16.01.2022 Thunderstorms warning for tomorrow! Take the time now to prepare your dogs before tomorrow evening especially if you know they are frightened of storms or if they’re a rescue and you don’t yet know how they will react. Make sure they are somewhere safe, secure and comfortable and preferably inside maybe in their crate, turn on some loud music and familiar house sounds like fans and washing machines to help drown out the noise, close the curtains, and give them distraction...s like treat balls and puzzles. Calming products like thundershirts, rescue remedy, natural calming tablets, vet prescribed medication, adaptil products, essential oil sprays designed for dogs etc may also help. Make sure outdoor dogs have also have secure fences, somewhere safe to hide like a garage and make sure they have up to date microchip details and ID on their collars in case they do escape. We haven’t had too many thunderstorms storms for a while so this may be the first storms that many young dogs and puppies will experience. Set them up for a positive experience during the storm so try playing games, doing some fun training, let them eat their meals, play with some treat toys, hide treats for a treasure hunt etc so that they don’t develop a fear of thunder in the future.
