25.01.2022 Recently one of our Directors, Kasey Fox, wrote a blog about some of the benefits of same sex marriage from a family law perspective. Now that the High Court has given the green light for the postal vote, I have set out below 5 additional benefits of same sex marriage from an estate planning perspective.

21.01.2022 As a Wills and Estates lawyer, I talk to people about what they want to happen after their death every day. However, for many that is where the conversation ends. Like Melanie Greenhalgh, I encourage you to talk to your families about your what you want to happen following your death. To the extent you are comfortable, you should consider discussing your wishes in relation to, for example, your preferred funeral arrangements, your wishes in relation to organ donation, and any important details about your Wills. This kind of open (and likely difficult) conversation may help to limit uncertainty and difficult surprises or shocks at what would already be a devastating time for your family.

In fairness we were called Farrar Gesini &a

18.01.2022 It is great that same-sex couples will soon be able to marry the person that they love. But what are the legal implications of marriage? What can it do to your carefully-curated Will or estate plan? I answer some of those questions in this blog. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me to ask.

15.01.2022 I spoke to the ABC yesterday about an issue arising from the legalisation of same-sex marriage. The question is, essentially, whether same-sex marriages between Australians that took place overseas prior to 9 December 2017 were legally solemnised on 9 December 2017 or on the date of the overseas marriage. In the former case, Wills made between the date of the overseas marriage and 9 December 2017 may be revoked. In the latter case only Wills made before the date of the overse...as marriage would be affected. It is a slightly technical issue but it may have considerable consequences for same-sex couples. Josh Robertson's article discusses the issue very well.
