materials to trap gases undergro...und. Gas of course always finds a way out and methane in the Atmosphere will stick around for over 150 years. Waste can take decades to break down and as such landfills will be a toxic source of these gases for a long time to come. Methane capture and recycling are decreasing emissions since 2005 however with a rising population this is predicted to rise into the future. How can I Act Now? Green waste and food waste can be easily diverted. Install a compost bin in your garden now! This will make your garden bloom and increase drought resistance through increasing water retention. Green waste is a misnomer and should be called free mulch. Cut these up and mulch away! Make a pledge never to put food or garden waste into landfill today and we can make an enormous impact together.

03.01.2022 Electric/hydrogen cars are the future. Unfortunately someone has decided there isnt a market in Australia. They talk about range, about charging stations, etc.. Meaning they are expensive here and hard to find. If everyone holds off from purchasing a new car that burns fossil fuels this will change. Make a pledge to not buy a fossil fueled car new from any dealership until we have electric or hydrogen cars on price parity.
