Easy right....I was shocked yesterday when a maths tutor told me one of his students, being tutored in preparation for the Year 10 HSC Minimum standard Maths test, did not know the answer. This is just one example of the benefits of learning your times tables. If this student had known their 4 or ...6 times tables the answer would have been on the tip of their tongue. Friday's fun Times Tables Champion tip comes from our most senior Times Tables Champion: "Even though there are 144 tables when learning your 1-12 times tables, you only need to know 72 answers, so once you've learnt 1 set of tables you actually know the answers to 24 tables not just 12. For example 7 x 9 = 63 and 9 x 7 = 63, so if you know your 9 times tables but not your 7's and are asked what 7 x 9 is, you can just flip it around to 9 x 7 and there is your answer and so on for every single table." When young students first work this out it is always a wonderful light bulb moment! Learning your times tables just got that much easier. Yay!

I grew up playing euchre, 21, gin rummy, monopoly & scrabble and many more games and never reflected on the benefits they gave me aside from the fact that they were fun! There are many benefits of card and board games but to name a few: * Social interaction - fabulous for breaking down barriers. Often children who have never met before can form a quick connection after playing a few card or boa...rd games. * A Break from screen time - hands on, practical games giving your eyes a much needed break from staring at a screen and enhancing your fine motor skills. * Educational - usually too busy having fun playing, to realise how much a card or board game is enhancing your communication, concentration, math, problem-solving and memory skills.
