25.01.2022 BENEFICIAL BATHS. Baths are a wonderful way to relax and forget about your worries for a little while. If you have access to a bath here are some things you can do to get even more out of your bath-time. EPSOM SALTS BATH Add 2 cups Epsom salts to a warm bath while the water is running. Fill to the level and temperature you want, climb in slowly and soak for 15-20 minutes.... You can do this two-three times a week if you wish. Epsom salts contains magnesium sulfate which is absorbed through the skin. It draws out toxins, sedates the nervous system, reduces swelling, loosens muscles, relieves muscular aches and pains and is a natural emollient and exfoliator. You can purchase Epsom salts from Stockfeed suppliers in bulk or from the supermarket, chemists and some gift and body care shops. * essential oils can be added to the bath (a few drops) but only use if they have been recommended to you by someone qualified in the use of essential oils ( an aromatherapist) as there are contra-indications that you need to be aware of. THE SHAMAN’S BATH 1/2 cup baking sofa 1/2 cup Celtic sea salt 10 drops sage essential oil Pour ingredients into the bath as you are filling it with warm water. Soak for 20 minutes. Rinse off. Go straight to bed. This is a very cleansing and healing bath. Sage is used by the Shamans throughout the Americas to smudge or cleans, the energy of a person or place. You can repeat this bath as often as you like and it is especially beneficial if you have days of fasting. MILK AND HONEY BATH 1 cup boiling water 1 cup honey 2 cups milk (organic if possible) 1/2 cup Celtic sea salt 3 Tablespoons baking powder A few drops of lavender essential oil (optional)(avoid if pregnant). Mix the honey into the boiling water and stir until dissolved, add the milk and stir well. While running the bath add the salt and baking powder, then add the honey and milk mixture to the bath just before getting in. This bath exfoliates and nourishes the skin, soothes and heals irritations and infections, slows the aging process and leaves you feeling calm and refreshed. Milk and honey have anti-microbial properties and antioxidants that help make this bath very beneficial. So give these baths a go and enjoy the benefits!

23.01.2022 MASSAGE AND PAIN RELIEF We all suffer from pain of some sort from time to time. When pain is persistent or chronic it takes a physical, social, mental and emotional toll on us. It can be difficult to function well and it can quite literally stop us in our tracks. While pain/anti-inflammatory medication and muscle rubs can give some relief it’s often only temporary and they can be addictive and harmful to our overall health with long-term use.... Massage, on the other hand is totally natural and has been proven to be hugely successful in the treatment/maintenance of pain causing issues. Whether the cause of pain is stress related (tension headache), from poor posture, repetitive activity, general wear and tear, medical condition or an injury, massage helps by: Reducing inflammation, increases blood flow to tight muscles, flooding them with nutrients and oxygen and carrying away waste products, helping the muscles to ‘relax down’. Massage releases endorphins- our natural pain relievers that diminish our perception of pain, allowing the body a chance to relax and heal. Working to release trigger points and tight areas of facia (connective tissue around muscle) eases muscle tension, allowing the muscle to lengthen, improving range of movement, reducing stress on joints, muscle imbalances, pain and stiffness. Depending on each individuals’ requirements, several massage treatments could be needed and initially two or three massages in a week may be needed to make a real difference. If you are experiencing pain that needs massage work to help ease it or you would like to talk to me further about your specific problem area/s please feel free to contact me on 0408426758 or message me through my Facebook business page to book an appointment or to discuss things further. I look forward to helping you manage your pain better or to become pain free! See more

18.01.2022 DRY SKIN BRUSHING - A greatly beneficial way to start your day is to spend a few minutes dry brushing before your morning shower! With the skin being the body’s largest elimination organ it is important to take care of it. By dry brushing regularly it: *Stimulates the lymphatic system, strengthening your immunity ... *Aids digestion and kidney function *Removes dead skin cells and outer impurities, promotes cell renewal *Helps the body to discharge metabolic waste *Helps the skin to absorb nutrients *Increases blood circulation * Stimulates acupressure points *Stimulates the liver and adrenal glands which helps them to decongest and release their toxins. How to dry brush: * Get yourself a good, natural bristle body brush * Always use it completely dry, using long gentle strokes, working towards the heart. Your skin should feel slightly tingly, not irritated and red. *I like to start on the neck, then brushing in a downwards direction down the midline to the top of the pubic bone. I then do the arms starting from the shoulder, brushing in an upward direction working down the arm towards the hand. Then work the chest and abdominal area, brushing towards the midline. Next I do the back, starting with the shoulder region, working down towards the hip area, the gluteal area is next, working in an upward diagonal direction towards the spine. Lastly brushing the legs, starting from the top of the leg, brushing in an upward direction, working down towards the feet, finishing with the soles of your feet. *Once finished enjoy a shower to remove any remaining dead skin cells and debris. * Have a glass of water. * Clean your dry skin brush every two weeks with soap and water and allow to dry naturally. 1. 17.01.2022 Hello everyone! Who loves a good soup or stew/casserole at this time of year? They are easy to make but it is important to start with a good quality bone/meat stock. Here’s how to make your own: Lamb, pork, beef or game ... Put the joints, bones and meat into a large pot, add 5-10 peppercorns, add salt to taste (Celtic sea or Himalayan rock salt is best) and fill it up with filtered water. Heat up to boiling point. Cover the pan, reduce the heat to a minimum and simmer for at least 3 hours, the longer you cook the meat and bones the more nutritious your stock will be. Remove the bones and meat and pour stock through a sieve into a clean pan to remove any small bones and peppercorns. Chicken stock. Put a whole or half a chicken (and a couple of chicken feet if desired - these are available from good butcher shops) into a large pot, fill with filtered water, add salt and heat to boiling. Simmer for 1 1/2-2 hours. Remove chicken and put stock through sieve. Keep in the fridge. The cooked chicken can be served for dinner with vegetables and a cup of your freshly made chicken stock or used with some of your stock to make up a soup or stew. Fish stock. To make a good fish stock you need bones, fins, skin and heads of the fish, not the meat. Buy your fish whole and cut off the meat yourself or get the fishmonger to do it for you. Put the heads, bones, fins and skin into a large pan, add 8-10 peppercorns and fill the pan with filtered water. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 1-1 1/2 hours. Add salt to taste at the end of cooking. Remove the bones etc. and sieve the stock. Take any remaining meat off the fish skeleton and use in your soup. Add vegetables of your choice to the stock to create your own soup, stew or casserole or just warm up a cup full and sip on it while having your meal to help stimulate the digestive juices. ENJOY! NOTE: cylindrical bones are best as they contain very nutritious bone marrow. Ask your butcher to cut these bones into sections to expose the marrow. Grass fed animals and organic or free range poultry are better to use than totally grain fed animals because of the gluten content in their meat. You can also add 2 Tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to the stock when cooking as this helps draw out the nutrients from the meat and bones. See more

16.01.2022 HOW HEALTHY IS YOUR GUT? Part Two. In part one I mentioned that we have a multitude of different gut flora that are responsible for a range of duties and that everything works well until there is an imbalance in the various types of gut flora. I am going to focus on a type of fungus that lives naturally within the gut that aids digestion and nutrient absorption- CANDIDA ALBICANS. When levels of candida rise beyond your good gut floras ability to maintain a balance, the candid...Continue reading

15.01.2022 I have been a massage therapist for 26 years now and am amazed at how fast that time has gone. I became a therapist by chance, really, with a good friend of mine, who was interested in doing a course in massage asking me if I would like to do a course with her. I agreed as I didn't have much happening in my life at the time. I have to admit that I was a bit sceptical as the people that I had known who were into massage at the time were VERY alternate, not that there is any th...ing wrong with that type of lifestyle but as a young person, I found it a bit 'out there'! A year later we graduated, having completed a diploma in Remedial massage. We did further training to get us the skills that we wanted to be able to treat a variety of issues and to meet client needs. After all these years and many, many massages later, I feel very privileged to have been in a position to help people feel less stressed, get through a pregnancy better and recover afterwards, manage their Lymphatic issues, and help them with repetitive strain, work and sports injuries, disabilities, sciatica and other problems that people have to deal with where massage and corrective exercises help. I have met people who have made me laugh and made me cry and some who have challenged the way that I look at life and perceive things. Most of them have been wonderful people who have made my life richer for having had them a part of my journey in this career and I thank them all for that. As 2019 draws to an end I would like to thank all my regular clients for being the awesome people they are, for the hard work they have put into being able to function better, for becoming parents to gorgeous babies, some first timers, and for choosing me to help them with their own unique journey. I look forward to continuing to offer a high standard service to people, both current regular clients and new ones into the future. I wish you all the very best! Jenny weal See more

13.01.2022 Hi everyone! I would really like your feedback on this please. When you’re thinking about having a massage what are the main things you consider to be important when choosing a therapist and the type of treatment/s that will best meet your needs at that time? Kind regards Jenny

11.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE. The current situation as of today is that the State Government has relaxed the restrictions on Remedial and Therapeutic massage ( this does NOT include massage parlours or beauty therapist related massage). So if you are well and in need of a Remedial massage, I will be seeing clients who have a genuine need to have treatment/s. I have included some information about symptoms of COVID-19, how it compares to the common cold and regular flu and the recommended method for hand washing. NB: the same routine is used for hand rub/sanitiser (which should only be used if soap and water are not available).

11.01.2022 HOW HEALTHY IS YOUR GUT? PART ONE. Having poor gut health affects our immune system, disrupts the endocrine system (our hormones), impacts our weight, mood, memory, learning ability, behaviour and energy level. Us adults have about 1.5-2kg of microflora in our digestive system. These bacteria are responsible for carrying out various tasks. GOOD or friendly bacteria regulate the gut by neutralising some toxic by-products of digestion; control metabolism, prevents the growth of... harmful, pathogenic bacteria; reduce harmful substances such as carcinogens and toxins; collecting and absorbing energy, nutrients and fatty acids from the food we eat; recycling hormones; maintaining the immune system and communicating with the brain. BAD BACTERIA are capable of causing disease in the body by producing infection and increasing cancer risk. A healthy gut flora balance is 85 per cent good bacteria and 15 per cent bad bacteria. An imbalance in these types of gut flora has been linked to the development of a range of illnesses, from autism and depression to autoimmune conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia to name just a few. An imbalance between the good and bad gut flora is caused by a poor diet- high sugar, carbohydrates, preservatives and additives, antibiotics, the contraceptive pill, steroids, excessive alcohol consumption, tap water (which contains chemicals, ie chlorine and fluoride) which kill off the good bacteria and creates the perfect breeding ground for the bad bacteria to increase dramatically. Next week I will discuss one particular common type of gut flora and it’s affects and what you can do to deal with it. Yours in good health. Jenny See more

10.01.2022 WAYS TO NATURALLY IMPROVE YOUR IMMUNITY. With winter upon us and many people battling with colds, the flu or a virus it’s good to know that there are natural ways to give your immune system a boost to help you ward off becoming unwell in the first place or to help your body recover better. By taking care of our gut,(which contains about 80% of the body’s immune cells) we will reduce our likelihood of becoming sick. Things that you can do to boost your immunity: 1. Take a broa...Continue reading

10.01.2022 CHALLENGE IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH WITH WATER We hear that we should be drinking it regularly but how much and why? Us humans are about 75%water, the brain and heart are 73% water, blood 20%, the lungs 83%, the skin 64%, muscle tissue and kidneys 79% even our bones are 31% water. Without it at all we would die within about three to four days.... Not long is it!? As for how much, this depends on age, weight, gender where you live and the amount of physical activity you do. A guide that I was taught is to weigh yourself and then for every kilogram of body weight you should drink 30 ml of water. Example: 72kg devided by 30 is 2.4. So that person would need to drink about 2.4 litres of water daily to stay well hydrated and healthy. During and after physical activity, if you live in a hot climate or if you drink caffeinated and/or alcoholic drinks, you need to drink extra water to make up for the dehydrating effect these things have on your body. By drinking adequate water, your energy levels will rise, you will be mentally ‘sharper’, look younger and have less skin problems, your joints will be better lubricated, causing less pain, connective tissue becomes more flexible and muscles perform better. Weight loss is easier as it helps burn fat, reduces that hungry feeling and flushes toxins from the body. It reduces constipation, bladder, liver and kidney problems, headaches, high blood pressure, the severity of asthma, allergies and high cholesterol. It also improves your immunity because the Lymphatic system will function better! So my challenge to you is to make a conscious effort to increase your water consumption. Start with a glass of water first thing in the morning. Carry a water bottle 800-1000ml with you and have frequent drinks. Have a glass of water after caffeine or alcohol and before, during and after physical activity. Ideally water should be consumed 30 minutes before a meal to allow the stomach acidity to build back up before eating. Having clear soups, herbal teas and plenty of fresh vegetables, a couple of pieces of fruit daily also count in your daily water intake. You can also add lemon or lime juice, ginger, a tiny amount of Celtic sea or Himalayan rock salt and or a little honey to the water and have it warm if you wish. NOTE: spring or filtered water is best as it doesn’t contain contaminates such as chlorine. Let me know if you would like to take on this challenge and keep me posted on your progress and how having an increase in water makes you feel. I hope that you’re ready to start feeling and living better. Yours in good health. Jenny See more

08.01.2022 Massage during pregnancy- what are the benefits? With all the physical, structural and psychological changes that occur during pregnancy and the aches and discomfort that grow as your baby/ies grow, it’s good to know that there are many benefits to having a massage that help to relieve these symptoms throughout pregnancy. Massage: Helps increase circulation, transporting oxygen and nutrients to the cells, providing your baby with a better nutrient and oxygen supply.... Improves circulation, reducing the chance of varicose veins forming. Helps to soften the muscles around the lungs and thoracic cage, increasing your breathing capacity and providing more oxygen to your baby. Improves the skins elasticity, increases flexibility and tone of the muscles which can help ease muscle cramps and reduce stress on weight bearing joints. Calms the nervous system which helps improve sleep quality which leads to healthier growth in your baby. Helps to reduce lower back and sciatic pain associated with pregnancy and the lumbosacral tilt that occurs in pregnancy. Stimulates the endocrine system and the associated glands, helping to stabilise and reduce stress hormones to the baby. Relaxes tense shoulders, chest and back and helps to prepare you for the breastfeeding stage when you will be leaning over your baby a lot. Helps maintain correct posture reducing shoulder, neck and lower back pain. Reduces the stress on the Lymphatic system, minimising fluid retention. Women who have regular massage throughout pregnancy tend to have fewer complications through their delivery as well as fewer postnatal issues leading to shorter hospital stays, shorter labour times and less postnatal depression. When shouldn’t you have a massage during pregnancy? If your health care professional advises you against it. If you are in a high risk pregnancy category or have previously had a premature labour. If you have pregnancy induced hypertension (high blood pressure). If you have pre-eclampsia or if you experience severe headaches. Just remember that all pregnancies are different and if you have had issues with a previous pregnancy, it doesn’t mean that your current or next pregnancy is going to be problematic however please consult your doctor before having massages. Always see a therapist who is qualified in pregnancy massage to ensure that you are being treated by a therapist that has the knowledge, understanding and experience in this area to provide you with the best level of care throughout your pregnancy.

05.01.2022 ‘STRESS ‘ We all experience it but what is it and what can we do to manage it? The stress that I am referring to is: a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances. Stress is categorised into three different types: acute, episodic and chronic stress. ACUTE STRESS is caused by the daily demands and pressures that we encounter and is experienced over a very short period of time. It could be caused by an argument with someone o...r an exam that is coming up or Tax time. To help manage acute stress you can do breathing exercises, learn how to look at situations in a different way (cognitive reframing), progressive muscle relaxation- where you tense and then relax all of the major muscles in your body in order from your head to your feet, releasing physical tension more effectively, mini- meditation and regular massage. EPISODIC STRESS is when acute stress happens frequently. People who always seem to be having a crisis experience this type of stress. They are often short tempered, irritable and anxious. Also people who tend to see the negative side of everything experience this type of stress. Learning to see the world in a more positive way (expert help may be needed for this) and using relaxation methods listed above can help too. CHRONIC STRESS is stress that is constant and doesn’t go away. Causes could be: poverty/ financial issues, a dysfunctional family, an unhappy marriage, work/job demands/ situations, trauma, loss etc. Chronic stress can lead to a host of health problems including cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal problems, anxiety, depression and suicidal tendencies. To help manage chronic stress seek expert help where necessary, exercise regularly, maintain a healthy diet, cultivate supportive relationships, meditate regularly, listen to music and have regular massage.
